#AstroCityMini #ArcadeStick #ArcadeStickModZelda Christmas Challenge: Eating a Mince Pie Every Time We Die - Fossil ArcadeFossil Arcade2021-12-22 | It is Christmas! It is the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda! Watch, as Fossil Arcade bring these two exciting events together, with Alex playing the original NES Zelda for the first time, and Graeme paying penance by eating a mince pie, every time he dies.
"The Legend of Zelda, originally released in Japan as The Hyrule Fantasy: Zelda no Densetsu, is a 1986 action-adventure video game developed and published by Nintendo and designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. Set in the fantasy land of Hyrule, the plot centers on an elf-like boy named Link, who aims to collect the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom in order to rescue Princess Zelda from the antagonist, Ganon. During the course of the game, the player controls Link from a top-down perspective and navigates throughout the overworld and dungeons, collecting weapons, defeating enemies and uncovering secrets along the way.
The first game of The Legend of Zelda series, it was originally released in Japan as a launch game for the Family Computer Disk System peripheral in February 1986. More than a year later, North America and Europe received releases on the Nintendo Entertainment System in cartridge format, being the first home console game to include an internal battery for saving data. This version was later released in Japan in 1994 under the title The Hyrule Fantasy: Zelda no Densetsu 1. The game was ported to the GameCube and Game Boy Advance, and is available via the Virtual Console on the Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. It was also one of 30 games included in the NES Classic Edition system, and is available on the Nintendo Switch through the NES Switch Online service." - The Legend of Zelda, Wikipedia
"Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, known as Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe and Australia and Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer (Japanese: ニンテンドークラシックミニ ファミリーコンピュータ) in Japan, is a dedicated home video game console by Nintendo, which emulates the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It launched on November 10, 2016 in Australia and Japan, and November 11, 2016 in North America and Europe. Aesthetically, the console is a miniature replica of the NES, and it includes a static library of 30 built-in games from the licensed NES library, supporting save states for all of them.
Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer (CLV-101) Nintendo produced and sold about 2.3 million NES Classic Editions from November 2016 through April 2017, with shipments selling out nearly immediately. In April 2017, Nintendo announced they were discontinuing the product, leading to consumer confusion, and incidents of greatly increased pricing among private sellers. Due to the demand of the NES Classic, and the success of the Super NES Classic Edition console, Nintendo re-introduced a limited run of the NES Classic on June 29, 2018. Production was discontinued again in December 2018." - NES Classic Edition, Wikipedia

Who's body is the better controller? Which Sega franchises translate best to silly motion controlled webcam games? Why was this filmed in 5.7k on a Insta360 ONE R camera? Watch to find out...
"Sega Superstars is a game developed by Sonic Team in 2004 for the PlayStation 2 EyeToy. It features a series of games based on previous Sega titles. Gameplay is similar to that of Eyetoy: Play. However, whilst that game only picked up player's movement, Sega Superstars uses a more advanced system. Before the start of each game, a setup screen with an orange area is shown. In order to start the game, players have to stand in a position where the orange area won't pick up any movement and select the continue button. This method determines what area is the background, allowing Eyetoy to pick up the player's position, as opposed to just what areas are moving. This is particularly prominent in games like Puyo Puyo, that uses the player's entire body." - sonic.fandom.com

Sega developed a whole range of “City” cabinets, with 1993’s Astro City proving to be by far the most ubiquitous and iconic. They’re still a very common sight in Japanese arcades." - the Verge

Pushing the mini console craze to it's absolute limits ... Sega's Game Gear Micro hit Japan in early October, and we're here to finally put it through it's paces.
"GAME GEAR" was the only portable game console in Sega's history. It was loved by game fans all over the world as a pioneering color LCD mobile hardware. In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Game Gear's release, it will be revived as a "GAME GEAR MICRO" that fully condensed the GAME GEAR's charm.
The main body size is 80 mm wide x 43 mm high x 20 mm deep, which is a very small micro size that is less than 40% of the original game gear. Four colour variations are released at the same time, each with four built-in games. Megami Tensei revives on Sonic, Puyo Puyo 2 and Shining Force on a 1-inch monitor. You can decorate your room or play until you clear the game. Next to the mini is "Game Gear Micro"! It will be released on October 6th, the 30th anniversary memorial day." - Official Description

#GameGearMicro #SEGABilly Hatcher Gamecube Demo Disc LETS PLAY - Fossil ArcadeFossil Arcade2020-10-08 | Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg was the only gamecube game to ever feature on a magazine cover in the UK, given away with the 136th Issue of Nintendo Official Magazine in January 2004.
Alex and Graeme test out one of the multiplayer modes and judge whether it would've been enough to sell them on Sonic Team's experimental new SEGA Franchise... Which has never received a sequel.
"Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is a platform video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003. It was ported to Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X in 2006, for release in Europe." - Billy Hatcher, WIkipedia
"The protagonist of this adventure is a quizzical lad from the human world. With the courage bestowed upon him by the Chicken god Menie-Funie, he embellishes the Legendary Chicken Suit and plunges into an admirable crusade to save Morning Land from eternal night.” - Timm Bogenn in Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg: Official Strategy Guide
"Billy Hatcher has a unique style of gameplay revolving around rolling large eggs. The player controls the hero, Billy, who cannot do much by himself aside from moving, jumping or using Helper Animals. However, he becomes a powerhouse once he finds an egg. While rolling an egg, Billy moves faster, is stronger and is more agile. He can also dash, throw and return the egg along the ground, slam the egg down from the air, and Billy can travel on rails and fly through NiGHTS styled rings.
The color-coded eggs themselves are another gameplay element. As Billy runs over fruit while holding an egg, the egg gets larger until it flashes and is ready to hatch. Then Billy can hatch the eggs, which can contain helper animals, character powerups, and extra lives. With variables such as egg size, helper animals, and personal powerups, Billy Hatcher can be played in many ways. Different animals can come out of the same eggs, and some creatures are vital to progressing through certain challenges.
"Players should be wary of their handling of the eggs, as they take damage when attacked by enemies or impact certain obstacles. The egg gauge in the lower right-hand corner of the screen begins to crack, as does the egg Billy wields. When the egg takes enough damage, it is destroyed and no bonus comes from it (as well as decreasing Hatch Scores at the end of the level). Eggs can also be 'lost', i.e. put into positions or situations that the player can not retrieve them from. In such cases, the egg will disappear from its position after several seconds of inactivity and will 'respawn' in its nest of origin. All work done to the egg, however, is lost. Some characters from other games appear in certain eggs, such a Sonic the Hedgehog or NiGHTS." - billyhatcher.fandom.com
"Sonic Team is a video game developer owned by the Japanese video game company Sega as part of its Sega CS Research and Development No. 2 division. In Animal Crossing, the player character is a human who lives in a village inhabited by various anthropomorphic animals, carrying out various activities such as fishing, bug catching, fossil hunting. The series is notable for its open-ended gameplay and extensive use of the video game consoles' internal clock and calendar to simulate real passage of time. Four Animal Crossing games have been released worldwide, one each for the Nintendo 64/iQue Player (enhanced and reissued for the GameCube) Nintendo DS, Wii, and the Nintendo 3DS. A fifth game, for the Nintendo Switch, is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2020. The series has been both critically and commercially successful and has sold over 30 million units worldwide. "The Nintendo GameCube (commonly abbreviated as GameCube) is a home video game console released by Nintendo in Japan and North America in 2001 and in the PAL territories in 2002. The sixth-generation console is the successor to the Nintendo 64. It competed with Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's original Xbox. The GameCube is the first Nintendo console to use optical discs as its primary storage medium. The discs are in the miniDVD format and the system was not designed to play full-sized DVDs or audio CDs, unlike its competitors, and focused on gaming instead. The console supports limited online gaming for a small number of games via a GameCube broadband or modem adapter and can connect to a Game Boy Advance with a link cable, which allows players to access exclusive in-game features using the handheld as a second screen and controller." - Gamecube, WIkipedia

This fresh port of SNK's NeoGeo Pocket Fighter comes with a lot more samurai slashing extras than you'd expect...
"Samurai Shodown! 2 (Japanese title: Samurai Spirits! 2 / サムライスピリッツ! 2) is a handheld game in SNK's Samurai Shodown series of fighting games. Unlike its predecessor, it was released on the Neo-Geo Pocket Color system, so its graphics were no longer monochrome.
It was designed as a conversion from the most recent game in the Samurai Shodown series, Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage, and almost all of its story events, endings and cutscenes are derived from its arcade cousin. Almost all of the characters from Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage are included (the sole exception being Hanma Yagyu). It also re-added two series favourites who were not in the arcade, Charlotte and Yagyu Jubei.
Samurai Shodown! 2 retains most of the gameplay elements of its source game, albeit modified to work within a 2D setting.
The Slash and Bust modes for each character were retained, with all of the moves from the arcade kept intact (except for Yuga, who had a third form in the arcade, which was mostly excised). The original "CD combo", first introduced in Samurai Shodown IV, was also retained, but simplified and streamlined from its origins.
Being a game on a handheld platform, versus play was not a primary focus, so SNK added in a "Collection" mode, to extend the game's longevity. This came in the form of virtual cards, which could be traded with other people who owned the game, by linking up systems. There are eight per character (four for Slash, four for Bust). Each card contains a different piece of art, drawn in the game's cartoonish art style, and a bonus that can be equipped on characters. The bonuses come in four types:
Power Up - Increases the damage done by the character's attacks. Defense Up - Decreases the damage taken when the character is hit. Special Move - Enables the player to do a special move which is not otherwise available. Power Up Special - Makes a particular existing special move do more damage, usually accompanied by additional animations." - Samurai Shodown! 2, Wikipedia
"In an unknown land an eerie disturbance disrupts the sky, leading a dark mass to the land. It is the ultimate evil-it is the reincarnation of Yuga the Destroyer. The objective of this being who once more alights to earth is the unification of this world and the Netherworld using the hermaphrodite male and female-that is, the construction of a utopia to become the foundation for the resurrection of the Dark God." "Samurai Shodown (Samurai Spirits in Japan) is a fighting game series by SNK. In Japan, the name of the series is officially in katakana, but is often written in kanji (侍魂, samurai tamashii), with the second character pronounced supirittsu, "spirits", to better reflect the game's setting.
The stories in the series take place in 18th-century Japan, during the Sakoku or seclusion period of Japan (the first four games run across 1788 and 1789) with great artistic license so that foreign-born characters (including some from places that did not exist as such in 1788) and fictional monsters can also be part of the story. The plot of each game is quite different, but they circle a central group of characters and a region in Japan.
Samurai Shodown consequently portrays snippets of the Japanese culture and language internationally with little edits. For instance, unlike most fighting games made in Japan, the characters in the series (including the announcer) generally speak only in Japanese, with dialects ranging from archaic formalities and theatricalism to modern-day slang, something that has been preserved for overseas releases. Win quotes and other cut scenes provide subtitles in several languages, including but not limited to English, Portuguese, and German. Much of the music includes traditional Japanese instruments (predominately the shakuhachi, shamisen, koto and taiko) and later enka. Several characters are loosely based on real figures from Japanese history." Samurai Shodown, Wikipedia

"Animal Crossing is a social simulation video game series developed and published by Nintendo and created by Katsuya Eguchi. Three spin-off games have also been released: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer for Nintendo 3DS, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival for Wii U, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for mobile and PC devices." - Animal Crossing, Wikipedia

"Akira takes place in futurist, cyberpunk "Neo-Tokyo", some decades following the destruction of Tokyo years prior by a massive explosion. A city struggling to prevent crime amid political corruption, the story focuses on Kaneda, the leader of a motorcycle gang, and his friend and fellow member Tetsuo, who is mentally unstable. After a near collision with a child-like Esper, the product of government research to imbibe humans with powerful psychokinetic energies, Tetsuo becomes similarly afflicted. As Tetsuo struggles with controlling his new abilities, Kaneda, desperate to learn more, joins forces with a resistance group, including Kei, a woman he takes interest in. "The Commodore 64, also known as the C64 or the CBM 64, is an 8-bit home computer introduced in January 1982 by Commodore International (first shown at the Consumer Electronics Show, in Las Vegas, January 7–10, 1982). It has been listed in the Guinness World Records as the highest-selling single computer model of all time, with independent estimates placing the number sold between 10 and 17 million units.[2] Volume production started in early 1982, marketing in August for US$595 (equivalent to $1,545 in 2018). Preceded by the Commodore VIC-20 and Commodore PET, the C64 took its name from its 64 kilobytes (65,536 bytes) of RAM. With support for multicolor sprites and a custom chip for waveform generation, the C64 could create superior visuals and audio compared to systems without such custom hardware.
The C64 dominated the low-end computer market for most of the 1980s. For a substantial period (1983–1986), the C64 had between 30% and 40% share of the US market and two million units sold per year, outselling IBM PC compatibles, Apple computers, and the Atari 8-bit family of computers. Sam Tramiel, a later Atari president and the son of Commodore's founder, said in a 1989 interview, "When I was at Commodore we were building 400,000 C64s a month for a couple of years." In the UK market, the C64 faced competition from the BBC Micro and the ZX Spectrum, but the C64 was still one of the two most popular computers in the UK." - Commodore 64, Wikipedia

Check out all this latest port has to offer, with additional features including replays, rewinds and new difficulty options.
"Ninjutsu master Joe Musashi returns in this classic side-scrolling platformer. Utilize shurikens, throwing knives, and more to defeat the enemy and free the hostages. Need more time? Use the rewind feature to move back in time to make sure you’re using your best moves.
Challenge the SEGA AGES version of Shinobi by using the newly added melee button for a special bonus score. Or if you prefer something more achievable, try out the AGES mode and Joe Musashi will have upgraded weapons and increased durability." - Sega Ages Description
"Shinobi (忍) is a side-scrolling action game produced by Sega originally released for the arcades in 1987. In Shinobi, the player controls a modern-day ninja named Joe Musashi who has to stop a terrorist organization named Zeed who are kidnapping the students of his clan. Shinobi was later adapted by Sega to their Master System game console, followed by licensed conversions for other platforms such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, PC Engine, and various home computers, as well as downloadable emulated versions of the original arcade game for the Wii and Xbox 360. A port of the arcade game joined the Nintendo Switch on January 2020 through the Sega Ages series. The success of Shinobi inspired the development of various sequels and spin-offs of the Shinobi series." - Wikipedia
"Shinobi is an umbrella term for the central character in a series of video games developed by Sega commonly referred to as the Shinobi series. The name Shinobi is used as a code-name throughout the series to hide the true identity of its bearer. It has been adopted by various characters, most prominently Joe Musashi, the protagonist of the original series of games (Shinobi -- Shinobi III).
Along with Alex Kidd and Sonic the Hedgehog, the Shinobi ninja has long been one of Sega's flagship characters, acting as a mascot for a short time in the late 1980s when the ninja boom was in full force. Its games are a showcase of Sega's technical accomplishment. Today the games are still noted for their high quality of graphics, gameplay and music, as well as their high level of difficulty.
Shinobi debuted in 1987, in the arcade title Shinobi, and has since featured in eleven other official Shinobi titles and one spin-off game. Nightshade ("Kunoichi" in Japan) is currently the last game in line." - sega.fandom.com

Graeme and Alex spend the festive day together playing Snow Bros., one of their favourites from the Japanese Mega Drive Mini. So, grab your hot chocolate, a couple of mince pies and get comfy for some classic retro gaming!
"The gameplay of Snow Bros. is similar to Bubble Bobble, released in 1986. The game supports up to two players, with each player taking the part of one of two snowmen, Nick and Tom. Each player can throw snow at the enemies. The player must throw snow at each enemy until it is completely covered and turns into a snowball. An enemy partially covered in snow cannot move until it shakes it off. Once an enemy has been turned into a snowball, the player can roll it. The snowball will rebound off of walls until eventually shattering against a wall. Any enemies the snowball rolls into are eliminated and other stationary snowballs start rolling when the rolling snowball touches them. If the player manages to take out all of the enemies with kicking one snowball (this one snowball may be used to make others bounce around as well and increase the chances to pull this trick off), bonus money will fall from the sky." - Snow Bros. "Mega Man: The Power Battle is the first fighting game in the Mega Man franchise. The player can choose Mega Man, Proto Man or Bass to play with, and one of three paths featuring six selectable bosses and two final bosses. Each character is able to use a Charge Shot and a "dash" maneuver performed by pressing the jump button while the down button is being held. Mega Man uses the classic Sliding, Proto Man will Dash forward shield-first (although this does not give the robot any protection), and Bass will use an Air Dash." - Mega Man: The Power Battle, megaman.fandom.com
"The Mega Man Anniversary Collection is a collection of the first eight classic Mega Man series games as well as the two arcade games. The game was released for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube in 2004 and was later released for the Xbox in 2005. A Game Boy Advance version was planned to be released, but was put into indefinite hiatus. The games are exactly like the originals, except that the first six Mega Man games were based on their PlayStation Rockman Complete Works versions (not Mega Man: The Wily Wars). A lot of features were removed from their original Japanese counterparts, but the basic NES and Navi modes are still there. It also contains the PlayStation version of Mega Man 8 rather than the remastered Sega Saturn edition (the main difference being the absences of Cut Man and Wood Man as extra bosses)." "The Commodore 64, also known as the C64 or the CBM 64, is an 8-bit home computer introduced in January 1982 by Commodore International (first shown at the Consumer Electronics Show, in Las Vegas, January 7–10, 1982).

River City Girls "River City Girls (熱血硬派くにおくん外伝 リバーシティーガールズ, "Hot-Blooded Tough Guy Kunio Side Story: River City Girls" ) is a beat 'em up role-playing game in the Kunio-kun franchise developed by WayForward and published by Arc System Works. The second spin-off game in the franchise, it was released on September 5, 2019 for PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch (on the Nintendo eShop), Sony PlayStation 4 (through the PlayStation Store) and Xbox One (via Microsoft Store)
The game is directed by Adam Tierney and Bannon Rudis. Rudis previously worked on River City Ransom: Underground, and was approached by Tierney, who wanted to take the River City franchise into a new goofy, zany direction[2]. The two then sought out Priscilla Hamby (Rem), the illustrator of the Devil's Candy webcomic, to re-imagine the characters of the franchise[3]. Tierney and Rudis wanted the characters and presentation to awe the audience. The game departs drastically from previous games in the series with expressive combat and bizarre mechanics, creating a unique system that sets the game apart from other games in the franchise while still having elements from it. Like River City Ransom: Underground, which celebrated the original River City Ransom and the NES era, River City Girls also celebrates the franchises of Technōs Japan." - Kunio-kun FanWiki
"The original Resident Evil 2 was released in 1998 and has sold over 4,960,000 copies. The survival horror masterpiece that captivated the world returns reimagined in January 2019. Driven by insatiable hunger, these creatures act on instinct, gnashing their teeth, ripping at flesh, and devouring their victims. The new immersive camera lets you feel their fangs as they sink into your flesh." - Resident Evil 2 Remake, Official Website

Despite the name, the game is not a sequel to a previous game; the title is a parody of Super Street Fighter II Turbo (or Super Street Fighter II X in Japan). The game features music and interface elements spoofing the Street Fighter Alpha 2 (1996) and Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge (1995). A high definition version titled Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was released in August 2007 on the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network store. The game was also converted for the PC on CDROM Win95 by late Virgin Interactive. A mobile sequel, Puzzle Fighter, was released in November 2017." - streetfighter.fandom.com
