Tracy Chapman is one of the greatest songwriters of any era. Her works' influence on American recorded music cannot be overstated. She's your favorite songwriter's favorite songwriter. If you haven't, I highly recommend you give her entire discography a thorough listen. There is so much material to love beyond her handful of famous singles.
After listening to this song about a million times, I decided it was time to give it the full-length ambient treatment. I've loved the "800% Slower" genre of videos since high school, so I might make more soon. This is the first time I've uploaded one. (My other ambient music was not made in this way).

Adam Magyar's Stainless is one of the most beautiful video art pieces I've ever seen. The first time I saw it, it filled me with hopefulness and a sense of human unity. I knew instantly that I wanted to write some music to it. During the process, I got the idea to include Charlie Chaplin's speech on the subject of human unity.

So I found a short film in need of a score, and tried to do just that.
Using Ableton Live 10, a mic, a cardboard box and a rubber band, I recorded and manipulated dozens of sounds. I tried to stay within the boundaries of all DAWs, in order to stay true to the point Hans is trying to make. I used pitch shifting, cutting, warping, reverb, EQ and some compression to create the sounds that made it into the film. I did not use Max for Live devices, or any effects that I felt might be unique to Live (like complex effect racks). The point is to make something that could be made with any freely available tools, like Reaper or GarageBand.
Overall, regardless of how successful you feel my score is or isn't, I think my experiment shows Hans Zimmer's words ring true: you really could score an entire film with just about anything.
