Kirbys Epic Yarn - Big Bean Vine (Topaz Video Enhance AI) Handy863 2023-06-01 | Believe it or not, this video was recorded 10 YEARS AGO! (to the date)For most of that time it has been left unused on an old hard drive. However, during another gap in my editing commitments, I got curious to see how footage from my old Hauppauge HD PVR would turn out if I put it through Topaz Video Enhance AI. So I did a little digging and found this.The recording itself is of me and Robyn playing through our favourite level in Kirby's Epic Yarn. I can't remember why I recorded this. There were a lot of failed/corrupted recordings taken just before (the old HD PVR did that a lot), which all together is the only footage I have of this game.In terms of what I did for the video itself, compared to my Mario Kart 8 video it really isn't much. I took the original HD PVR video, upscaled it using the Gaia Computer Graphics preset, and then edited it in Vegas. As the footage was only in 480p, it took a lot less time to reprocessing.

This happened to come at a reasonably convenient time, as I had just found Vegas’ Colour Match plugin while editing for my friend. I have applied the plugin to this footage, and colour matched it to a Waluigi Stadium screenshot from a Mindscarp video (who I personally think still has some of the nicest looking videos for this game). The change in colour is subtle, but I think it adds just that little bit more to the video. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 4K (Topaz Video Enhance AI) Handy863 2023-04-22 | First thing I must say before anything else is that this video is definitely much better watched on a larger screen! So if you have any sort of smart TV with YouTube on it, go and watch this video on that!So yeah, this is a little project I have been working on over the last week. For those who don't know, Topaz Video Enhance is what I have been playing around with with my "Quality Test" videos. But as a gap in my other commitments opened up over Easter, I had a chance to really see what I could do with this software.This footage was of a quick casual session with the Leannehef community (from the 16th March 2023), recorded with my Avermedia LGX GC550 at 1080p60 60Mbps. I upscaled the footage to 4K in Enhance AI, using the Gaia Computer Graphics model, output as MOV ProRes 422 HQ (which I wouldn't recommend because the video ended up being over 258GB in size!!). Then I put that video back through, this time using Proteus Fine Tune the polish it off.Out of all the videos I have done with Enhance AI so far, this is definitely the best one yet! To me both the game's quality and colours just pop SO much more. Though admittedly I might be a little biased as this has taken me a while to make, and only until recently I had mostly been playing this game in 720p. I also think it is a lot easier to make the Switch look better then the Wii, simply because it is newer.Furthermore, I don't think this is going to be something I'll be doing with every video from now on. But I definitely have some potential future projects in mind that would benefit from this! So keep an eye out for those. :)

But not nearly to the same capacity I was before.Got this a little while ago now, and was in two minds on if I should upload it or not as I drove this while practicing on MKW-SP. For argument sake, I won't include this in my sum of best (though if I did I'd now have 1:18.145). Ghost is 1:18:088 by Tyler, which has a 26.126 Lap 1.European Tops finally all went down to sub .3 towards the end of last month. Admittedly, that and some discussions about the track I've had with Luis is what inspired me to upload this lap. I still want to get sub .3 myself. But like I said last time, it is mostly in time's hands now.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Testing Out DLC Tracks #4 (Quality Test) Handy863 2023-03-13 | So, another MK8DX DLC drop. Once again, another update that I feel is better than the last! Whether it's because the quality of the DLCs has actually been improving, or that I simply haven't been as invested in looking into the DLCs beforehand. But the updates have been getting more enjoyable for me! Definitely wasn't a let down regarding colour, and this honestly felt somewhat nostalgic too! Made me think back to the release of the DLCs in the original MK8, as well as when CTGP updates were actually good. Trying out these tracks at the time also helped me get over a stress headache. So that's an added bonus for me too!I ended up writing too much on the individual tracks for YouTube's description, and can't be bothered to condense them. Looking back, I think this actually made for a very enjoyable session! and I really wish I was able to record the voice call, there would've been so many highlights! Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Testing Out DLC Tracks #3 Handy863 2022-12-15 | So far, this is probably my favourite of the DLC updates! Though this time around, I haven't been time trialling anything.Tour London Loop 0:00Starting off with the track based in my capital city! I appreciate this isn't too influenced by stereotypes. Can definitely see more of a resemblance in the design similar to my experiences in London. So I like that! But like the rest of the city tour tracks, it still doesn't work perfectly with the game, or is anywhere near the same standard as the original MK8 tracks. One turn near the beginning keeps throwing me off, as it feels like it’s going to go on further than it actually does. I also personally don't like the sky (It's a little too bright for London). GBA Boo Lake 3:18 Like with all GBA tracks at this point, I was once again sceptical the track would end up being redone beyond recognition. You'd be lying if you said that didn't happen a bit. But just like GBA Snow Land, it was surprisingly fun to drive! Contrary to what the CTGP version led me to believe, the underwater aesthetic actually works pretty well. Dare I say it makes more sense than just being suspended over a void, like SNES Ghost Valley 2 in MKWii. 3DS Alpine Pass 5:25 This is probably my least favourite track in this DLC release. By no means do I not like it. But to me, this was the MK7 track! That version had a very specific design, texturing, and unique races. It would always be the first track that came to mind whenever someone mentioned MK7. This remake just doesn't replicate or echo any of that in the slightest. Considering this is a 1080p game, the texturing here is honestly appalling! This is also the first of many tracks where I'll complain once again about the scaling, being too big in some places. Wii Maple Treeway 8:38 Maple Treeway is my favourite MKWii track by concept, but it was one of the worst made and tested in the game. It broke my heart having all the glitches, and players complaining about how annoying it was to drive. The fact that was never really changed in MK7 makes things even worse. So it feels like Treeway would have a fighting chance in MK8! This version is a massive improvement over Wii & 7's versions. Having no glitches (so far 🤞), much less jank shit, nice colours/textures, and a proper soundtrack remake (as opposed to the copy and paste for Mushroom Gorge). That being said, it still isn't perfect. Treeway also sadly falls victim to poor scaling, and I can't deny the track from the wiggler section up until the second glider feels pretty awkward. The return of the half pipe section as the 3rd item set makes absolutely no sense. Like Alpine Pass, I do feel Treeway is let down by being a port from Tour, rather than a full remake optimised for the game. All in all, I am VERY happy Treeway is back! But I still don't think it has been taken to its true potential. Tour Berlin Byways 12:09 Unlike London Loop, I can't really vouch for this track compared to the real Berlin. I guess with less of a personal connection to the places irl, it's harder to see these city tour tracks in a more positive light. Unsurprisingly, the track feels very odd or somewhat out of place in this game. It's certainly an interesting design choice to have falling Whomps as part of the Berlin Wall. The soundtrack is actually more reminiscent of what I thought we'd be getting for London Loop. DS Peach Gardens 15:07 I feel like this and 3DS Rainbow Road were a little too hyped up. By no means do I not like this track, but to me, it has suffered a similar fate as Alpine Pass. The MKWii version of this track has a design and vibe that heavily reminisces somewhere near me irl, as well as arguably being one of the better scaled DS tracks in Wii. Again, this remake just isn't the same in the slightest, and that's pretty disappointing. A lot of sections feel way too big now, particularly at the end. Though I will say it makes a little sense when going in reverse on lap 3. I do feel like the track was somewhat empty to the left in the past, so it's nice they added in the extra route. It opens it up a little more. Merry Mountain 18:19 The Polar Express! This is the first thing that came to mind when I first saw this track. I wonder if Robyn will think the same thing? (the Polar Express is her favourite Christmas film). Driving-wise, this track isn't overly interesting (though is still more so then the tour city tracks). The half-pipe and down hill sections feels a little lacklustre and irritating. The soundtrack for this track does sound Christmassy, but also very Super Mario Galaxy like as well. 3DS Rainbow Road 21:15When I imagine a Rainbow Road for this game, this is much more like it! Every Rainbow Road in the game so far (especially MK8's original), has felt more artificial, and less magical. So I am very happy this design is here! That being said, once again this track also falls victim to poor scaling, and I'd actually say this is probably the worst one for it in this update.

Don't know whether it is because they were made for a mobile app, or that the track's size and style just seems less thought out. New York Minute is no exception. As a matter of fact, I'd say it's the worst. To me it just feels like such a lacklustre track, and the only reason it's here is because New York track. On top of that, the music for whatever reason just really irritates me! I guess if there was one good thing I'd say about the track, is that the wet road texture is pretty nice? But all in all, I don't care for this track.SNES Mario Circuit 3: 2:58youtu.be/N3WGTtke0jsN64 Kalimari Desert: 5:41Kalimari Desert was probably the track I was least interested in, and yet the one that pleasantly surprised me the most! This track works a lot better in this game than I expected. The visuals and music have been reworked almost perfectly! My only gripe is the forced path switching per lap. Though it is a very creative approach, and I'm happy the railway is part of the track route. I think leaving it to the player to choose which path to take, would make things more interesting. Especially in time trials!DS Waluigi Pinball: 8:24I don't really care for this track that much, but that is more of a general thing as opposed to just this DLC. It's become less and less interesting or appealing to me with time. It's just annoying! I also feel the track is pretty overrated, which doesn't help. That being said, it does look nice in this game. Another great example of Nintendo revamping a retro track well, regardless of how I feel. Tour Sydney Sprint: 12:23Out of all the Tour tracks to have come to Deluxe so far, I think this is one of the better ones so far. Mostly because of the music! Considering how underwhelming most of the music in the wave had been up until this point, it completely caught me off guard. I thought it was instantly one of my favourite soundtracks in the game! But upon listening to the music in my own time, I was pretty disappointed to find how lacking in variation of structure there is. It makes the song sound like it's looping too quickly (even though I am sure there are some slight nuances). Other than that and some appealing aesthetic stuff, that track isn't overly striking to me.GBA Snow Land: 15:54This was another track I was highly anticipating, despite only ever playing it as a custom track previously. Unlike MC3 though, I was sceptical the track would end up like Cheese Land and Ribbon Road. It would be ignorant to say it didn't happen, and I've been struggling to recognise the track in comparison to the original. But at the same time I can't truly say I don't like it, because this version of the track is both fun to drive and aesthetically pleasing in its own way. Feels very reminiscent of the Mario Kart Wii custom track, Stargaze Summit (youtu.be/hYQHlM5Zm7E). Which I am not against by any means!Wii Mushroom Gorge: 19:09If there is any track that got more hype then Waluigi Pinball, it's Gorge! I have to say, this is probably the best Wii recreation in Mario Kart 8 so far (and yes, that includes the pre-Switch tracks)! The scaling for this track is great, almost feels like I am playing on Wii. Sort of makes me dislike MC3 even more, by comparison. That being said, it isn't perfect. Still not 100% on the new textures, like the grass or rock. The original track also had a more misty early morning sort of look to it, which I'd definitely prefer. But the most disappointing aspect of the whole update has to be the music. Don't get me wrong, Gorge's soundtrack is a bop! But like MC3, I was expecting a Mario Kart band version. Although MC3 at least had some new music made, I'm fairly certain Gorge's music was literally just copy and pasted over from Wii. Very disappointing. Sky-High Sundae: 22:22I know I'm not the first to think this, and I know I won't be the last either… Sky-High Sundae feels like a very Fall Guys inspired track. I haven't even played the game, and I think that. It's not just visually, the music feels even more reminiscent of Fall Guys. Granted, I've only ever heard Fall Guys music on Twitch streams and such, but I am pretty confident there are a lot of stylistic and melodic similarities. For a sweet food themed track, this actually doesn't make me feel almost sick looking at it. Which is where Ice-cream Sweetland completely failed for me after a while. I also applaud the fact this track makes use of antigravity! I heavily criticised Wave 1 for completely neglecting this feature. Although one track with it isn't that much better, it's still better than nothing. In my eyes, it is what really helps make the track interesting!

After seeing how well it had been recreated as a Mario Kart 8 custom track, and how nintendo have uped the visuals and music of retro tracks in the past. I was really curious to see how MC3 can be improved upon when brought to this game. I was genuinely looking forward to trying it out and tting it, as I believed it would be a huge refreshing break from the wii version, if not a replacement.Unfortunately, I don't think I could've been any more wrong or let down..."Improved upon" are the absolute last words I would use to describe this. The track is scaled WAY too big, and the evidence that nintendo were going to do this was staring me right in the face from donut plains and rainbow road. I can't believe I didn't see that coming! Both those tracks were heavily overhauled with regards to their textures and background details. Donut plains in particular is one of my favourite tracks for that in the entire game. By comparison, I don't think any less could've possibly been done for MC3. A few brick blocks and spectators, and that's it!?!? Then there is the music... THE MUSIC... If there is anything more underwhelming then the scaling or visuals of the track, it is this. No big Mario Kart band cover like I was hoping for, might as well have just been copy and pasted from Wii or 7. 😔That being said, I still felt the need to give the track a good go. It's what I had said I would do if the track were to come back, and I felt like some of my perspective may just be me being adamant and too used to Mario Kart wii. If you can get over the scaling (or that sort of thing doesn't even bother you in the first place) then the track is alright to drive. Not good, but not really bad either. Watching the Deluxe WRs for the track is relatively satisfying as well. Like Toad Circuit, I started tackling MC3 using 10th on the leaderboards at the time, for reference. For me (just over an hour after the tracks were released), that was 1:33.867 by Cante. Now, I play this game by no means near as well as Mario Kart Wii. But I still like to think I can roughly pick up some routes and strats, and replicate them decently with enough time. This PB is the closest I could get to Cante's 867 in just under a week, and I am honestly not that proud of that.Aside from the mental and emotional pain caused by my initial perspective, I found it actually physically hurt my hands to play compared to Wii. This is mostly thanks to me, and how vigorously I naturally moved the analogue stick. But even so, I was not expecting it to be as substantial as it was. Felt about as straining as Royal Raceway was back on Wii U, and that's not forgetting that that is bunny hop central! Overall, I really don’t like this track. But we can't ignore the fact I've spent an unfathomable amount of time on the Wii version, and did get my hopes up for this a lot more then I ever should have. A full recording of me playing all of the new DLCs will be uploaded soon, with the rest of my opinions written up in the description. But to put it briefly, I am definitely not this harsh on the rest of the DLCs, and prefer this wave to wave 1 over all. 😁

But I'd very happily take a lap 1 improvement any day!Ghost is 1:18.308 by Luke. Sum of best (26.146, 26.023, 26.001) now gives 1:18.170. I believe this split is pretty close to Tyler's Lap 1 in his former 107 WR? Which is just absolutely ridiculous to me!Still playing for the European Tops, and sub .3 in the long run (which Luis thinks is going to be my next PB). Always so weird how things like this happen in such mediocre sessions.Ghost is 1:18.308 by Luke. Ironically, my best lap 2 and 3 split are both the same now. So my sum of best (26.155, 26.023, 26.023) now gives 1:18.201.Still very much playing for the European Tops, but I'll be more then happy with any PB over the 366 (for as long as it's cleaner).
