Timestamps:Totalitarianism is a colossal lieBalkan Odyssey2022-09-30 | Totalitarianism is seen as this key catalyst of the tragedies of the 20th century, as the spectre that had unleashed untold tragedies upon mankind, personified in these notorious totalitarian regimes. It’s supposedly malicious characteristics are tirelessly recited and regurgitated by all anti-communist crusaders alike, with Jordan Peterson as the central figurehead and “thought leader”, presented as incredibly profound revelations by freedom-loving people who reject tyranny, authority and supposedly cynical and naive attempts of establishing “heaven on earth” - attempts that will, according to them, inevitably summon hell.
In the following video essay, we shall examine these brave accusations by looking at the supposedly profound contemporary conceptions of totalitarianism including the comparison with religion, the allegations of utopianism, the phenomenon of personality cults and absolute power, conceptions of authoritarianism and the so-called horseshoe theory - culminating in an uncompromising conclusion about the true nature of this supposed totalitarian tyranny and exposing the uninformed, cynical and deceptive demaguery of it’s loudest proponents. @JordanBPeterson

This may very well be one of most divisive topics of the twenty-first century with the progressive emancipation of the LGBTQ population in the USA and Western Europe, increased corporate and institutional promotion, exposure in film and media and overall destigmatisation of the phenomenon.
So let us meander from conservative bigotry to liberal pseudo-progressivism and dissect the supreme taboo topic down to its tiniest details. So whether you refer to this as the “LGBTQYZ+- commonwealth” or as “pederluk”, this video essay may offer you some new insights into the curious world of queer emancipation and whether or not there is place for such “heresy” in our curious little part of the world - presented by someone who once upon a time used to be homophobic until I came to realise just how wrong I was.

►Music: Ergo Phizmiz - Open your headWhy is Communism so depressing and grey?Balkan Odyssey2022-05-31 | Peace, Land and Bread. This was the famous slogan promoted by Vladimir Lenin in the wake of the October revolution of 1917 in Russia - the Soviet world summed up in three words. Now contrast this with the slogan of the French bourgeois revolution of 1789 that proudly proclaimed Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite.
Notice any difference? If you ask me, it’s as if you’re looking at two different worlds, as if you can feel the different atmospheres of the two movements perfectly contrasting each other. The former embodies a seemingly cold, grey, boring and depressing world and the latter a vibrant world of hope, romance, prosperity and luxury. At least, that’s how it looks on the surface.

Having moved to Germany from Bosnia-Herzegovina in my teenage years, I’ve had my fair share of trips and visits back to the homeland, just like pretty much everyone who’s left family and friends behind in the pursuit of a better life. I’m sure many people can relate with this experience of departing into uncertain, uncharted territory and can vividly recall the precariousness and anxiety they experienced either as parents or as children in this context.
However, the story I wish to share today is not about the emotional toll or day-to-day struggles of people who were forced to emigrate - but rather a truly depressing sensation an observant traveler may experience in his journey from Germany to Bosnia-Herzegovina, a personal observation so striking that it lingered at the back of my mind for quite some time now and has compelled me to explore this phenomenon more closely.

A concept we all take for granted, as we all have a feeling that we naturally know what it entails. Selfishness, greed, a dose of corruption and malevolence when it comes down to taking care of your own ass. Those are the qualities that have allegedly shaped our societies throughout history, and continue to be the main traits of each and every human being - according to liberals and conservatives.
“But what about human nature?” - would be one of the first learned catchphrases deployed in opposition to the concept of communism, implying that humans could never be so selfless and community-oriented and that the concept of communism is therefore utopian, childish and naive. However, if we look through history more carefully - this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Al Marconi - AlchemyBalkan stereotypes are stupid (and dangerous)Balkan Odyssey2022-03-25 | When someone says the word “Balkan”, these are probably some of the things that the average person would associate with this rather mystical part of the world. With the turn of the century, the fall of communism and the barbaric bloodshed of the Yugoslav wars, the area of southeastern Europe has steadily acquired a refined new identity, an image that was intensely developed and promoted as time went on.
This very image has, through the expanding pop culture and internet meme culture, reached quite incredible notoriety, so that “Balkan” is nowadays, among natives and foreigners alike, the prime embodiment of oriental barbarism, craziness and hot temperament that is unique to this part of the world.

This video is part two of a two part series on privatisation made in collaboration with @YUGOPNIK - a fellow comrade from ex-Yugoslavia, whose channel is a source of incredibly insightful videos on a variety of economic, philosophical and cultural topics - from a marxist perspective.
This video will provide insights into the examples of privatisation - how it was used to recolonize Eastern Europe and the horrific consequences thereof. For a theoretical and philosophical analysis of privatisation, I strongly recommend watching Yugopnik’s video first and, while you’re at it - be sure to take a look at the rest of his fantastic content, which has played a huge role in my own political journey and which I cannot recommend more.

The ideas of marxism are often regarded as being naive and utopian. The people who pursue its conclusions are seen as juvenile idiots who don’t seem to grasp the harsh truths of the real world - caught up in a hopeless dream, trying to impose their utopian ideas onto the world. Pleas for radical change are regarded as infantile impulses, led by nothing but emotions and a hollow sense of justice and hyper-moralisation . We’ve all heard it - “If you’re not a socialist before you’re twenty-five, you have no heart; if you are a socialist after twenty-five, you have no head.” This is the most prevalent form in which these statements take shape and reflect the deep lack of understanding and engagement with actual political matter and theory, ironically reducing politics to impulsive cheerleading - where your sacred opinion on surface-levels cultural non-issues conveniently labels you a conservative or a liberal - with nothing acceptable in between or beyond.
Nonetheless, this video-essay will offer a concrete answer to the accusation that Socialism is Utopian - in a systematic, pragmatic manner. In order to do that, we must engage with the historical development and transformation of the concept of “Socialism” - its inception, theoretical expansion and practical implementation throughout the centuries - for Socialism is not a static, eternal, fixed concept, but rather an idea that has evolved in the heads and works of numerous intellectuals and which has, through the contributions of Marx and Engels, matured into a positive science, grounded in authentic material realities, observable and quantifiable through the scientific analysis of material conditions of human societies throughout history.

In this edition of Balkan Obsessions, in our quest of understanding the obsession with separatism, we will first tackle two isolated cases that perfectly showcase the troubles that appeared during the process of consolidating national borders in a region of unfinished ethnogenesis and unclear notions of nationality at that point in time.
We shall do this by firstly examining the relationship between separatism and irredentism on the example of Albanian statehood in a post-Ottoman world.
Then, by using this spatial context and understanding of the causes of reactionary separatism, we will attempt to extract the essence from the fuming separatist movements in the region of Ex-Yugoslavia, including Reublika Srpska, Herceg-Bosna and Sandžak, and how exactly hitherto unsolved national questions inevitably lead to tragic instances of ethnic cleansing.

War crime accusations are the main substance of most political and historical discussions among South Slavs. This region, notorious for its recent bloodshed and the consequently hostile atmosphere among its inhabitants is saturated with mutual allegations regarding these wartime atrocities. This includes the denial, belittlement, reciprocal accusation and in some cases glorification of war crimes. Communism is said to have killed over 100.000.000 people over the span of just 70 years. In modern political discourse, this claim is used as the main catchphrase against the supposedly brutal and authoritarian tyranny of socialism in the 20th century. - the first thing your fellow liberal or conservative will fire out when they hear the word “socialism” or “communism”. Like most other regurgitated anti-communist catchphrases, this one contains no intellectual honesty or coherent argumentation.
This monolithic number in particular can be traced back to the “Black book of communism: Crimes, Terror Repression” from 1997, which serves as somewhat of a criminal record of socialist states and is there to remind young leftists about the terrors of communism and why that system is destructive and outdated, hence making a passive-aggressive assertion that capitalism has no alternative, that we have reached the "end of history" and that all those who are looking for a systemic change at the foundations of our modes of production and social relations - are either confused wimps who live with their parents or malevolent lunatics.
In the second part of the video, I will present to you my own research and analysis, using similar, yet more honest logic and therefore conservative estimates, to calculate a comprehensive death toll of the capitalist system, as a comparison to the allegations which are thrown at socialism.
Therefore I’ve taken the liberty to try the impossible - to count ALL the deaths by capitalism since the industrial revolution to modern day.

The obsession with genetics and genealogy is a very prevalent phenomenon among Eastern Europeans. Yet there is something much more sinister than the innocent interest in one’s ethnic roots, something rooted within more serious political dogmas that covertly plagues the average Balkan mind.
At face value, there’s nothing inherently wrong with having an interest in the genetic makeup and origins of your ancestors. Yet when politically instrumentalized, this harmless interest turns into a dangerous obsession, one that inevitably leads to pseudo-scientific attempts at proving the supposed genetic supremacy of one given group over another, paving the path to tribalist and inevitably fascist narratives.
Autochthony is an incredibly fetishised word by Balkan contemporaries, often used to justify territorial claims- suggesting the endemic and indigenous character of the given nation. These claims are often pseudo-scientific and disingenuous in their nature, as the undeniable factual claims are injected with shaky evidence and outright lies - all with the mission to justify the connection between the said nation and some ancient indigenous group of tribes, whose genetic makeup is deemed superior to that of what’s officially associated with that nation.
In the following minutes, we will take a look at the plethora of origin theories which have materialised in this part of the world - some of which are officially accepted by the local academia and some absolutely insane ones, which were unsurprisingly turned into memes.

The year is 1941. The Kingdom of Yugoslavia had been invaded and now occupied by Axis powers. Its territories have been awarded to nazi allies and puppet regimes, with local fascist and anti-fascist movements rising from the rubble, either to collaborate with or fight against the occupators. The three infamous movements were the yugoslav Partisans, the serbian Chetniks and the croatian Ustase. In the following material, we will analyze and compare the actions, involvement and collaboration of the Ustase and the Chetniks - two ideologically related, yet inherently opposed ultranationalist movements, whose legacy continues up to this day, with many admirers and followers in modern day Serbia and Croatia. - with the communist Partisans as their common enemy.
The partisans, their origins, actions and involvement will be discussed in a separate video, as they are ideologically distinct from the aforementioned ethnonationalist movements and dont have the same fog of ideological and practical ambiguity which surrounds the Chetniks and the Ustase, who, in modern day discussions, often get compared for their atrocities.
Yet how comparable are the actions of these two movements really? How much do they genuinely have in common. How much did they really cooperate and whose interests did they truly represent? These are the controversial questions we will be exploring in the following minutes - so keep an open mind and remember that I, as the author of this video, do not endorse or prefer either of these movements, despite my Serbian origins.
