tags/story After prototyping my 3D Pixel Art game, I got an idea to make it about cleaning up spilled oil in the water. I decided to call it 'Spilled!' In this game you drive to a nearby recycle facility to deliver your collected oil. You'll be awarded coins for your good deed. Upgrade your boat! Venture out to clean bigger and stronger oil spills! I made a temporary system to generate oil spills. I added an island to upgrade your boat. I opted for splitting the game into different areas, each with its own oil spill type and size, needing an upgraded boat. I played around with being able for the player to go on land. I made the upgrades more expensive on each purchase. I made the oil look better using a sine wave and shrinking the oil circles, making it look like the boat sucks up the oil. I made the recycling island look a little nicer. I made some temporary environment for the game demo. I made a start screen and an end screen. I made and launched a steam page.

A quick update! I have spent the last two weeks brainstorming and prototyping ideas for the game. Itβs been a bit of a difficult process, completely changing the game multiple times. I didnβt quite feel it was something to make a YouTube video about!Creating A 3D Pixel Art WorldLente2022-12-03 | Sign up to my newsletter to receive the game demo! β https://Lente.me | You'll also receive exclusive progress updates!

I switched to Unity instead of making the game from scratch I started recreating the 3D pixel art look. My brother made some awesome 3D models in Blender! I started off with making a water shader with depth, foam lines and refraction. Then I added multiple boats that are able to avoid each other, using the boids / flocking algorithm. In the final game, the player will be able to craft more boats using resources, to be stronger and be able to go and explore further into the world (since there will be enemies as well). I then added obstacle avoidance using raycast. I also added a world generation system procedural using chunks.

0:44 Triangles and math 1:30 The actual game 2:34 Achieving the pixel look
I'm making a 3D game about boats without a game engine. I'm making the game with OpenGL, that means no interface like in Unity or Unreal. It all started out with a triangle I then used math called matrices to turn it 3D then I added a water shader and made it move by offsetting the texture UVs I opted for a pixel art style, got inspired by t3ssel8ter i made a toon shader i used a frame buffer object to make the game pixelated the camera is set to orthographic mode and my school is making me port this to the raspberry pi!
