The CV40 carb was used throughout the model line from 1988 until the switch to Fuel Injection in the early 2000's and it can be found on millions of bikes out there today.
They were jetted to the bare minimum for emission reasons, and so anything that improves air flow through the engine, or even weather changes can make them go dead lean and cause all sorts of performance and rideability issues.
But there are simple tricks that anyone can do at home with basic hand tools that can richen things up and restore performance without resorting to actual jet changes.
Here's a quick tour through the CV40 fuel metering circuits and the the hardware store fix to make things right again.
