*Nemes, Borsanyi & Kende, Berecz and Vass are kadarist revisionist authors. They correctly describe the successes of the first 3 years of the Five Year Plan but falsely accuse the increased plan targets of being ultra-leftist and causing problems. This topic will be covered when we start discussing the rise of Hungarian revisionism.

1:03 Was religion invented to control people?
5:17 How did religion emerge? How did it evolve?
16:40 Different classes see religion differently
19:01 How will religion disappear?
23:41 How should communists act towards religious people?
I would have discussed the policies of Socialist governments towards religion but the video would've simply gotten too long. I will discuss that topic in a future episode in my series on the Hungarian People's Republic.

This episode discusses:
- the unification of the Social-Democrats and Communists in Hungary
- the treacherous career of the Right-Wing Social-Democrats
- theoretical issues related to the merger
------------------
This video is quite heavy on theory. There are a lot of quotes from Rakosi's theoretical articles and speeches. Hopefully you'll find it interesting, its a very important topic.
I briefly mentioned the “peaceful path” to socialism. To clarify: the “peaceful path” is not a universal or common phenomena, but was related to the very specific and even exceptional conditions of Hungary at the time. It also should not be understood as a “peaceful growing of capitalism into socialism” without a revolution, without the smashing and overthrow of the bourgeoisie. The "peaceful path" in this context only meant a successful socialist revolution without a violent uprising and civil war.

This episode discusses the Hungarian 1947 election. In the elections communists emerged as the largest party with 22% of the vote. The coalition government continued in power. The smallholders had previously split so their vote was reduced to 15%. The smallholder party was taken over by leftists and they supported the government coalition, while two right-wing groups split from smallholders and created new parties: the neo-fascist party of Pfeiffer, and the religious party of Barankovics.
The opposition parties won around 30% and the government coalition around 60% of the vote. The other government parties (national peasants, social-democrats and smallholders) had shifted to the left and accepted the most important parts of the communist program. The fact that the government coalition received more than 60% of the vote, meant that a majority of the population supported socialist policies, such as the Three Year Economic Plan and nationalization of banks and industries, which were advocated by all government parties, and especially by the communists.

Chapter 5 deals with the question of leaders. The German "Left-Communists" (influenced by Erler, Pannekoek etc.) claimed that the movement shouldn't have leaders but only "the masses" and it should build a dictatorship of the class "not of the party". Some of them went so far that they claimed all parties are bourgeois, and communists should not have parties.

Pirkkala educational pilot program. The sources give completely warped anti-communist analysis, but the program was one example of the how Finnish educators looked to socialist countries (Eastern Europe, USSR and China) for models. The anti-communist lies against this program are entirely the work of one capitalist historian J. Leskinen.

Most Finnish schools are old (built in the 50s). Since the 90s the repairs and maintenance have been totally neglected "to save money" which had led to the schools becoming rundown, dilapidated and infested with poisonous fungi & mold. The true number is unknown but as many as 20% of Finnish schools might have dangerous mold infestations which results in renovation that costs millions, or the school being demolished. So much for "saving money".

Due to lack of class rooms many classes have been combined into "giant classes" of as many as 100 students IN ONE ROOM. Such class rooms also have 2 or 3 teachers, but sometimes due to lack of teachers many classes of 20 students have been combined to classes of 40 or 60 with only 1 or 2 teachers. ABOUT MY SOURCES:
Almost all my sources are established “respectable” anti-communist/pro-capitalist mainstream historians. The only exception is that I cite 2 books by Hungarian communist historians: one by Nemes and the other by Borsányi & Kende. Burchett is also a journalist with communist sympathies.
The facts I present here can be considered very reliable, because they are confirmed both by pro-communist and anti-communist sources. I chose to cite mostly anti-communist historians, since they obviously have no bias to lie on behalf of communism. This way the information should be acceptable to non-communists.
That said, capitalist historians are dishonest and biased against communism, so I typically don't recommend any of them. The only non-communist book on this topic I can recommend is “Revolution in Eastern Europe” by Doreen Warriner, it is both objective and well researched, with lots of emprical data. The other non-communist history books are extremely flawed, I had to verify everything I quoted from them from multiple sources and make sure it was true.
Nemes, Borsányi & Kende are not perfect either, they are kadarist revisionists. I agree with the facts I quoted from them, but not necessary with everything they might say.
At the end of this series I will probably make an episode where I discuss the research process and the sources in detail.
Music clips are from "Concerto for Orchestra", "Viola Concerto" and "Violin Concerto no. 2" by Béla Bartók, "Années de pèlerinage II 'Canzonetta del Salvator Rosa' S.161 Andante marziale" by Franz Liszt, "Hazatérés Concerto", "In Fury Rose the Ocean - Oratorio: VI, Hungarians will now triumph I am sure" and "Vallomás" by Ferenc Szabó, "Tábortűznél" by Lajos Bárdos and "Honvéd kantáta" by Endre Szervánszky
[Correction: I said people have existed for 1-2 million years. Its actually longer then that, maybe even 4-5 million years. The earliest known Australopithecus is from 4.2 million years ago, which apparently already produced stone tools. The genus Homo appeared more then 2 million years ago]

[Very good article, which brought many primary source documents to my attention. The article propagates erroneous Trotskyist views but luckily they have practically nothing to do with the topic of Kronstadt and can thus be ignored.]

*Avrich provides a lot of useful factual information, however he is pro-anarchist. He sees the Kronstadt mutiny as a tragedy which could never have succeeded but he sympathizes with it. Despite everything he tries to deny that the mutiny was orchestrated by the Whites. He admits that the Kronstadt mutineers collaborated with Whites, Monarchists, Capitalists, foreign powers, Mensheviks and SRs but basically claims “that doesn't matter”. His book is from 1970 when the archives were still closed. For that reason he relies quite heavily on dishonest Menshevik and Anarchist sources which have nothing to support their claims, and often he takes Petrichenko's words at face value. He also doesn't understand Marxism and therefore distorts it. Perhaps it was impossible to publish in American academia unless one reached an anti-bolshevik conclusion? Still he deserves credit for his discoveries.
In this video we mostly focus on the topics:
-main stages in the development of Bolshevism
-revolutionary period and reactionary periods
-different strategies for different periods
