So if you like her work you'll like this one.The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde - Loved this, it's a gothic classic, Wilde's wit is unparalleled and I should have read it sooner!Small Things Like These by Clare Keegan - Way to ruin the festive mood with this read! Jokes aside it's a very powerful little book that sheds light on an atrocity of Ireland's recent history - The Magdelene Laundries!Film:Crash by David Cronenberg - Re-watch, still goodDream Scenario by Kristoffer Borgli - A rather hilarious film about a loser that goes viral after appearing in everyone's dreams. In the dreams, he does nothing because he's a man of inaction and kinda pathetic, but when he tries to take control in a situation everything flips and he is canceled after a change in public perception - check it out!Fire Walk With Me by David Lynch - You can wait for Twin Peaks Part 2 lolSaltburn by Emerald Fennell - Eat the Rich film made by a rich woman, kinda hilarious - especially Rosamund Pike's character. Not as shocking as everyone was making it out to be ahhahaha or am I just desensitised Afire by Christian Petzold - Such a fan of this man's work! I am still thinking about a particular moment at the end and it's haunting me. It tells the story of a writer who is a bit pretentious and serious so he misses out on a lot of fun while staying at a cottage in the German countryside. There is also a wildfire getting closer and closer and it's a meditation on global warming, desire, chances, and living in the moment...and more.See, Hear, Love by John H. Lee - A Japanese romance film about a man who loses his sight and a woman who is deaf. It was rather crap, unfortunately.The Three Musketeers: Milady by Martin Bourboulon - Eva Green, that's the review.Priscilla by Sofia Coppola - Elvis sucks, being a woman sucks and Coppola's cinematography is gorgeous. September book wrap up Cate Crafter 2023-10-07 | So I forgot to tell you about a couple of books because once the camera starts rolling, I forget everything ugh!I spoke a bit about this one last time: The Manningtree Witches - F***k Matthew Hopkins, the weasel b*****d! Blakemore has such a way with words, and I loved how the story unfolded - though the last few chapters dragged slightly. Can't wait to read her next book! Vulcan! - What a load of s**t! Watching Star Trek for the First time: Strange New Worlds & The Original Series 🖖 Cate Crafter 2023-08-12 | So I recently decided to start watching Star Trek, and let me just say I am obsessed!!!!!!!! So I started off with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds because it's the newest series, and the colourful and fun ads on TikTok (bravo to the Paramount + Social team) made me cave in and subscribe to Paramount + despite being annoyed at the existence of yet another streaming platform! Let me just say that it took less than 5 mins for me to be hooked! Then I had to go back to Star Trek: The Original Series because I love the 1960s and the vibe of sci-fi from that era - I'm sure I talk about Retro Futurism all the time. I love the campness, the costumes, the philosophical discussions, Spock's particular brand of sarcasm, Captain Kirk's weird fighting style and the random ways his uniform gets destroyed while everyone else comes off rather fine! LoveStar Book Review: Rampant capitalism and the death of Love Cate Crafter 2023-08-02 | LoveStar by Andri Snær Magnason is a weird and wacky Sci-Fi novel translated from Icelandic by Victoria Cribb. The book follows a couple, Indri and Sigrid, who love each other desperately until they are calculated apart by an algorithm (think Tinder but without free will), as well as the enigmatic LoveStar (CEO of LoveStar) as he searches for answers after commercializing literally everything in human existence (well there about anyways). March film & tv wrap up: Mandalorian, Infinity Pool, Antman, Succession + more! Cate Crafter 2023-04-06 | Tune in for all the Movies and TV shows I watched in March. On the film front, there are some classic French New Wave movies courtesy of Jean-Luc Godard, Scandinavian period dramas - one of which is based on the acclaimed book by Per Pettersen, the messed up whirlwind that is Infinity Pool and another bizarre film from Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi as well as the worst marvel film ever - Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania.Meanwhile, for TV, I've been gushing over Grogu, aka Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian and laughing my head off at Succession season 4 - ludicrously capacious may just be my new favourite phrase. I've also watched a brilliant Nordic Noir series called Face to Face, which has the biggest cast of Scandinavian actors ever; it would seem, like seriously, everyone is in this show. March reading wrap up 📚✨ Cate Crafter 2023-04-04 | This month I read books written by women, semi accidentally but also aware that March was Women's History Month here in the UK (I think I accidentally called the whole month International Women's Month when in fact, it is just a day (March 8th) rather than a whole month)The first book was A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Chinese-British author Xiaolu Guo, a smart witty look at life in England as a Chinese woman learning English. The second was Rest and Be Thankful by Welsh author Emma Glass, a fascinating dreamlike and emotionally raw look at a Paediatric nurse's struggle to balance her personal life with the unrelenting demands of the underfunded yet essential work she does in the NHS.The third is Passing by Nella Larsen, a 1929 classic of the Harlem Renaissance that follows two women with Black ancestry who can "pass" as White women in a society that is inherently racist and the dangers of this. Because that makes sense somehow.I read some fantastic books in February, including a mysterious horror, a hilarious Medieval Icelandic Saga where everyone is called Thor and Han Kang's latest book to be translated, just to name a few.I watched quite a few movies, and it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions from the heartbreaking The Whale and a devastating Holocaust drama to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Cédric Klapisch's latest film En Corps (Rise) and Netflix's Troll!TV shows were pretty much all Nordic dramas because I recently subscribed to Viaplay - so I watched Exit which is about 4 bankers in Norway who are despicable, Furia a drama about Fascist extremism in Europe, Jordskott a Nordic Noir meets dark Brother's Grimmesque fairytale and Valkyrien a medical drama with a dark twist.Essay:Sworn Sisterhood?
