Throughout the writing of this piece I aimed to illustrate the process of creation, hence the title.Written for an unusual combination of clarinet, contrabass, cello, viola, and violin, handiwork tells the story of a single musical motif that emerges from a sort of βprimordial musical soupβ as a weak and formless call from the clarinet. As the piece progresses, this motif molds, crafts, and by the end of the piece, asserts itself.I make heavy use of extended techniques (including, but not limited to string harmonic tremolos, and clarinet multiphonics and air sounds) not only to highlight the importance of experimentation when creating art, but also (and more importantly), because they sound cool.SPECIAL THANKS:I want to thank the Philadelphia Ballet for granting me this opportunity back when I was in high school, and to my friends in the University City Chamber Collective for bringing handiwork to life once again.

I recently purchased Spitfire Symphony Orchestra and wanted to try it for a spin, and, of course, I had to choose a track from my favorite series. βOnce There Were Dragonsβ wraps up the series musically with a neat little bow, reprising themes heard throughout the trilogy.Produced in around 40 working hours, this is one of my proudest mockups.
