Discussion questions for Gift from the Sea:
Ice Breaker - What is your favorite literary genre and why?
1. How many stars would you rate Gift from the Sea and what was your experience reading the book?
2. What was your favorite quote or concept shared in Gift from the Sea?
3. Solitude and Simplicity are presented as prerequisites for a spiritual life lived in a state of grace. Did Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s thoughts on solitude and/or simplicity inspire you to plan for and achieve simplicity and/or solitude in your own crowded, 21st-century life?
4. On page 91, Anne Morrow Lindbergh writes, “My life will never become like this day — a perfect one plucked out of a holiday week, there are no perfect lives...one perfect day can give clues for a more perfect life — the mythical life.” She then goes on to describe her perfect day and reflect on what made it so wonderful. Did a piece of this day or a concept she shared speak to you? Did it inspire you to revamp a piece of your own daily routine?
5. Is this a book for our times, 35-40 years into the woman's movement? Does it speak to modern life—less or more so than when it was first written? What “gift from the sea” will you take away and apply to your own life?
