A Nonviolent Caesar 3 Speedrun - Mission 5b Mediolanum [HD] 6m26s

Change 1: Stage 1 now has 8 outer pillars, the motion is carried up stage 1 by collapsing 4 out of 8 pillars. Using collapsing pillars instead of a climbing domino line decreases the risk of an accidental trigger of dominos lines going to the top.
Change 2: Stage 2 now feature an upward spiral wall instead of the lever-chains to carry motion up to stage 3. This is more stable and more aesthetic than the previous system, as it create a "skin" can that more homogenously cover most of the outer layer of he colosseum, and visually fall in a regular and smooth spiral progression.
We are removed the around bridges in an attempt to simplify the structure, but now we use cross shaped pillard to have a large base and more stable structure.

- the interface between stage 1 and stage 2, at what we expected to be the final diameter of ~1.1 meter (or close to) of stage 2 for the final tower
- a lever-chain system (a non domino system) to carry the destruction upward from stage 1 to base of stage 3, through the length of stage 2 (the colosseum)
- again the destruction mechanisms to collapse stage 2 on stage 1, which is the final step to destroy the tower).
Here stage 3 is replaced by a thin wall as the height is limited.

Here we try an alternative bridge pattern. The idea is to make the structure of stage 1 more stable with additional side bridges all around, not just bridge linked to the center pillard like proto1. This also insured that all pillars collapse to the ground.

The world record team will consist of 13 experienced kapla builders, domino builders and youtubers.
We are currently experimenting with designs since January. These were the first prototypes, number 1 and 2, they are testing possible designs for the first and second stages of the tower, and also the interface between them.
Tower stage 1: bridges.
Tower stage 2: colosseum
Tower stage 3: a fine "arrow".
These first two prototypes are to validate:
1) the design and stability of stage 1
2) the proper self-collapse of stage 1 once it starts
3) the interface design between stage 1 and 2

Did not work as expected. We made a first mistake by forgetting the gap at the top (yes we just forget about that gap), and then the structure is a bit too strong and the towers do not hit the bridge quite right. In my next video I have a new system to make sure towers fall on the bridge.

I am using a new camera. The destruction went slightly faster than expected, and one of the walls on the side failed, but fortunately I made two.

That one just didn't work.
Reasons for the failures:
- First fail: the kapla with paint dry and become sticky over time
- Almost fail of the leaning towers at the center: same reason: paint that dries
- Fail of the big leaning tower at the right: it was built too close to the last previous leaning tower (closer than in the tests)
- Multiples fails of the wall: I did build previously the same structure with weights in the middle, and it used to work. But this time it didn't, and I'm not sure why. I guess that maybe putting the weights lowers would have helped, but I'm not sure. I think I won't bother with this structure in the future.
Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes.

I made over 100 tricks, but not all of them made the cut. This video took about 180h of work: 25% experimentation, 50% building/shooting, 25% editing. In the future, I'll do a full edit with all the tricks, and also a video with the fails.

This is a miniature prototype for a project I might do in madrid in the future...
I switched from Premiere to DaVinci Resolve to edit videos. Also you can see that there might be some ghosts in this room triggering dominoes... hopefully it started in reverse and didn't cause much damage.

Building this made me happy, I hope it makes you happy too.
I found so many new mechanisms this is the beginning of a new era.
This build features the following mechanism/structures (all new):
- highway bridge structure
- sonimod mechnism, with a new domino to sonimod transition
- herringbone (bottom left)
- slide (and sonimod to slide transition)
- pinched tower mechanism (the 16 ones attached to the bridge)
- leaning tower trigger mechanism (the one in front of the bridge)
I also bought new lighting. It's a bit too bright on the left because I adjusted it when the wall on the left wasn't built. I'll get better at lighting with time.
The inner mechanism still needs refinement: the inner tower didn't collapse completely, you can see it standing for a little while at the end.

I managed to make this map about 4 minutes shorter than the peaceful version.
Total speedrun time is now 1h08m.
Total time of the speedrun is 1h12m40s.
Two maps take longer that 10m: Valentia/Lutetia (12m) and Sarmizegetuza (11m). When I get those two below 10m, the total speedrun time should be 1h10.
Getting the total time under 1h is tempting but it sounds very impossible.
Why Nonviolent? Because despite me picking mostly military missions, you won't see many invaders dying because I'm too busy building the city. You can still hear them die.
