The first part has been posted previously and is of the Gwabegar tour of the Victorian based Association of Railway Enthusiasts on the way to orange via Wellington. The Garratt returned over night to Dubbo on another working and then double headed with 3649 leading to Dubbo via Yeoval on a goods train. Some of the scenes are a bit fuzzy but I included them anyway as they cannot be retaken.Trains at the top of Spencer Gulf Port Augusta South Australiareidgck2020-07-13 | Trains at Port Augusta South Australia at the top of Spencer Gulf with part of the Flinders Ranges in the background..NSW Steam Dubbo and Orange areas Easter 1967 inc. The final runs of N class steam locomotives of the Victorian Railways was in October 19 96. Shown is the scene at Spencer Street station Melbourne before the train departed for Ballan The train is seen arriving at Ballan and the locomotives the locomotives being serviced and turned before returning to Melbourne. The now removed turntable was also host for a strategically placed walker rail motor and trailer. Some of these scenes were shot from the walker rail motor trailer. The Victorian Railways K class 2-8-0 steam locomotives, all built before 1923, were not designed for possible conversion to standard gauge which was envisaged to replace some of the broad gauge lines in Victoria. Therefore, the later N class locomotives were designed for such possible conversion. The N class were largely mechanically similar to the K class. They except had a trailing truck under the firebox which allowed the firebox to be wider and so not be an obstacle to gauge conversion. This consequently meant a longer boiler than the K class resulting in a longer locomotive. However, by the time the first standard gauge line to Albury was built, the N class were being withdrawn from service. Thirty N class steam locomotives were built at the Victorian Railways workshops at Newport between 1925 and 1931. Another 50 were later built by North British, and yet another 20 were ordered from Newport workshops, of which only three were built due to the later J class steam locomotives with higher boilers, and being mechanically similar to the K and N class, and designed for easy conversion to standard gauge, being adopted. The newer J class, unlike the N class, could use branch lines which had shorter 50 and 53 foot turntables. Ten N class locomotives were sold to the South Australian Railways during a locomotive shortage there and became the South Australian Railways 750 class. Two survive. One is in the Railway Historical Society Museum at Newport Victoria and the other is in the National Rail Museum in Adelaide South Australia.Steam to Mildura Pinnaroo Tailem Bend Easter 1968reidgck2020-04-10 | Victorian steam locomotive J515 and its Easter 1968 excursion to Mildura & Pinnaroo South Australia + SAR's 526 Pinaroo to Tailem Bend + the final part of the trip with R749 taking over from diesel electric locomotive B85 that brought the train from Serviceton on the Vic/SA border to Ararat.. The Southern Aurora overshot the passing loop at Violet Town at high speed - where it was meant to stop to let an on coming freight train pass. It collided head on with the freight train on the Melbourne side of Violet Town with the loss of nine lives. These black and white pictures were taken after the wreckage had been pushed aside and the line repaired and re opened. Also there are pictures of the first arrival of the Southern Aurora with replacement Railways of Australia carriages. The train arrived at number 2 platform rather than the usual number 1 because number 1 platform has a bend in it and clearances had to be later checked due to the skirting along the sides of the replacement carriages. The southern Aurora is shown pushed into number 1 platform for this purpose. Also shown are is the Overland express in number 1 platform and the Spirit of Progress about to arrive at number 1 platform. In 2020 the days in the week coincide with the accident. These were the days of axle generated power before the introduction of power vans for generating the electricity for the train. When the Victorian G class came into service with capabilities of supplying the generation of power for the train, the power vans were taken off and the G class ran all the way through to Adelaide. Also since this was taken, the railway between Melbourne and Adelaide has been converted to standard gauge and runs via North Geelong to Ararat and beyond rather than via Ballarat. The broad gauge between Ballarat and Ararat was out of use for some years until the reintroduction of broad gauge passenger trains. Thus there is a broad gauge and a standard gauge platform at Ararat and broad gauge trains have to negotiate a crossing of the standard gauge via a diamond crossing to access the broad gauge platform.NSU55 & NSU56 William Creek 1982reidgck2019-09-04 | While pulling up the rails on the old Central Australia narrow gauge railway in William Creek yards, NSU55 departed with a trainload of recovered rails for Marree and the contractor camp trai which was being moved to Strangways Siding in readiness for the section of railway between William Creek and Strangway siding to be pulled up. It was a very hot day and NSU55 became a failure some kilometres out and NSU56 had to leave its work pulling up the rails at William Creek and venture out to rescue NSU55 and its train and tow it back to William Creek. The two locomotive crews were in contact via 2 way radio. The train that NSU56 pushed out to couple to the back of the broken down train, was apparently because of otherwise difficulties in coupling the trains together. There was likely rail hanging over the end of the broken down train and it was easieir to take a whole train particularly as there were two rails permanently along the side of the whole train trail rto carry the mobile rail lifter which was a converted digger as seen in other videos in the playlist at. youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSMqGtLD9Q-s2a77cZ-ueNBk3wHbbdcvBCane Train Mossman Nth Qld moving Tablelands canereidgck2019-09-02 | Before the sugar cutting season gets underway along the coast in North Queensland,, sugar that has already matured on the cooler Atherton Tablelands is being trucked to a transfer yard outside Mossman where it is loaded onto narrow 2 foot gauge sugar cane trains for transport to the Mossman sugar mill. Footage taken with Dashcam August 12th 2019. The river normally flows some metres below the bridge but the road height beyond the bridge is lower than the deck of the bridge and the water is thus finding an easier path. The indicator post says the water is just under one metre deep where the water is crossing the road. This is at the same time while some parts of Australia are in drought with occurrences like the dam at Stanthorpe in Queensland about to run out of waterSteam train and M.V. Abel Tasman Devonport to Burnie Nov 1987reidgck2019-08-12 | M.V. Abel Tasman and steam locomotive Ma2 and train of passenger carriages restored by the Don River Railway at Devonport, simultaneously make a trip from Deonport to Burnie as part of Tasmania Day celebrations in November 1987. The train made two such return journeys to Burnie on two days while the Abel Tasman made one return voyage, returning on the following day. Thus, the train in effect, escorted the ship on the forward voyage on the first day and on the return voyage the second day. Passengers who sailed to Burnie on the first day returned on the train the same day while the next day, passengers who rode on the train from Devonport to Burnie returned on the Abel Tasman. That was in the time when M.V. Abel Tasman made three return journeys to Melbourne per week and stayed Saturday nights in Devonport. When the ship returned from Burnie to Devonport, it had to load up for its next crossing that night, of Bass Strait to Melbourne. Scenes on this video were taken on the two days and combined by editing with travel being on the train to Burnie on the first day Apologies for Video quality being a bit down, it was taken with early equipment , but is posted as an unrepeatable historic event and i an upgrade of a previous post.Original Spirit of Tasmania to Devonport and back July 1994reidgck2019-08-06 | Original Spirit of Tasmania from Port Melbourne to Devonport Tasmania and back July 1994.Road Construction Mt Molloy Qldreidgck2019-07-17 | Making the Road Mt Molloy Queensland AustraliaPB15 454 Queenscliff to Lakers Siding + dismantled boiler Picturesreidgck2019-07-03 | PB15 454 on the Bellarine Peninsula Railway in Victoria on a run in the early 1980s from Queenscliff to Lakers Siding and return + boiler Pictures showing the anatomy of the boiler and the fire box position and the way the firebox is mounted and supported.
