Let Me Out MAP - Parts 18 and 19
updated
My second-year animated short film at CalArts. I couldn't have made this without the help of my wonderful classmates and voice actors!
Featuring Stephen Anderson as the Old Man
and Samuel Sutton as the Boy
The music and all animation was done by myself
Hope everyone enjoys!

This part is for this multi animator project: youtube.com/watch?v=MpyE2Pv0bNs
It was originally a Warrior Cats project, but was switched to feline original characters instead later on. I had a lot of fun animating this!
The cat was animated in TVPaint and composited with After Effects.
Enjoy!
This is my one week animated short film I made at CalArts for the first week of BFA2 classes. I never uploaded my BFA1 film on this channel, but I might later on...
The animation is about a cat who lives in a square world, but prefers to take a rounder shape. Our prompt that we had to follow for this film was "Square."
I didn't storyboard very much before heading straight into animating.
The animation was done in TVPaint, the backgrounds were painted in Photoshop and compositing was done using After Effects.
Enjoy!
But yes, I finally sat down and painted something and also recorded the process. It's nice to be back in business! Though I'll have to start college soon so I'll probably get busy again :/
Ah well. I will paint dragons for now and then get buried by art school assignments. I am thinking about maybe opening up art commissions again?
I also still have a couple of multi animator project parts that I have yet to upload so those will be on the way soon! And maybe if I find a cool thumbnail contest we can REALLY go back to tradition. That might be fun.
Music is low effort, sorry lol
This was a project for the end of high school. We had around a month (not really a month) to do basically whatever we wanted within reason as long as we submitted a proposal first to get approved. The pandemic hit so a lot of plans had to be changed, but luckily mine remained the same: I wanted to make a short film.
Given the short time span there's a lot in this film that was very rushed and a bit sloppy, but I'm still very proud that I managed to finish in time. I gained access to After Effects about a week in, so I taught myself the basics of the program around a week before it came time for me to actually use it on the film. This was my first time using After Effects!
It was also my first time trying to animate a horse. Not the best haha. But each shot was animated in less than a day so I didn't have time to revise! Oh well.
Anyways, I apologize for not having uploaded in four months! I have actually made a few MAProject parts in the meantime but I didn't know if they were good enough to upload on their own. I may make an animation reel soon.
Thank you all for the support.

so I won't.
Finished this a while ago and just now realized I never posted it publicly! Whoops
for: deviantart.com/worldofgalagus
The art was done by Yessys - deviantart.com/yessys
(I only did the animation)
Music commissions are still closed at the moment - this one was from a while ago.
The art was commissioned from a user named Lehyen - only the music is made by me.
Music commissions are currently closed since I want to catch up on my ongoing ones before I take on any more. Sorry!
-
Next week's video will likely be another music commission video. I apologize for not posting many animation and speedpaint videos recently - most of the animations I've done are too short for a whole video, but I'm working on a MAP part at the moment so that's exciting!

I started this painting on January 2, but only finished it today since I was busy with other things. It took 2.5 hours to complete, but I didn't spend as much time on it as I would have liked to - the wing anatomy, the detailing, etc. aren't as polished as I would have preferred. Still, hope this got the message across that I'm still improving, and excited to continue my artistic growth!
Looking forward to next year!
If I add this technique as a commission type, it'd be really expensive to justify the amount of work it takes. Just going by minimum wage prices that'd be like $70, which compared to my other commission prices might be a *bit* much at the moment. I'll have a price raise for all prices eventually though, probably pretty soon seeing as my last one was July of 2017!

This took a while but I experimented a lot with the way I animate on this one. I did bluescreening in the background, loads of lipsync changes and the shading was different. I'm happy with how it turned out though.

This is a fan-made soundtrack-esque orchestral piece based on Legends: Darkstalker.
This piece specifically is meant to be in the same vein as Darkstalker's and Clearsight's themes. In Darkstalker's Theme, you can hear a part of Fathom's theme. The three pieces are a trio.

I'm in love with MAP thumbnail contests, that's what.
In all seriousness, these are just really fun to do. You get to experiment with some stranger imagery and text effects, and you can really push yourself to be creative.
You have to constantly be thinking about how something will look when it's super small. I don't thumbnail often for my paintings. Ironically enough, I don't even thumbnail for my thumbnail paintings.

Anyway, I was actually wanting to do this contest before RAIEB (though obviously I'm SUPER glad I did RAIEB even though I didn't win). The designs are awesome, and the color scheme is gorgeous.
Enjoy!

The parts I've seen so far have all been jaw-dropping. It's probably one of the most well-animated MAPs I've ever seen!
---
This was a three-day process, meaning I divided up the work over three days (not that I literally spent 72 hours on it). The footage shown isn't the only work I did; a lot happened in between the cuts (there are two if you want to try and find 'em), and each cat took over an hour to paint. I did one cat each day.
Heck, Little Breezepelt got plenty of plastic surgery between cuts.
And yes, I changed the text placement in between creating the video and uploading it because I overlooked where the time stamp would be placed.
The final time count is probably more like 4+ hours given how much of it happened "off-screen."
- In case you're wondering what brush I use for the fur: I use Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, which comes with a Synthetic Coarse Angular brush in the Synthetic Paint default set. It's great for fur!

My entry for the thumbnail contest!
(Also known as "Sarcastic has color struggles")
This is shaping up to be an amazing MAP so far, from what I've seen of the parts! Can't wait till it's finished!
And yeah, I know I missed dead-Scourge's white chest markings in the speedpaint. I actually went in and fixed that in the final version after this video was made. To be honest, it didn't make much of a difference anyway because of how shadowy that part is.

This was super frustrating to master. I tried to get most of the distortion out while also maintaining a reasonable volume. Hopefully, this is good enough, though!

Peril is a character from the book series Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland.
The first drawing of her was the first drawing of a dragon I ever did with Sketchbook Pro. Now, the second is the product of one year of improvement.

Characters (ordered by appearance):
- Darkstalker (Wings of Fire)
- Clearsight (Wings of Fire)
---
This has to be my most ambitious MAP part yet. It took around three weeks of heavy work drawing Darkstalker, then Clearsight, then their arms, then their full bodies, etc. The animation was probably the easiest part, and that's saying something.
I utilized Darkstalker falling asleep to change the style of the art to an almost chalkboard look, with white sketch lines that I wouldn't have to color. This made the animation a bit easier, while also giving the viewer a change to indicate Darkstalker's unconsciousness.
So I decided to make a looping animation to go along with the song!
Enjoy!
This is a fan-made soundtrack-esque orchestral piece based on Legends: Darkstalker.
This piece features three main melodic leading instruments, each meant to represent one of the book's three main characters: Darkstalker, Clearsight and Fathom, represented by an electric guitar synth, a celesta and a whistle.
