I solved it! #shorts DGCubes 2021-10-10 | Recently got my first Face Turning Octahedron! I've been working on figuring it out for about a week, and last night I was able to develop an alg that does a 5-cycle of centers when you repeat it 3 times. I had three centers left, so I did the alg haphazardly, trying to "reduce" it to 5 centers, when suddenly it solved itself. (Like I say in the video, this is possible since each center has two centers of the same color that are indistinguishable, so doing my 5-cycle on 3 unsolved centers just happened to move 2 other centers that were already solved to a different location that also happened to be solved.)I'll probably learn a speedsolving method in a while, but for now I'm having a lot of fun exploring and learning about the puzzle independently. If you're unfamiliar with using the command line, I'd recommend Googling how to navigate to different folders (the "cd" and "ls" commands are a good start). Once you're in the main twsearch folder, you'll have to run the command "make", which will compile the code. You may need to install new packages such as g++ for this to work - the command line should provide some commands that you can run directly in the command line to install these packages. If you're having trouble, leave a comment. :) After that, you can test that twsearch with the following command to generate a T-perm solution on 3x3:./twsearch ./samples/3x3x3.tws ./samples/tperm.scrIf this works, congratulations! Thanks :)The full story: I filmed this on my 3DS before I even had a YouTube channel, sometime in late 2012 or early 2013 (don't have my 3DS on me so I can't check). I think I had recently figured out that I can "get really fast times" if I just do an inverse Niklas and a couple F2L moves for the scramble, and I decided it'd be totally awesome and cool to try to fool the internet with my "amazing solving skills". I rediscovered the footage in July, 2018 and uploaded it unlisted to my second channel, and I've occasionally come back to it and shared it with some friends since then. Anyway, today I finally decided I wanted to share it with the world for some reason. My original goal was to drop it May 8th, but due to coronavirus forcing Princeton to evacuate everyone and therefore leaving me without access to a studio, I may have to push that back until the summer or fall, but rest assured it'll happen. I've been wanting to do this for years. :)Tetris?Yessir! I've been playing NES Tetris pretty much daily since the end of the summer. I'm not particularly good (yet); my PB is 438,100 with a level 18 start, but I can only play for ~10 lines or so at post-transition speed so don't expect any max-outs soon. :P Regardless, it's insanely fun!Cubing?Yes yes! I still really like cubing believe it or not. :P I have felt a slight lack of motivation recently, but more recently I've re-found quite a bit of it. I've actually got some pretty exciting things coming up soon that are cubing related (Pyraminx coaching? livestreams? we'll see :) ) that I can't wait to pursue further, so please stay tuned while I get it all sorted out!Coronavirus?I don't have it (as far as I know), but Princeton has taken some big precautions and I had to leave campus. #savefeet DGCubes 2019-11-05 | A bit of a long video, but there's a lot to discuss. This is a BIG decision for the community as a whole, so please make your voice heard! #savefeetSorry about the wacky audio at times; I filmed for over 50 minutes so my mic cut out a couple times and I had to use my phone's audio. Also sorry if the audio and video desync at a couple points. The editing software didn't like that the files were so huge and my workarounds resulted in a couple annoying desyncs.
