Irish Life Marathon Dublin 2025 - FINISH TIME: 2h:33min to 2h:55min (01)

If carsberg could do home comings
By God, what I witnessed today,
The support amongst our heroes
Our champions of the GAA
Thousands came together
Lining the streets to cheer,
And Limerick knows how to celebrate
And this has certainly been their year!
Four in a row for our legends
A city filled today with pride,
As we honour the Liam mccarthy cup
With - Green and white on every side.
A homecoming like no other
Definitely today was one of a kind,
The flow of all the supporters
And - The best view you ever will find.
Laughing singing and connecting
Everyone there for just the same
To stand up and say we’re from Limerick
And - Don’t you ever forget our name!
The pride we felt even watching on
Being present wasn’t needed at all,
When limerick blood runs through your veins
You are mighty, feirce and tall…
Beyond the congratulations
And the respect we have for you,
What a game, a team , a moment lived
To appreciate all that you do!
Our all of Ireland - hurling champions
And so worthy of absolutely everything,
A birds Eye view to remember
John kiely! Did you hear us sing?

The Pride of Bixby Marching Band from Oklahoma have been named as the overall winners of the 51st Limerick International Band Championship – Ireland’s only marching band competition.
For the second year running, the Limerick International Band Championship returned to the Henry Street route as the city streets were filled with the sound of beating drums, brilliant trumpet tones and rhythmic marching musicians from across the globe for what is a uniquely Limerick experience.
A 400-strong marching band from the University of Florida was amongst the 1,500 musicians who provided uplifting musical entertainment to thousands of spectators who braved wet weather to line the streets of Limerick. A total of 19 marching bands competed this year, five from the United States along with 14 other groups from Canada, Northern Ireland, Donegal, Dublin, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Westmeath.
The Pride of Bixby Marching Band was presented with the Kenneally Jewellers Perpetual Trophy as overall winners of the championship.
The winners were:
Overall Parade Champion- The Pride of Bixby Marching Band
Best International Band – Burlington Teen Tour Band
Best Youth Band – Grand View High School
Best Local Band – Newcastle West and District Band
Limerick International Band Championship 2023
Best Musical Performance – Banna Chluain Meala
Best Uniform – Clondalkin Youth Band
Most Entertaining Performance – The Friendship Band Northern Ireland
Best Pipe Band – City of Limerick Pipe Band
Special Judges Award (Best Drill) – Maghery Band Academy
Special Judges Award (Best Repertoire) – Boherbouy Brass and Reed Band
Special Judges Award (Pipe Band) – Killorglin and District Pipe Band
Cllr Olivia O’Sullivan, Cathaoirleach of Limerick City and County Council, said: “The bands are amazing. We love to see all the Limerick bands from the city and county and then also the bands that travel from around the country and abroad. There is a great international element to it. There’s a huge number of visitors in Limerick this weekend. You have the people involved in the bands and the people who have travelled with them. It’s amazing for Limerick. It’s pretty incredible, we are the only ones in the country who have the International Band Championship and you can see that the people of Limerick appreciate that as they turned out in large numbers despite the weather.”
As is now tradition, the competing bands performed at the reviewing stand for three minutes as part of the judging process with the winners announced during a free jamboree for the public at Arthur’s Quay Park following the competition.
Judging panel member, Brad Snow of Missouri State University said: “It was very difficult to choose an overall winner because the overall quality of all the bands keeps going up every year. It’s a good problem to have. This is so much more intimate than the other performance opportunities that these bands have across the country. Travelling internationally is all about building those connections with the local people and that’s what really sets this competition apart.”
The Limerick International Band Championship was part of the Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2023.

Elemental Tales is a promenade performance consisting of four multi-disciplinary performance pieces set in various locations within the Hunt Museum garden. The performance combines Slavic folk tales with Irish Fairy stories and draws parallels between the similarities of both traditions. The performers bring the characters to life through dance; storytelling, music and mask, here the Polish Arts Festival will take you on an imaginative journey through the four elements of Water, Air, Earth and Fire.

Tiger completed 36 holes at the J.P. McManus Pro-Am in Ireland and will spend the next week fine-tuning his game for St. Andrews.
Tiger Woods shoots 74 in Ireland, says he's ready for St. Andrews: 'I want to be able to give it at least one more run at a high level'
For years, Tiger Woods has answered questions regarding the state of his health as if it were a state secret. When an interviewer at the JP McManus Pro-Am asked him how his body is doing, Woods smiled and said, “Still attached.”
Woods dusted off the rust on his game by shooting 2-over 74 at Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland. That came a day after posting 5-over 77, which included one vintage moment for the highlight reel, a chip-in for eagle at 13.
Woods complained of jet lag but said he’s getting the right mix of rest and practice ahead of the season’s final major. It was immaterial that he finished two rounds in 17 more strokes than winner Xander Schauffele. All that mattered was he suffered no further injury.
Above all, it was good to see Woods swinging the clubs again, even if it was a hit-n-giggle exhibition where he had the use of a golf cart to limit the wear and tear on his back as he looks forward to the 150th British Open, which begins July 14 at St. Andrews in Scotland. The last time Woods played, at the PGA Championship in May, he limped home with a 79 in the third round and later that day withdrew from the tournament. Woods skipped the U.S. Open in June to give his body more time to heal.
“The plan was to play the U.S. Open, but physically I was not able to do that,” he said. “No way physically I could have done that. I had some issues physically with my leg and it would have put (the British Open) in jeopardy. There’s no reason to do that.”
He continued: “This is a pretty historical Open we are going to be playing. I’m lucky enough to be part of the past champions who have won there and want to play there again. I don’t know when they are ever going to go back while I’m still able to play at a high level. And I want to be able to give it at least one more run at a high level.”
Woods is twice a champion at the Old Course, having done so in 2000 and 2005. He kept possession of the winner’s Claret Jug for another year, by winning the title in 2006 at Royal Liverpool.
Woods noted that his legs are stronger now than they were at the PGA.
“That’s for sure,” Woods said. “I’ve been able to put in a lot more reps which is great. I still prefer riding in a cart. I’m doing that here only because I don’t need to push it right now. I’ve got a long week ahead of me and all of next week to do that. Save the legs. We can still train as hard as we do each and every day. But as far as duration on my feet, let’s try and keep that to a minimum until we have to. And then when we have to, let’s go.”
Woods isn’t taking any of it for granted – that he could even have a chance to compete again is a miracle in itself – after facing the possibility of having his right leg amputated following his serious one-car accident last February.
“It’s been worth it. It’s been hard. I’ve had some very difficult days and some days which moving off the couch is a hell of a task, and that’s just the way it is,” Woods said of the efforts to mend his body to play at the Masters and PGA. “I have my own two legs, which I tell you, I’m not going to take it for granted anymore, some people do. But people who have come close or lost a limb understand what I’m saying, but you have difficult days and also you have great days.”
Waiting on the 18th tee, Woods explained the challenge he’s endured to adjust his swing to the injuries he’s sustained.
“I’ve always been shallow, that to me is how I’ve always played,” he explained. “The problem is now with my body banged up, I can’t keep my weight on my left side. I have to stay back. I have to shift over here. That naturally puts me into a lower ball flight, but I need to be in a spinnier ball, which offsets me. So, I’m able to do it. If I go to a hard ball and I hit the same (shot), the ball is (expletive) outta here.”
Woods also confirmed that he wouldn’t be returning to the U.S. in between going to Scotland to give chase to a 16th major and fourth British Open title. But he was close to the vest as to where he would be finetuning his game in the lead-up to St. Andrews.
“I’m not going to tell you,” he said, “because I don’t want everyone coming out to watch us.”

25,000 people plus lined the streets of Limerick for Ireland’s only marching band competition After a gap of two years, the Limerick International Band Championship returned with 15 bands comprising around 800 musicians helping to lift the spirits of the more than 25,000 spectators who lined the streets of Limerick.
Bands from Limerick and across Ireland, the United States, the Netherlands, England, Northern Ireland, marched down Limerick city centre as part of the Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2022.
The band was presented with the Kenneally Jewellers Perpetual Trophy as overall winners of the championship.
The winners in the other categories were:
Best International Band – Toeternietoe Fest, Best, The Netherlands
Best Youth Band – Banna Cluain Meala, Clonmel, Tipperary
Best Local Band – City of Limerick Pipe Band
Best Musical Performance – Mullingar Town Band
Best Uniform – St Mary’s Fife and Drum Band, Limerick
Most Entertaining Performance – Friendship Band, Northern Ireland
Sammy Benson Award – Redemptorists Centre of Music Concert Band, Limerick
Special Judges’ Award (Colour Guard) – Cedar Rapids Metro Marching Band, Iowa, USA
Special Judges’ Award (Pipe Band) – Killorglin and District Pipe Band
Special Judges’ Award (Outstanding Instrumentalist) – Pyjama Band – lead trumpet player
Mullingar Town Band have been named as the overall winners of the 50th Limerick International Band Championship – Ireland’s only marching band competition.
Deputy Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Tom Ruddle said: “It was absolutely amazing, just exceptional musical talent on display. There was such high energy and high entertainment on show today. It was fantastic that we saw the return of the International Band Championship to the streets of Limerick. The people of Limerick came out in force again to support the bands.”
“Huge congratulations to all involved.”
Bands performed at the reviewing stand for three minutes as part of the judging process with the winners announced during a jamboree at Arthur’s Quay Park following the competition.
Performances at the 50th Limerick International Band Championship were judged by Captain Brian Prendergast, retired Irish Defence Forces, and Dr Evelyn Grant and Niall Carroll both from RTE Lyric fm.
The judge panel said: “The entire championship was really amazing, considering that these bands have been in a ‘deep freeze’ for the last two years. To have so many participants and in such great numbers, it was a really joyous occasion.”
“We knew the music would be good but the spirit of the festival was just extraordinary.”
“The crowd was in great form too, they really enjoyed the music.”
“One of the things that struck the judging panel was how marvellous the bands were. They really loved marching and performing and they were all so intergenerational, with one band having a seven-year-old pipe band major.”
Former members of the band led by Sammy Benson gave a special performance at the reviewing stand to honour the man who was synonymous with marching bands in Limerick. Sammy passed away in 2020, and this was the first time members of the band could gather to officially say goodbye.
The Limerick International Band Championship was part of the Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2022.
The Panoramic Wheel at Arthur’s Quay Park remains open until 21 April allowing you to soar above the city and take in the stunning 360 degree views across Limerick’s skyline on the spectacular 38 metre panoramic wheel. It’s sky-high fun for all the family.
