Georgia has been a center of 2020 election denialism – it is the same state in which Trump unsuccessfully attempted to press officials into “finding” him enough votes.
The Guardian’s Oliver Laughland and Tom Silverstone recently travelled to the state and spoke with the Trump voters who still dispute the result of the last election, despite there being no evidence to support their claims.

Ocearch came to Europe for the first time in the summer, hoping to study the elusive Mediterranean great white – about which little is known. Due to decades of overfishing, pollution and poaching in European waters, these sharks are now critically endangered, with huge consequences lower down the food chain.
Ocearch believe that in showing these sharks are present in the east Atlantic, they can kickstart a collective move towards healthier, abundant seas – they just need to prove they are there. The Guardian joined them on the search

Majdi Fathi is a freelance photojournalist living and working from al-Aqsa hospital, the only functioning facility in central Gaza.
Along with many other journalists based there, he evacuated from northern Gaza and now works in incredibly difficult conditions, with dwindling food, water and electricity, and the constant threat of missile strikes from Israel.
The Committee to Protect Journalists has recorded that at least 128 media workers have been killed so far in the Israel-Gaza war, and in December accused the Israeli military of targeting journalists and their families in the territory. The IDF denies it targets journalists.
Fathi, who has been a photojournalist for more than 16 years, has documented his past year living and reporting from the war, which was triggered by Hamas’s 7 October attack on southern Israel.
Travelling all around the Gaza Strip, he has also been looking after his young family, in a conflict that has claimed the lives of at least 42,010 Palestinian people, according to the local authorities.

But now, for the first time, researchers have captured the profound changes the brain undergoes throughout pregnancy, and after giving birth.
And – despite the slightly self-deprecating use of phrases such as ‘pregnancy brain’, researchers don’t think these changes are a negative thing.
Watch our science reporter Madeleine Finlay explain how and why these changes happen - and listen to our Science Weekly podcast for more, including how far we still have to go when it comes to research into women’s health.

The IDF began stepping up raids in mid 2022, but the violence in areas such as Jenin and Nablus has soared in the wake of Hamas’s rampage through Israel on October 7th.
Cities like Tulkarm have become de facto mini warzones, with residents never sure when the next raid is coming. Innocent bystanders are increasingly being caught in the crossfire and infrastructure is being destroyed in the fighting.
The Guardian’s Bethan McKernan visited Nur Shams refugee camp to see first hand what the effects of this spiral of violence is having on its residents, and meet with those taking up arms in response.

As Labour faces pressure to scrap the two-child benefit cap, we spoke to people in Gateshead, which has some of the highest levels of child poverty in the country. Voters and people running essential community services talk about the challenges of poverty and how disenfranchised people are being encouraged to engage in the election

Known for his humour and poignant commentary, he draws inspiration from daily breaking news, turning headlines about Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer and other politicians into powerful satirical cartoons. In the run-up to the UK's general election, we spent time with Ben in his studio to learn more about what it's been like to cover years of austerity and to discuss the role of satire in political discourse.

Palm oil’s bad reputation is largely down to the harrowing images of habitat loss. Any habitat loss is a tragedy and our responsibility, however, just cutting out palm oil could make the problem worse.
Because if we simply replace palm oil with different oils, most of the alternatives require more land.
We currently use 322 million hectares to grow oil crops, equivalent to the size of India. If we were to get it all from palm oil, we’d only need 77 million hectares (a quarter of what we’re using now). If we got it all from olive oil, we’d need twice as much land as we use now.
Currently Indonesia and Malaysia produce 85% of the world’s palm oil, which was the biggest driver of deforestation in the first decade of this millennium, but it has since become one of the smallest.

Within a ceremonial room inside Kyiv’s presidential compound, Zelenskiy spoke for nearly an hour with a Guardian team, including the editor-in-chief, Katharine Viner. The interview took place during perhaps the toughest time for Ukraine since the early days of the war. Russia is on the offensive in Kharkiv, an advance that follows months of delay in the US Congress over the passing of a major support package, limiting Ukraine’s battlefield capabilities.

The country's prime minister, Narendra Modi, has been in power for more than 10 years, and his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) is seeking a third term.
But critics of Modi and the BJP say his government has become increasingly authoritarian, fracturing the country along religious lines and threatening India’s secular democracy. At the same time, the space for freedom of speech has been shrinking while disinformation and hate speech has exploded on social media.
The Guardian’s video team travelled through India to explore how fake news and censorship might be shaping the outcome of the election.

She wanted a vehicle with freezers built in for frozen food, and also something cheerful that was able to break down stigmas around food poverty. Using a '10 items for £5' model, Michelle sources discount food from supermarket surplus and donations. The Guardian's Christopher Cherry follows Michelle and the van on its rounds, with the service struggling to meet overwhelming demand as the cost of living crisis deepens, and the UK's general election fast approaches.

Ban Khun Samut Chin, a coastal village in Thailand's Samut Prakan province, has been slowly swallowed by the sea over the past few decades. This has led to the relocation of the school and many homes, resulting in a dwindling population. Currently, there are only four students attending the school, often leaving just one student in each classroom. The village has experienced severe coastal erosion, causing 1.1km to 2km of shoreline to disappear since the mid-1950s.

It is one of three genocide cases being considered by the UN's world court, but since the genocide convention was approved in 1948, only three instances have been legally recognised as genocide. Josh Toussaint-Strauss looks back on these historical cases to find out why the crime is so much harder to prove than other atrocities, and what bearing this has on South Africa's case against Israel and future cases.
What is the genocide convention and how might it apply to the UK and Israel? ► theguardian.com/law/2024/apr/03/what-is-the-genocide-convention-and-how-might-it-apply-to-the-uk-and-israel

With journalists tortured in the street for their reporting, many of the paper's staff were forced to flee. Two years on, editor-in-chief Zaki Daryabi continues to fight for the Etilaat Roz's future and coordinates his team across the US, Europe and Afghanistan. In this unique video diary, journalist Abbas Rezaie follows the tenacious correspondents as they continue to report the news. We witness a turning point in Afghanistan’s history, and reflect on what it is to be a displaced journalist.
