I have this thing where I try to hold off listening to the songs from a musical unless I have "seen" it first. I know that is a privileged thing to say, not to mention incredibly limiting given how expensive shows are and how rarely I get the opportunity to see them. So I held off listening to the Hamilton OBC recordings even though everybody was saying how much I'll like it, because I knew I wanted to see it someday, somehow (whenever that may be). Last July 3, the whole world along with myself got the opportunity to watch this magnificent work of art from the comfort of our own homes. AND I think, like for many others, it has been life-changing. As a songwriter who's so fascinated by wordplay and rhymes (I'm so taken by the world of rap), Hamilton is just an unfathomable magnum opus. Every couplet and rhyme carefully considered. It's hard enough to write a compelling song, but to have it be historically accurate and amazing at the same time - it's just unimaginable.
I am completely absorbed in the world of Hamilton and I play the soundtrack day in and out. I would actually just say "Hey Google, play... - " and the album would automatically play. Google just knows I guess haha. Helpless is one of those crowd-pleaser songs for me. It could very well be a record you hear on the radio (as Ashanti and Ja Rule have demonstrated in their Hamilton mixtape version of this song). Granted, I am not a rapper so please don't come after me as I tried to attempt Hamilton's ~~bars~~. Covering this just brought me a lot of joy. The style is a mashup of the musical and the mixtape version + I got the instrumental online. I am also hopelessly taken by Wait For It, Satisfied, and My Shot. Maybe someday I'll learn all the words and sing it on karaoke IDK. So yeah. This cover is just to express my admiration for this whole musical. I know that a lot of you are fans and might be protective of the musical therefore could be wary of sub-par covers (maybe? I hope not hehe) but I have this channel and recently found something I truly love and I am not throwing away my shot. Heh. Enjoy!
P.S. I messed up the Angelica bit about “sharing” Hamilton haha it’s supposed to be “if you really loved me”!!
