I want to start by saying I absolutely DO NOT hate the ending of g l e e! I thought the ending was perfect for the show, and I loved it, but this is just how I would have liked the show to end, had circumstances turned out differently. It's inspired by Rachel's speech to Will in 5x03 about how she had her life with Finn all planned out.

So, for anyone who doesn't know, the final season of the show covered how Rachel moved on after being fired from her TV show. She moved home and she and Kurt (who'd broken off his engagement to Blaine) took over the g l e e club. The season followed them as they coached the club to success at Nationals, and then the finale showed how their lives changed over the next 5 years. Rachel became a broadway star, Kurt and Blaine married and had a child, and everyone reunited for one last performance in the new auditorium dedicated to Finn's memory (he died in season 5).

So, on to the parts I've changed for this AU. I've only altered Rachel's storyline, and a bit of Kurt and Will's for this video, as I wanted to make an ending with Finn in it. Everything else that happened in canon season 6 (Brittany & Santana's engagement, Sheldon's transition, Brittana & Klaine's wedding [you can decide whether or not Klaine broke up still in this AU], etc) and in season 5 (except Finn's death, in this AU he rejoined the army) still happened. I tried to edit it as a full season, spanning a school year, hence the titles for what month it is. I tried to make nationals and the Tonys fit in with what month they are in real life.

So basically, the storyline of my alternate season 6 is: Finn comes back from the army (where he has been since he disappeared at the end of season 4) and comes to see Will, who is now principal of McKinley high. Finn tells him the army didn't work out, and Will decides to get him to help Kurt with coaching the g l e e club. Kurt introduces Finn to the new kids and they perform for him. At Brittany and Santana, and Kurt and Blaine's wedding, Finn and Rachel reconnect when they perform a song for the happy couples, but Rachel has to go back to New York, as she is the new lead in a revival of Spring Awakening. Finn is there on her opening night. Finn and Kurt successfully get New Directions to Nationals and they win! The McKinley gang (including Finn) watch on TV as Rachel wins a Tony award. She took Kurt to the ceremony with her. After winning, Rachel returns home to Lima and tells Finn "I'm home". They kiss, and then go to the auditorium for one last song with all their friends.

I chose this song, because it's one of my favourites, and it's also the last song of season 5, which is the point I could rewrite from.

Rachel: "I had it all planned out. I was gonna make it big on Broadway, and then when we were ready I would just come back and he would be teaching here and I would say 'I'm home' and we would live happily ever after."

Will: "What happened to the army?"
Finn: "It didn't work out"

Kurt: "For all of you who don't know, this is Finn Hudson. Finn and I are gonna be working together as a team."

Announcer: "The New Directions!"

Andrew Rannells: "The Tony goes to Rachel Berry!"
Rachel: "I wanna thank all of my friends at McKinley high. To all of the boys and girls out there..."

FLASHBACK: "Being a part of something special makes you special"

Rachel (cont): "...Being a part of something special does not make you special, something is special because you are a part of it. Thank you!"

Finn: "Rachel?"
Rachel: "I'm home!"
