OK, double post this weekend! I setup different receiver and speaker combos on the weekend and it’s a double play.
Broke out the Harmon Kardon 150+. Got this a few years ago in DeKalb, Il on Facebook Marketplace. It’s my oldest receiver in the collection.
Twin/dual power. Loaded with polystyrene capacitors which are not supposed to go bad. But also has electrolytic caps and some known troublesome transistors.
Great unit after cleanup and relamping but some issues are starting to appear. After all it’s older than me - 54 years old!
All 4 independent quad channels work but channel #3 is significantly degraded and muffled sound wise. This is after a re-bias. So the preamp or driver card needs work on this channel.
When bridged, both channels seem equal but actually that channel #3 on the right is causing issues and can’t keep up with the left.
Bass, treble and all other tone circuit functions working great. AM/FM tuner strong.
A little power starved as dial lights dim with deep bass.
So this will need a complete overhaul soon. I’ve got the parts and might take it on. Performs well tonight but that bridged channel causes the right speaker to be weaker.
