Music runs deep at Western AF, and nobody captures that raw, heartfelt vibe quite like Dylan Earl. His honest sound, big love demeanor, an inclusive attitude are what him feel like kin out.

And somewhere in all that, he's waging a quiet war against fascism.

Dylan Earl saw the so called "outlaw country" scene for what it was… more costume than conviction. The hats got taller, the boots shinier, and somewhere along the line, the rebellion got replaced with some half-m baked nostalgia and bumper sticker politics. He called it out. Straight up. Said, “I’d rather be a bootlegger than a bootlicker” ideology.” That’s a hell of a line. Cuts deep and served for all you sinners out there.

Because he’s not here to cosplay cowboys or pretend rebellion. Dylan’s playing country the way it should be. Dirty, tender, pissed-off, and grounded in something real. Not some caricature of toughness, but a quiet defiance. A refusal to let the genre be hijacked by hate.

He’s not out here trying to be a hero… he’s just telling the truth. And in a world this screwed up, that’s the kind of rebellion we need.

Few people have cut into the music world as sharply as Ken Pomeroy. With her lyrical precision and the tasteful backing of Dakota McDaniel there is no question as to why she finds herself ever more atop the modern folk world.

Ken uses her music to lend her heart to others generously and with a level of vulnerability that is impossible to miss. But Wrango isn't that. Wrango is a love song to the dog that fills her cup back up.

Our friend Bradley invited us out to his family land outside Tulsa to capture a few songs with Ken. As we pulled in, her truck tire blew and the golden hour shoot slipped below the horizon. Plans changed, we lit a fire and let the cicadas sing along. Ken has never done anything less than steal our hearts. It's a real honor to have her back.

Every so often a video hits the channel that has been in the making for years, this is one of those videos. It's not hard to love these fellas. Their each so damn talented that it truly makes the band hard to fit into a box. They aren't really a fiddle band, but they are. They aren't really singer-songwriters, but again - they are. They aren't really a rock band, but check out their live show and you'll leave wondering if they aren't exactly that.

Two years in the making, it is pretty fun to be writing this. We are truly just big fans of the music these guys are making. They are kind and genuine and their whole camp really cares about what they are doing.

We'll leave it at that, but we hope you enjoy this one.

Put the clean truthful pickings of Sunny War and ghosts in his throat sining of Tré Burt together in a quiet Nashville living room on a cool, calm day, and what you get isn’t some overproduced studio jam but a slow-burning communion. A harmony of punky, folk-blues without the filter. Let me introduce you to Smooth Harrison. What the french call a certain...I don’t know what. But what Tre and Sunny call, “If George Harrison was funky.”

Some of you might recognize pieces of this room. The light, the corners, maybe the way it breathes from an earlier video we shot with Sunny, performing “Whole.” That one quiet little gem, a reminder to slow down, breathe and cool the hell off. And for some of you early Western AF fans, you might know Tré as the guy who wrote a ballad about police brutality and incited the worst ratio of butt hurt blue-line loyalists to coffee shop keyboard warriors ever in the history of take-away shows. Hey, as long as you’re watching, we’re good. Every hateful comment is a boost in our algorithm. Kisses.

But before we hit record on that, this… this was the thing we set out to do.

For reasons lost somewhere between bad timing and cruel indifference of musical tastes, the video got buried. Swallowed up by the sands of stacked hard drives and loaded work schedules. Then while digging through the wreckage of old files and ghosts of past sessions…there it was.

Sometimes we get an artist visiting us in Laramie, that want's a little Laramie style in their video. While the amount of locations in our small Wyoming town bleeds Old West and Early Train days, we decided to add in the other 'flairy' side of the West. All flames with no Nascar. AC not only wanted to have flames all over her but match it to an identifiable and iconic band van driving around town. Shawn Hess' green flamed van can't be missed. No question that inner contents of that van outweigh the eye sore of those hand painted images on the outside. But it certainly get's y'alls' attention.

The first time I worked with Valley James was in Nashville. We’d only talked over the phone, just two strangers navigating the awkward dance of planning a shoot. In this line of work, I fly solo more often than not, and there’s always that line you walk that you don’t want to be the creep asking a female artist to meet you in some remote corner of the world with a camera and vague promises of "art."

But Valley cut right through all that. “Let’s shoot this in the graveyard,” she said. No hesitation. No fluff. She was the kind of artist who'd chase a good idea straight into the dirt, if that’s where it lived. That was our first video, and she became an immediate friend after,

Fast forward to the latest shoot. We’re out in Wyoming, off Highway 130, standing on a private field we absolutely shouldn’t be on, but we had a nod and a wink kind of permission. A snow fence in the distance, mountains brooding like background actors, waiting for the kind of light that only shows up when the world’s about to go to sleep. The golden hour, they call it. I call it borrowed time.

Valley stood there, singing a song that felt like a wound being reopened in real-time. It was something raw, heavy, and honest. The kind of music that doesn’t ask for your attention, it just takes it. And in that fading light, something happened. A moment that wasn’t pretty, but it was beautiful. And if you were really listening, it could chill you straight to the bone.

I wish more people appreciated what Valley James does. Really appreciated it. Because this is the kind of music that actually means something. The kind I’m willing to chase down backroads for, lug gear through mud for, and trespass or politely trespass for. t’s not safe. It’s not polished for mass consumption. It doesn’t beg for radio play.
But it f*ck’n matters.

Meanwhile, the pop-country machine keeps cranking out pre-fab songs about beer, tailgates, and heartbreaks that feel more like branding exercises than actual human emotion. Slick, soulless, and somehow louder than everything else. It floods the airwaves, sells the tickets, wins the awards.

And yet, the real stuff? The blood and bone kind of music? That often gets left behind. Forgotten.
It’s a damn shame. Because if you ever heard Valley sing with your eyes closed, you’d know. You’d feel it in your chest like a memory you don’t want back. And maybe then you’d realize… this is what music is supposed to be.
