Katavi National Park | Amazing Wildlife Safari at Chada Katavi Camp | Tanzania 2022 | 4K-Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2023-08-11 | Lion pride with cubs, lions mating, big herds of elephants, giraffes, hippos in big numbers, crocodiles and plentiful birdlife. The Katavi National Park is a well-kept secret if you are looking for a remote and non-mainstream park that only reveals its beauty to the few visitors. The park spans a huge area between the lake Katavi and lake Chada. Several rivers are flowing through the park with the Ikuu river being the most prominent. The rivers and lakes are home to huge numbers of Hippos for which the park is famous. Crocodiles are omnipresent in the river as well as waterbirds such as goliath heron, hadada ibis, yellow-billed stork, hamerkop, egyptian goose and great white pelican. One day we were extremely lucky and spotted a rare black-crowned night heron resting on a tree. Impala, defassa waterbuck, bushbuck, plains zebra, masai giraffe and cape buffalo are the main herbivores of the park.Katavi is famous for its hippo pools in which huge numbers of hippos are resting during the day. The concentration of hippos depend greatly on the water level of the lakes and rivers. We had around 50 hippos crammed in a small pool. Thankfully you can watch the scene without the smell.One morning the bridge over the Ikuu river was blocked by mating lions. We had the unique chance to observe the couple for a long time. And we were even more lucky later when we found the five playful lion cubs of the pride in the evening. Another highlight of the trip was a big herd of elephant walking on the road when we were heading to the Katisunga Plains in the west. We stopped the car and let them approach us peacefully and quitely. The entire herd passed our car at just a few meter distance. Wai Island is famous for its beautiful top reefs and the P-47 Thunderbolt plane wreck. Along the coast of Batanta we found many dive sites with amazing critters sightings such as nudibranch, marine fatworms, shrimps, pipe fishs and pigmy seahorse. Ruaha National Park | Amazing Wildlife Safari at Kigelia Ruaha Camp | Tanzania 2022 | 4K-Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2023-05-18 | Wildlife and birds are abundant in the wonderful landscape of the Ruaha National Park. A big lion pride with cubs on the move passed right next to our car, leopards were hiding in the tree tops and black-backed jackals were looking for the next meal. In the dried-out river beds, elephants were digging for fresh water and nile crocodiles and hippopotamus retreated to the last remaining water pools. Occasionally impalas came down to the river to drink and water birds were looking for the last remaining fishs. A big herd of cape buffalo wandered across the plain and enjoyed a mud bath. The grass plains are home to the greater kudu, common eland, Grant's gazelle, impala, oribi, dik-dik, the plains zebra and Masai giraffe. Diving in Triton Bay | The Secret Underwater Paradise | West Papua Indonesia 2022 | 4K-Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2023-03-18 | From giant whale sharks to the tiniest nudibranchs, from colorful reef fishs to big swarms of silvery fusiliers, from painted softcoral reefs to mystical forest of black corals, the Triton Bay fulfills every divers dream! The Triton Bay is located south-east of Raja Ampat and is teemed with marine life and every dive offers new discoveries. We found pigmy seahorse on nearly every dive and dozends of different species of nudibranchs, marine flatworms, headshields and other sea slugs. We encountered big swarms of fusiliers and humpback snappers and occasionally a napoleon wrasse or mobula ray swam by. On many occasions we had wobbegong sharks laying under rocks or in small caves. During sunset we had the unique opportunity to watch the recently discovered Nursalim flasherwrasse performing their display and while night diving we came accross the amazing Triton epaulette shark (walking shark).One morning we went for the trip to the fishing plattforms around Kaimana to find the largest fish in the ocean, the whale shark. We were lucky to dive with one of the biggest specimen we ever encountered and during the next two hours we had the experience of our lifetime while watching this giant of the sea.We visited the unique Triton Bay Divers resort and had a wonderful stay over Christmas and New Year 2022/23. Hiking in Switzerland | Pic Chaussy via Lac Lioson | Swiss Alps Canton Vaud | 2022 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2022-12-20 | Breathtaking hike to the summit of Pic Chaussy with a majestic view on the famous Les Diablerets massif. We started our hike in the village Les Mosses at the Lioson d'en Bas rest area. The path immediately started to climb up to lake Lioson. After a while we reached lake Lioson and the level path along the lake allowed us to relax a bit. But soon the trail started to climb even steeper along the La Chenau mountain ridge. At the La Chenau junction we met with an alternative path coming up from the valley. Now the path climbs even steeper towards the summit of Pic Chaussy. The landscape becomes more and more mountainous. After crossing a huge scree field we reached the ridge leading to the summit. One last effort was necessary to reach the peak of Pic Chaussy. From the summit we had a breathtaking view over the Alps, including Mont Blanc, the hightest mountain of them all. We had a short break at the summit and then started our descent back to lake Lioson an down into the valley to Lioson d'en Bas rest area, were our hike ended.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Lioson d'en Bas rest area (1575m) and follows the path up to lake Lioson (1848m) and further to La Chenau (2079m). We then continue upwards to our target of this hike, Pic Chaussy (2351m). Hiking in Switzerland | Around Mont Gond from Haute-Nendaz to Siviez | Canton Valais | 2022 (4K) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2022-11-10 | Late autumn hike hike from Haute-Nendaz to Siviez around Mont Gond on the hiking trail 223. We parked our car in Siviez and drove with our bikes to Haute-Nendaz. There we took the gondola up to Tracouet were we started our hike. In the beginning the path descended through a beautiful yellow larch forest to the alp Balavaux. From there the trail gently climbed as we continued our way all along the mountain side of Mont Gond. Suddenly the path started to climb steeply and it took us a lot of effort to follow the trail all the way up to Les Tsans Ferret and further to Dents Rousses. Once we reaced the highest point we had a magnificent view on the other side of the valley. Pointe de Champ Ferret, Mont Gelé, Bec des Etagnes, Le Métallier and Mont Fort were in plain sight. We continued our descent to Tortin and further to Siviez were our hike ended.Tour itinerary We take the gondola from Haute-Nendanz to Tracouet. There we start our hike at the Tracouet mountain station (2196m) and we follow the path down to alp Balavaux (2038m). The path climbs to Les Tsans Feret (2405m) and leads us to the highest point just below the Dents Rousses (2575m). Hiking in Switzerland | Bisse de Tsittoret via Cry dEr | Crans-Montana Canton Valais | 2022 (4K) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2022-10-21 | Breathtaking hike on the panoramic trail high above Crans-Montana and the Rhone valley in the canton valais. During the entire hike we had a magnificent view on the highest peaks of the Swiss mountains, including the famous Matterhorn. In the well-known village of Crans-Montana we took the gondola from Montana to Arnouva and the chairlift to the Cry d'Er mountain station. There we started our hike and followed the panoramic trail to the Cabane des Violettes. From the plattfrom of the cabane we enjoyed the breathtaking panorama. We continued our hike towards Mont Bonvin. The terrain got more demanding as we continued to climb up the mountain flank of the Tubang mountain. At one point we had to cross a ravine with a very steep bank. Soon we reached the Petit Mont Bonvin rest area and continued our hike alongside the Mont Bonvin mountain towards the canyon of the Tièche stream. At one point the stream turns into a fantastic waterfall over a high cliff. We followed the Tièche stream downwards and soon reached the point where an ancient irrigation channel diverts from the river: the Bisse de Tsittoret. We continued our hike along the Bisse de Tsittoret through magnificent yellow and golden larch forests. After a very relaxing hike alongside the Bisse de Tsittoret we reached the houses of Colombire where we took the bus back to Crans-Montana.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Cry d'Er mountain station (2255m) and follows the panoramic high mountain trail to the Cabane des Violettes (2209m) and further to Petit Mont Bonvin Rest Area (2386m). We then continue towards the canyon of the Tièche stream and the waterfall (2150m) and further to beginning of the Bisse de Tsittoret (1920m). The Great Migration of the Wildebeest | Serengeti Mara River Post | Tanzania 2022 | 4K-Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2022-09-14 | One of the biggest animal migration on earth: The great migration of wildebeest and zebras in Serengeti and Masai Mara. Every year, around 1.7 million wildebeest and 260'000 zebra head north from the southern Serengeti via Grumeti to the northern Serengeti where they have to cross the Mara river to continue their journey into the Masai Mara in Kenya. The crossing of so many wildebeest over the Mara river is the most spectacular animal sighting we have ever experienced in our life. The wildebeests migrate in loose herds to the Mara River. Suddenly huge groups of thousands of animals are forming and look for a save spot to cross the river. It is not uncommon that a crossing is aborted at the very last moment and the entire herd withdraws from the river and disappears in the bush. But once the leading animal decides to cross the river, hundreds of wildebeests will jump down the river bank and into the water to reach the other side.That is the moment that predators are waiting for. Suddenly a crocodile appears out of nowhere and attacks the nearest wildebeest, grabbing its leg and pulling it out of the herd. There is no escape from the crocodiles teeths and slowly it is pulled into deeper water where more and more crocodiles are joining the scene. With a mighty final snap the unfortunate wildebeest is pulled underwater, never to be seen again. The Serengeti is also home to many other species of antelopes, such as Impala, Eland, Hartebeest, Klipspringer, Oribi, Reedbuck, Topi and Waterbuck. Lion, Leopard and Hyena are the main predators that we encountered and plenty of birds can be spotted along the river and in the bush. Hiking in Switzerland | Augstmatthorn via Alp Horet | Swiss Alps Canton Bern | 2020 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2022-03-06 | Breathtaking ridge hike to the Augstmatthorn with a majestic view on the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau massif. We started our hike at the Lombachalp rest area. After a short way on the road the path started to climb to the alp Horet and further up to the Harder ridge. Once we reached the Harder ridge we had the famous mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in plain sight. We continued on the ridge until we reached the bases of the Suggiture. A intermediate peak on the way to the Augstmatthorn. After a steep and demanding ascent we arrived on top of the Suggiture. The view was absolutely stunning on the Bernese alps in the south and lake Brienz underneath. We then continued our hike on the very narrow mountain ridge trail with all the major peaks of the Bernese alps in plain sight. Soon we reached the summit of the Augstmatthorn, the goal of our hike. From there we followed the very steep trail back down into the valley until we came back to Lombachalp. were our hike ended.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Lombachalp rest area (1559m) and follows the path up to Alp Horet (1734m) and further to Harder ridge. We then continue on the Harder ridge trail to Suggiture (2085m) and all the way to Augstmatthorn (2137m). Hiking in Switzerland | Fafleralp to Anensee | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2021 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2022-01-22 | Majestic hike through yellow larch forests in the Lötschental from Faflerfalp to Anensee. We started our hike at the Fafleralp rest area. The path immediately started to climb up to the small village of Guggistafel. We continued to the Guggisee, the first of three lakes of this hike. The sun had not yet risen over the mountain range and the lake was still in the shadow. But all the brightly illuminated mountain peaks reflected beautifully in the water. As we walked further we crossed the Anen river and from there we climbed up to the Anenhut and finally to the Anensee, the second lake of this hike. After a exhausting ascent we reached the Anenhut (which is closed at this time of the year) and we sat outside for a picknick. Soon we reached to the highest and furthes point of this hike, the Anensee. At the end of October, the lake was completely frozen. We then made our descent down to the valley. After reaching the bridge over the Lonza river we entered a beautiful larch forests. All the larchs were glowing in bright yellow and orange colours. We walked further until we reached the Grundsee, the final lake of this hike. From there it was only a short walk back to the Fafleralp rest area were our hike ended.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Fafleralp rest area (1766m) and followed the path up to Guggistafel (1920m). From there we continued to Guggisee (2007m) and all the way up to the Anenhut (2355m). After a short break we reached the furthers and highest point of our hike at the Anensee (2367m). We descended all the way down to the bridge over the river Lonza (1977m) and followed the river until we reach the Grundsee (1842m). Birding and Wildlife Safari at Lake Kariba | Musango Island Safari Camp | Zimbabwe 2021 | 4K-Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-12-04 | Amazing birding and wildlife encounter at Lake Kariba including the mighty African fish eagle. Driving with the pontoon through the narrow channels full of hippos, crocodiles, elephants and a huge variety of different species of birds. The pontoon is the perfect way to explore the shallow channles along the border of Lake Kariba. Once we reached the end of the channels we changed over to the Land Rover and continued our safari on land with a wonderful game drive. Amazing Wildlife Safari in Mana Pools | Kavinga Safari Camp | Zimbabwe 2021 | 4K Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-10-28 | Playful lion cubs, roaring elefants, herd of cape buffalos, lion pride and leopard. Kavinga private concession on the border to Mana Pools National Park offers an amazing variety of wildlife and birds. Two dried out riverbeds and a mountain range form the boundary of that beautiful park. In the riverbed we had amazing encounters of big herd of cape buffalos, a lion pride getting ready for the hunt during the night, an elephant charging at our vehicle and we spotted a huge variety of water birds. The forest in between the rivers are home to leopards, baboons, greater kudus and the scarlet-chested sunbird. Towards the mountains is a high plateau with mighty baobab trees and beautiful dry savanna birds.The highlight of Kavinga is the hide located directly at the waterhole and it offers a specatular view on all the animals coming to the water. Big herds of elephants are drinking and mudding as well as impalas, warthog and baboons. Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe offers a huge variety of activities with fascinating wildlife encounters. We hiked to the denning wild dogs watching them returning from the hunt and feeding their puppies. We were tracking down lions on foot, we walked to pools to see crocodiles up close. We encountered a pride of lions lying on the road at night. Birdlife was plentiful and we saw a huge variety of different species of birds throughout the park. Canoeing on the Zambezi river was a truly amazing experience with two elephants standing right in front of us in the water. Amazing Birding at Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park | Kenya 2021 | 4K-Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-08-13 | Mighty african fish eagle catching fish out of the water, breeding colony of cormorant nesting on top of tree, pied and giant kingfisher scour the lake for fish. Together with our guide we went on an amazing boat safari on lake Naivasha and spotted many water birds along the shore and in the trees. We came accross many African fish eagles sitting on the branches and as soon as they spot an easy catch they take off and grab the fish out of the water. We found many water birds along the flooded shore and in the woods. Hippos and waterbucks can also be seen. An upcoming thunderstorm added some suspense to the end of our trip, but we managed to get back just in time before hell broke loose.As you notice from the video, the entire shore is flooded due to a constantly rising water level of the lake since 2018. Heavy rainfall have contributed to the situation but may not be the final answer to the phenomena. This led to entire communities being forced to move to higher ground and a lot of infrastructure and buildings were lost to the rising water. After lake Naivasha we continued to Hells Gate National Park for our last birding and wildlife safari of our trip to Kenya. Hells Gate National Park offers staggering rock formations all along the way including Fischer's Tower, a vulcanic pinnacle that is famous among climbers. Plentiful birdlife can be found throughout the park including the Agur buzzard, black kite, Rüppell's vulture nesting in the cliffs and the magnificent scarlet-chested sunbird.Welcome to our birding and wildlife safari to lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park in Kenya in January 2021. Amazing Wildlife Safari in Ol Pejeta Conservancy | Kenya 2020 | 4K Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-06-27 | Stunning encounters with the predators in Ol Pejeta conservancy: Lion, cheetah, black-backed jackal and spotted hyena scour the park for their prey. Eland, impala, Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, Waterbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest and plains zebra are commonly found on the plain. We were lucky to see twice a steenbuck in the open field. Plenty of dry savanna birds can be found in the park and the swamps also attract waterbirds. The highlight of the park is the abundancy of black and white rhinoceros. In the Ol Pejeta visitor center we had a chance for a close encounter with “Baraka the black rhino”. Baraka is an old and unfortunately blind rhino and the park rangers take good care of it.During one of our game drives we came across two lioness on the hunt. After following them for a while they attacked a group of warthogs but were unable to capture one and disappeared in the bush. Once we tracked them down we found that an unfortunate warthog must have runned right into them and got killed on the spot.The next morning we saw something strange happening in the middle of the plain. We carefully approached the scene and found about 30 spotted hyenas taking down three newborn Eland-antelopes. Amazing Hike to Ol Donyo Lesatima | Aberdare National Park | Kenya 2020 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-06-04 | The Aberdare mountains are an isolated volcanic range that forms the easternmost wall of the Great Rift Valley, to the east of the high Kinangop/Laikipia plateau. They are around 100 km long from north to south. Ol Donyo Lesatima (4001 m) is the third highest summit of Kenya. The Aberdares offer a truly outstanding landscape. At higher altitude the area is covered with head-high bushes, followed by marsh plains and finally rocky slopes, where each biome has its distinct flora. Staggering rock formations such as the famous Dragon's teeth are characteristic for the Aberdare mountains.Tour itineryThe evening before the hike we met with a representative of Alpine Adventures Safaris to prepare for the tour. An extensive briefing gave as all the important information for the hike.Next morning were picked up at 6:30 at the Aberdare Country Club by our excellent guide Richard and our driver. From there we drove the Aberdare National Park Rhino Gate at 2560m where we teamed up with our ranger for the hike. Together we drove by car to our starting point at 3452m. After havingh our packed breakfast we were ready for an exciting adventure. Exactly at 09:00 we started our hike and followed the path uphill throuh head-high bushes and soon after we had a maginificent outlook over the surrounding landscape with amazing rock formation. After passing the bushes we entered the marsh plain. The plain is covered in long, bushy grass and the path was muddy and wet. We walked carefully and slowly, also because of the thin air at this high altitude. Shortly after the midpoint of the hike we passed throuth the middle of a stunning rock formation. The point-like peaks of the cliffs surrounding us looked absolutely surreal. We reached the exit at 12:00 where we made our lunch break. From there we could already see the next highlight in front of us: the famous Dragon's teeth rocks. After lunch we hiked along this staggering rock formation where the rocks look like a row full of sharp pointy teeths. From there on we climbed higher and higher above the amazing landscape and towards the summit of the Aberdare mountain range: Ol Donyo Lesatima. The air got thinner and we started to suffer from altitude sickness started but we continued and finally reached the top of Mount Satima at 14:00. Hiking in Switzerland | Le Grammont to Alamont | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-05-20 | Breathtaking and challenging ridge hike from the summit of Le Grammont to mount Alamont with a magnificent outlook over lake Geneva, the Rhone valley and the Swiss Alps. Please note that there is no official trail connecting the two mountain peaks. We simply hiked accross country following the very challenging mountain ridge. We started our hike at Col de Taney and hiked along the lake Taney to the village. From there the steep trail to the summit of Le Grammont begins. We followed the path through the forest and up to the alp Les Crosses. All along we had a fantastic view on the twin peaks of Les Jumelles. Soon we reached the alpine pass Col des Crosses and the alp En Voyis. From there we took the path to the ridge of Le Grammont. The path is very steep and follows along a vertical drop-off. On the way up we came to an incredible viewpoint. Finally we arrived at the peak of Le Grammont with its amazing 360° panoramic outlook. After a short rest we started the tremendously challenging hike over the ridge to mount Alamont. The ridge is incredibly steep on one side and a mere vertical cliff on the other side. After some terrifying passages we reached the base of mount Alamont were we rejoind the official hiking trail. We continued up and arrived the first peak of Alamont with a breathtaking view on Le Grammont and the ridge that we just passed. Finally we climbed up to the highest point of mount Alamont and had a last outlook on the lake, the valley and the alps. Soon after we had to start our descent back to Col de Taney.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at Col de Taney (1440m) and we walk along the lake Taney to the village of Taney (1415m). There the path to Le Grammont diverts and we hike upwards to the alp Les Crosses (1737m) and Col des Crosses (1971m). At the alp En Voyis (2001m) the ridge trail to Le Grammont starts. Following the ridge we reach the summit of Le Grammont (2172m). There the challenging mountain ridge trail to mount Alamont begins. After a breathtaking hike we arrive at mount Alamont (1900m). From there we head back down to Col de Taney (1440m). Hiking in Switzerland | La Para via Lac Retaud | Swiss Alps Canton Vaud | 2020 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-05-14 | Breathtaking hike to the summit of La Para with a magnificent outlook over the Les Diablerets massif and the Swiss Alps and even further to the Mont Blanc. We started our hike at Lac Retaud rest area near Ormont Dessous and Les Diablerets. Early morning we had an amazing reflection of the entire Les Diablerets mountain massif in the water of Lac Retaud. We then followed the mountain trail along the base of mount La Palette until we reached the alp Buvette de la Marnèche. After a short walk on the road we reached the alp Isenau. Soon after the trail to La Para diverts from the road and traverses a very steep mountain flank before we reached the alp Arpille. We left the alpine cabin behind and continued to climb upwards to the summit of La Para. On the way we had to cross several snowfields until we reached the ridge to the summit. After this final ascent we finally stood on the top of mount La Para. The view was truly breathtaking in all directions. From the Jura mountain range in the west to the foothills of the Alps to the north and east and the Les Diablerets massif and Mont Blanc, the highest mountain of the Alps, in the south. Tour itinerary Our hike starts at Lac Retaud rest area (1678m) and after a short walk we reach Lac Retaud (1685m). Hiking in Switzerland | Gemmenalphorn via Niederhorn with Ibex | Swiss Alps Canton Bern | 2020 (4K) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-04-26 | Breathtaking hike with many Ibex sightings. We started our hike at Chüematte rest area near Beatenberg/Waldegg and followed the mountain trail to the Niederhorn. On the way we saw two Chamois and at the Niederhorn a group of Ibex. From there we continued to Burgfeldstand where we had our second close encounter of Ibex. From Burgfeldstand we continued our hike to the Gemmenalphorn. Just before the final ascent we had a stunning encounter with an impressiv male Ibex with big horns. Finally we ascended to the Gemmenalphorn, the destination of our hike. Throughout the entire hike we had a fantastic view on the famous mountain formation of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and other peaks of the Bernese Alps.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Chüematte rest area (1691m). We follow the path uphill to Oberberg (1861m) and Oberburgfeld (1862m) and arrived at the Niederhorn (1964m). Amazing Safari in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy | Kenya 2020 | 4K-Video Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2021-03-14 | Stunning encounters with the endangered Grévy’s zebras and black and white rhinos. All the big five of Africa are present in Lewa: Elephant, cape buffalo, lion, leopard and black rhino. Also the special northern five species live in the conservancy: Grévy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. Waterholes are a great place to observe large groups of elephants and zebras. The big plains are the hunting ground for cheetahs. Lion, cheetah, bat-eared fox and black-backed jackal were the main predators we encountered in the parks. Impala, Beisa oryx, Grant’s gazelle, the amazing gerenuk giraffe gazelle and the tiny dik-dik are the antelopes of the savanna. Hiking in Switzerland | La Berthe and Col de Cou | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-12-12 | Breathtaking hike along the snowy mountain ridge to La Berthe and further along the border between France and Switzerland to Col de Cou. We started our hike at Barme rest area near Champéry and followed the steep mountain ridge trail to Croix d’Increne and continued all the way to La Berthe. The ascending and descending through the snow was very slippery so we had to use spikes on our hiking boots. From La Berthe we descended along the Swiss-French border to Col de Cou and from there returned to Croix d’Increne and finally Barme rest area. Throughout the entire hike we had a fantastic view on the Dent du Midi, Dent de la Chaux and Les Dents Blanches mountain range on one side and the Portes du Soleil ski region on the other. Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Barme rest area (1618m). We follow the steep path uphill to Croix d’Increne (1838m). Here we continue on the mountain ridge towards our highest point at La Berthe (1989m). From there path follows the border between France and Switzerland to the mountain pass at Col de Cou (1920m) the furthest point of our hike. Hiking in Switzerland | Lac de Cleuson and Bisse de Chervé | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-11-28 | Wonderful autumn hike through colourful larch forests to the majestic lake Cleuson. We started our hike early morning at the Siviez rest area before sunrise. The ground was frozen from a cold night but after a while, we reached the larch forests and the first rays of sunlight reached into the valley. We continued to climb up and towards the barrage of the lake Cleuson. After a steep incline we reached the top of the barrage and had a magnificent view over the lake and snow-covered mountains surrounding it. We followed the path all around the lake and up the flank until we reached the high altitude trail and the Ancient Bisse de Chervé. From there we followed the challenging trail back and all along the way, we had a stunning panorama view on the mountains. After a while we reached Chervé where the path diverts and we followed the trail down to the valley. After hiking through more colourful larch forest we finally arrived back at the rest area at Siviez.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Siviez rest area (1727m). We follow the path towards the Cleuson barrage until we reach the Cleuson lake (2179m). From there we continue along the lake and towards furthers point of our hike at la Gouille (2355m) where we reach the beginning of the Ancien Bisse de Chervé. We follow the trail until we reach Chervé (2261m). There the path down to Siviez branches off from the trail. After a long descent, we arrive back at the Siviez rest area (1727m). Hiking in Switzerland | Lac Bleu via Zau des Têtes | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-11-19 | Majestic hike through yellow larch forest in Val d’Hérens to Lac Bleu (the blue lake). We started our hike at the La Gouille rest area and followed the mountain river La Borgne d’Arolla up-stream. At the village Pramousse the path leads uphill and soon we reached the larch forests. In the early morning sun, all the larch trees were glowing in bright yellow and orange colours. Just before reaching the village of Arolla a difficult high mountain trail branches off the main route and we followed that challenging path all the way to Lac Bleu. The trail continues through wonderful larch forests high above the valley. There were some challenging parts on the way with a narrow passage next to a steep cliff and some moderate climbing down over rocks. After a final steep ascent, we reached to popular mountain lake Lac Bleu. We had a stunning view of the surrounding mountains beautifully reflecting in the clear water. From Lac Bleu we slowly descended and hiked back down into the valley.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the La Gouille rest area (1835m). We follow the path along the La Borgne d’Arolla river up-stream to the village Pramousse (1837m). There we continue on the other side of the valley all the way up to Zau des Tête (2037m) where the high alpine branches off the path to Arolla. From there the path leads directly to Lac Bleu (2091m). From Lac Bleu we follow the path further north and back down into the valley at La Gouille where we started. Hiking in Switzerland | Lac de Derborence via Montbas | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-11-07 | Hiking through a wonderful autumn landscape in the alpine valley of Derborence. We started our tour at the lake Derborence rest area under a cloudy sky and walked uphill and towards the rockslide area from 1749. In that year 50 million cubic meter of rock slid from the Diablerets massif into the valley. The entire area has now become an impressive nature reserve. After crossing the enormous scree field, we reached the alp La Combe d’en Haut. As we continued, the weather cleared and the sky opened up. When arriving at the alp La Lui d’en Bas we were rewarded with a bright blue sky and sunlight. This was very helpful because now the path became more steep and challenging. As we continued deeper into the valley and soon reached the Lizerne river which we had to cross. After a tricky crossing, we reached the opposite mountain range and followed the path towards the alp Montbas Dessus. From there a long descent brought us finally to the lake Derborence. It was a breathtaking view to see all the surrounding mountains reflected in the water of the lake. From there we ended the hike at the Derborence rest area. Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the Derborence rest area (1464m) near the lake. We follow the path up and through the scree field until at the alp La Combe d’en Haut (1444m). We continue a bit on the road and then back on the trail towards the alp La Lui d’en Bas (1495m). From there the path is more challenging and requires good hiking skills. At the furthest point of the tour we cross the Lizeren river (1592m). On the opposite side of the mountain, the path leads back to the alp Montbas Dessous (1553m). Hiking in Switzerland | Grand Bisse dAyent via Lac de Tseuzier | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 4K Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-10-22 | Breathtaking view over lake Tseuzier with all surrounding mountains reflecting in the water as we walked over the dam. We started our hike at Les Rousses near Anzère and walked towards lake Tseuzier. When arriving at the dam we couldn’t believe how lucky we were. The entire lake was absolutely smooth and the reflection of the mountains was breathtaking. After a long while enjoying this view we continued our hike with a steep descent down and towards the famous Grand Bisse d’Ayent. Before reaching the ancient irrigation canal we had to pass an enormous wall that falls vertically over hundred meter down into the valley. A narrow and very challenging path led us directly to the wall and along the cliff edge. Once passed the wall we soon reached the beginning of the Grand Bisse d’Ayent. At this early stage the canal does not have any water but after continuing following the canal we soon reached the point where the water beginns to flow. From now on the steady stream of water accompanied us on our hike. Then we arrived at another vertical wall where in the past the water was redirected around the mountain in a hanging wooden canal. Later a tunnel was build and the hanging canal became obsolete. Nowadays they reconstructed a section of the hanging canal to show the technique used in the past. From the tunnel we could reach a platform hanging from the wall and directly above the wooden canal. This was for sure an adventure to step out from and hover over the abyss. After this spectacular view we continued our hike still following the canal until we reached the road to Anzère. There we left the Grand Bisse d’Ayent and headed back to our destination at the village of Anzère.Tour itinerary Our hike starts at the ski lift station of Les Rousses (1766m) near Anzère. Following the road through several tunnels, we reach the lake Tseuzier (1779m). There the path diverts down into the valley and towards the Grand Bisse d’Ayent. Once on this trail it continues all the way to Samarin (1396m) and finally la Boucielle (1370m). Hiking in Switzerland | Col de la Brinta via Crêt du Midi | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-10-07 | Breathtaking view over the Swiss Alps as we hiked from Crêt du Midi up to Col de la Brinta. Starting at Vercorin we took the gondola up to Crêt du Midi mountain station. There we followed a steep path all the way up to La Brinta. A very challenging alpine trail led us around the summit of La Brinta. We followed the long ridge to Col de la Brinta and finally to the highest point of our hike at Sex de la Brinta. During the entire hike we had a stunning view over the Valais Alps including the famous Matterhorn and the Dom mountain. After lunch break we returned to Col de la Brinta for our descent to the Alp de Tsartsey and further to the high plateau of l’Ar du Tsan. On this plateau the river Rèche created a wonderful moor and on exiting the plain at le Pichiot it turns into a beautiful waterfall. From there we headed back to the Crêt du Midi mountain station where we took the gondola down to Vercorin.Tour itinerary After a short gondola ride from Vercorin the tour starts at the Crêt du Midi mountain station (2332m). From there a steep alpine trail climbs up to La Brinta (2659). The way around the summit is very challenging and requires good hiking skills. Soon after we reach Col de la Brinta (2600m) where the path diverts down into the valley. We continue walking on the ridge and arrive at the highest point at Sex de la Brinta (2693m). We return via the same path to Col de la Brinta and descend to the Alp de Tsartsey (2230m). From there we continue to the high plateau of l’Ar du Tsan (2183m) and the waterfall at le Pichioc (2182m). Hiking in Switzerland | Dent de Nendaz via Balavaux | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-09-17 | Breathtaking view over the Swiss Alps as we hiked over the mountain ridge trail from Le Basso d'Alou to the Dent de Nendaz. At Haute-Nendaz cable car station we took a cab ride and started our tour near the small lake Gouille d'Ouché. Then we followed the famous irrigation canal Bisse de Saxon all around the mountain and up to the village of Prarion. The path climbs continously until we reached the alp Balavaux. A very steep alpine trail brought us all the way from Balavaux up to the mountain ridge at Le Basso d'Alou. From there we followed the challenging ridge trail up and down over various peaks until we finally reached the summit of Dent de Nendaz. From there we descended to the Tracouet lake and the cable car station of Tracouet where we took a ride back down to Haute-Nendaz.Tour itineraryThe tour officially starts at the Haute-Nendaz cable car station but we skipped the first 4 km/300m with a cab ride and started our tour at the lake Gouille d'Ouché (1710m). After a short hike the path joins with the Bisse de Saxon (1755m). On almost level ground you follow all around the mountain until the path diverges to the alpine village of Prarion. The trail continously climbs to Prarion and then even further to the alp Balavaux (2050m). Soon after Balavaux a steep alpine trail leads directly to the ridge at Le Basso d'Alou (2337m). From there you follow the rige all the way to Dent de Nendaz (2463m). Once you reach the summit you can see the cable car station at lake Tracouet down below (2169m). Hiking in Switzerland | Col de Bretaye via Col de la Croix | Swiss Alps Canton Vaud | 2020 (4K) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-09-02 | Breathtaking view over the Swiss Alps from a mountain ridge trail. Our tour started in Col de la Croix in the Vaud Alps and took us all the way up to Chaux Ronde and further to Col de Bretaye. Right in the beginning we hiked to the famous gypsum pyramids, an asthonishing geological formation of eroded Karst rock. From there we continued uphill to Col d'Encrène where an unmarked ridge trail diverts from the official hiking path. Following the ridge trail we had specatular views on the surrounding mountains but also terrifing moments when the narrow trail led us along vertical cliffs on both sides. Finally we reached the highest point when we passed below the peak of Chaux Ronde. We descended to the alp En Conche and soon after we rejoined the official hiking trail and continued to Col de Bretaye. Beautiful chalets are situated next to the Bretaye lake. On the return path we passed by the picturesque alp Ensex before arriving back in Col de la Croix.Tour itinerary:The tour starts in Col de la Croix by following the sign up to the gypsum pyramids. From there the path continues uphill to Col d'Encrène. At the top the official trail goes straight to Perche and then continues to Col de Bretaye. The ridge trail that we chose turns left and then up to Chaux Ronde. After passing by Chaux Ronde the path descents to the alp En Conche and later rejoins the official trail to Col de Bretaye. Camera was mounted on a tripod with in-body image stabilization (IBIS) turned off and electronic shutter was used.Shutter delay of 2 sec. was set for all shots.Some thoughts about my lens: Similar to my 17mm f/1.8 lens, this lens was purchased 7 years ago and it seems that same as my 17mm the image quality is not absolutely top nudge. Sill it performs very well and the image quality remains high and consistent over all f-stops and corner to corner. But my expectations are not quite met, especially when most reviews are claiming this to be one of the sharpest mft-lens. Diving the Four Kings | Wonderful Diving in Raja Ampat, West-Papua, Indonesia 2019/2020 (4K Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-05-06 | Huge manta rays, anchovy bait balls, clouds of schooling fish, colorful nudibranchs and flatworms, pigmy seahorses and countless reef fishes were omnipresent on our dives in Raja Ampat and Misool. A very special moment was the close encounter with a heavily pregnant reef manta ray with an impressive bulged belly and back. On one particular dive we were surrounded by anchovy bait balls which were constantly threatened by passing jack fishes. Many times we had clouds of schooling fish passing above us and darkening the ocean.In the corals we found many different species of nudibranchs, a huge variety of marine flatworms and lots of pygmy sea horses and other critters.Welcome to our diving safari to Raja Ampat over Christmas and New Year 2019/2020. Amazing Walking Safari in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Lugogo Wetlands, Uganda 2019 (4K Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-04-03 | In the end we were pushed back by five rhinos which came out of the bush and walked towards us! We got this everlasting memory from our walking safari to the white rhinos in Uganda. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is located near Murchison Falls National Park and is home to the only white rhinoceros population in Uganda. The sanctuary offers a protected place for the rhinos to grow and one day to be reintroduced in Uganda. The sanctuary is open to visitors for guided walking safaris which take place usually in the morning and afternoon. We had the chance to go on two walks and we had amazing rhino encounters on both of them. Late in the afternoon we found a group of five male rhinos grazing in the bush. We stayed with them for a while when suddenly they started walking towards us and we had to move back steadily to keep the distance. Finally we were pushed out of the bush and back to our car. After monitoring the situation for a while the rhinos changed direction and we could see them walking away. What an amazing encounter! We never expected this walk to be that exciting.The next morning we went for an early birding excursion to the Lugogo Wetlands next to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The Lugogo Wetlands are home to the majestic shoebill and other birds, but the flat terrain makes it tricky to approach the birds stealthily. We ended our excursion with a picturesque canoe ride on one of the channels that runs through the Lugogo Wetlands. The channels are edged by Papyrus and the water is covered by hydrophytes. Welcome to our walking safari to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and birding in Lugugo Wetlands in Uganda in August 2019. Amazing Boat Safari on the White Nile and Hiking to the Murchison Falls, Uganda 2019 (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-02-26 | Our boat safari on the White Nile brought us close to the famous Murchison waterfalls. On our way up-stream we came across many birds, hippos and nile crocodiles. Then our boat stopped a short distance from the falls and we continued our journey on foot. The closer we came towards the falls the more stunning the view became. Once we reached the highest point above the falls we had a breathtaking view on both water streams either side of the central island. From there we came closer and closer to the thundering water. More and more spray engulfed us and our cameras but also painted a beautiful rainbow in the sky. Soon we stood close to the waterfall and we could feel the power behind these masses of water forcing its way through the narrow gap in the rock. We could have watched this hypnotic scene for much longer but we had to continue our walk and soon after we met our fantastic driver Beki from Great Lakes Safaris at the car park. Olympus M.ZUIKO 17mm f/1.8 Prime Lens Image and Sharpness Test Samples (4K-Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-02-25 | Comparison of the Olympus M.ZUIKO 17mm f/1.8 Prime Lens from aperture f/1.8 to f/5.6 for overall image apperance, distortion and vignetting, center sharpness, horizontal resolution, vertical resolution and diagonal resolution, off-center elements, corner elements and chromatic aberration.All images were taken with the same Olympus O-MD E-M1 mk. II at ISO 200 and aperture priority mode starting from f/1.8, f/2.8, f/4.0 and f/5.6. Camera was mounted on a tripod with in-body image stabilization (IBIS) turned off.Shutter delay of 2 sec. was set for all shots.Some thoughts about my lens: As you noticed from the sample images, my lens has a very significant decrease of image quality towards the top-right corner, especially at f/1.8. It becomes less noticable once I stop down to f/4.0 or even f/5.6. But the entire right half of the frame is suffering from this issue. Viewed at normal size, this is not so noticable but above 100% crop it is clearly visible. A little bit disappointing.With best regards, Markus
Comparison of Olympus and Panasonic M43 Zoom Lenses and Teleconverters (4K Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2020-02-25 | COMPARISION OF THE Olympus ZUIKO 40-150mm f2.8 RPO and Olympus ZUIKO 300mm f4.0 PRO with no, 1.4x and 2.0x Teleconverter and Panasonic LEICA 100-400 f4.0-6.3 (no Teleconverter)Dear Members, Some of you have requested to include the Panasonic 100-400 in my tests as well. So I have borrowed it from a friend and could do a big test today comparing all the focal length and apperture settings of the three major zoom lenses in combination with their respective teleconverters (Olympus only). Test setup: E-M1 mk. II in apperture priority mode, ISO 200, S-AF (small center box), RAW file mounted on a tripod with a manfrotto fluid head locked tightly. Same street sign as target (approx. 300m distance)Six focal length ranging from 100mm, 150mm, 210mm, 300mm, 420mm (400mm for Panasonic) and 600mm (only Olympus)Three pictures on each apperture setting starting from f2.8, f4.0, f5.6 and f8.0 (or widest open possible).Interesting sidenote: the Panasonic 100-400 always gave a slightly bigger image at the same focal length as Olympus. From each combination of focal length and apperture three picture where taken and the best/shaprest image was selected. I like the image of the olympus better but at this point I might be biased, so if somebody with a preference for Panasonic would review these two images, the arguments could go either way. Also the bigger apperture of the panasonic of 5.6 vs. 4.0 of the Olympus makes the image look different in the background. The primary subject in the middle of the frame is almost identical (which means it's a pixel-mess).At 150mmOlympus 40-150 f4.0 No TC at 1/800by a marginPanasonic 100-400 f5.6 No TC at 1/400Olympus 40-150 f5.6 1.4x TC at 1/400Olympus 40-150 f5.6 2.0x TC at 1/200Same statement as above. The angle is too wide and the subject too small to make any significant distinction. The overall apperance of the picture is pleasing for both lenses.At 210mmOlympus 40-150 f5.6 1.4x TC at 1/400Panasonic 100-400 f8.0 No TC at 1/200Olympus 40-150 f8.0 2.0x TC at 1/200Here the Olympus 1.4x is winning noticably, and the main difference between the Pana and the Oly with 2.0x TC is the quite substancial chromatic abberation of the 2.0x TC. From the level of details, they are both quite similar.At 300mmOympus 300 f4.0 No TC at 1/400Panasonic 100-400 f/8.0 No TC at 1/200Olympus 40-150 f/8.0 2.0x TC at 1/200Here the 300 is clearly winning over the Pana. The 40-150 with 2.0x falls behind.At 420mm/400mmOympus 300 f5.6 1.4x TC at 1/400Panasonic 100-400 f8.0 No TC at 1/200Here it is harder to tell because Oly delivers a bigger image with more details. But to be fair, the Pana holds quite strong here too.At 600mmOympus 300 f8.0 2.0x TC at 1/200It's a class of its own. The amount of details is astonishing. As I have nothing to compare it too, I am just blown away. I don't even have to bother cropping in one of the other pictures, the amount of details and clearity of the image is totally unreachable. Chimpanzees of Kibale and Budongo Forest and Birding in Bigodi Wetlands, Uganda 2019 (4K -Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2019-12-06 | Trekking to our nearest family tree neighbor, the chimpanzee. The Kibale forest national park is home to a big population of chimpanzees and we had the chance to visit a large group with baby and semi-adults. Observing these amazing great apes gives an idea of how close we are related to one another. The articulation, precision and movement of their hand is identical to ours. Also chimpanzees are highly social animals that spend a lot of time grooming each other to keep them free from ticks and other parasites. Our second chimpanzee trekking took place in the Budongo Forest Reserve in Murchison Falls National Park. Here the chimpanzees rested on the ground and we could observe their social behavior in great details.In between the chimpanzee trekking we went for birding excursions. The first started from Ndali Lodge all around the crater lake Nyinambuga where we were lucky to see the great blue turaco, Klaa’s cuckoo and black-and-white-casqued hornbill. The second birding was in the Bigodi wetlands. Besides many species of birds we also saw red colobus, black-and-white colobus and red-tailed monkeys. Amazing Wildlife Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kazinga Channel Uganda 2019 (4K video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2019-10-31 | Amazing wildlife, a huge variety of birds and primates are typical for the Queen Elizabeth National Park, located right at the border to the DR Kongo. The park stretches over a huge area from north to south where each part has its own distinct vegetation and landscape. Herbivores such as elephant, cape buffalos, topis, waterbucks and Ugandan kob are widespread all over the park. Lion, leopard and spotted hyena are the main predators. During our game drive from Ishasha sector to Kazinga channel we were incredibly lucky to spot a Ross’s turaco and a group of red-tailed monkeys. The famous Kazinga channel connects Lake George with Lake Eduard and is home to hippos, crocodiles and many species of birds like cormorant, pelican, stork and kingfisher. Majestic Shoebill - Amazing Birding in Mabamba Swamp and Entebbe, Uganda 2019 (4K Video) Sandra & Markus Trachsel 2019-08-29 | Face to face with the most iconic bird of Uganda: the shoebill. The Mabamba swamp in Lake Victoria near Entebbe is an amazing place for birding and is one of the most famous locations to track this astonishing bird. The swamp is home to a population of 12 shoebills and it took some effort for our guide and the boat driver to find one of these wonderful birds in the swamp as the papyrus surrounding the channels is very tall. Finally, we were rewarded with a close encounter with this amazing bird.Welcome to our birding and wildlife safari to Uganda in August 2019. We stayed two nights at the wonderful “The Boma” hotel in Entebbe. Our first destination was the Mabamba swamp where we had our very first encounter with the majestic shoebill and other water birds. The area of Entebbe offers many different species of birds and was an ideal start of our birding trip around Uganda. Immediately upon arrival, we spotted great blue turacos and black-and-white-casqued hornbills.
