As someone who has observed the beauty industry for the last ten years, here are some FASCINATING beauty facts I think people don’t realize that highly influence launch calendars. Brands might seem like the only innovators in beauty, but the real magic often happens behind the scenes with manufacturers and suppliers who partner with the brand and develop new technologies, create formulas, and source raw materials that brands use to then create their products. It’s the suppliers who are constantly researching and pushing for the next breakthrough, to meet the brands high expectations. This is not to say that brand don’t sometimes select or create and market what fits their identity. Retailers like Ulta Beauty or sephora also have a huge influence, using their sales data to spot gaps in the market—for example, seeing a spike in powder sales and signaling to brands that there’s a demand, prompting them to produce more powders. Fall2024 anyone? So while it looks like brands are leading the way, it's actually a dance between the innovation from suppliers, insights from retailers, and the brand’s ability to execute and create!
