Nightwolf Theory TAS 6:23behemoth872026-09-23 | Nightwolf Theory TAS 6:23Turok 2 Remastered - Any% NMG - Hardcore 1:03:48 [WR]behemoth872024-03-19 | The 1:03 happened a lot easier than expected, so I want keep trying to see where it can go. I PBd before this in the same stream which was a 1:04:05. I got a bit mad at livesplit for no reason here. I forgot to split Lair at the right time and then also thought I missed a whole bunch of splits when i didn't. My only display is my phone and the splits are tiny.Turok 2 Remastered - Any% NMG - Hardcore 1:04:33behemoth872024-03-15 | First run I've been happy with since returning to the game. It's been a lot of fun and satisfying to run this again after 7 years, implementing all the new tricks and generally better movement across the board since my 1:15:38 from 2017. The first major improvement comes from this being the latest patch which was released not that long after, where some 6+ mins can be saved just from skipping cutscenes. The rest of the time save is from smoother gameplay and some huge skips that were found. I plan to keep running this for a little bit as there was a sketchy ending to the River of Souls and my late game got sloppy in places, particularly menuing for the backtrack part. Not going to say what's the limit exactly but certainly 1:03 seems within reach. We'll see where we end up.Super Metroid 100% 1:12:24, 41 In-Game timebehemoth872024-01-31 | This is probably my last 100% run I'll ever do unless something big gets found that can drop the time by a lot (No not 1round phantoon, sorry). This was a grueling grind, the hardest to date. I really couldn't get away with a lot of mistakes in order to achieve this. My goal was a :2x and the 41 in-game time. Both of those were sort of inevitable with any new pb to emerge but, being a WR too was triple sweet of course. 1:11 is obviously possible but it would take a monumental effort with current strats. Here's a short list of the good and the bad.
The good: -Solid early game/Phantoon door time 20:12 -Fast Mid/20:46 kill -Nice Ridley kill despite bad pattern -All late game post LN was very good -Generally no terrible segments, even the worst ones never fully upset the flow or the mood of the run to make it fall apart. Positivity kept me above water so to speak.
The bad: -Spiky room of death return misshap -Missing the first robot at bowling, probably the single worst mistake in the run. Whole section beneath spikes was bad totalling 7 second loss. -Missing dboost out of Pink Brin Hoppers room, making me mess up the super shot afterward. -Missing Blockbuster. -Missing Fish Tank return jump -Missing Beach Air Ball -Draygon bad pattern. Mitigated the time loss slightly by opting to skip the farm as I had a decent amount of supers. -Missing Hotarubi Special, didn't really recover it properly.A very good attempt with slow midbehemoth872023-12-14 | This was world record pace /1:12:2x pace with a slow mid. Very good run. Only Maridia post Draygon was on the sucky side and the world record was officially lost when i got the double whammy of being unable to do 2 cry due to MB's "good" cutscene position and missing a charge and forcing a 2nd ketchup. A combined total of probably 8-9 seconds lost so world record was tight regardless, since zeb skip needed a backup and a minor mistake in the parlor during escape.Super Metroid 100% 1:12:31behemoth872023-12-08 | Very nice run with a lot of key moments good and bad. Being on potential wr pace at the very end was nothing more than a pleasant surprise so I didn't have any gripes about not getting it as my focus was just to pb. There's 3 segments I can capitalise on the most in future runs. Space Jump and Musky Missiles both being 11-12 seconds off my golds, along with the short and comparatively easier Plasma segment being 5 seconds off.
The good: Fast fast Phantoon and my best kill time to date with 2045 (edit-new best is 2042) Won the sexmaster lottery. Clutched out Dray spike suit despite not getting blue suit Gold X-ray segment Entirety of late game post Musky missiles was strong + Tourian being close to gold
The bad: Robot room disaster, lost 8.5 seconds. Poor Space Jump + Plasma segments. Draygon slow pattern (not my fault but notable time loss, 3-4 seconds). GT mistake with missile management inducing a swipe, losing time + opportunity for more supers. Following on from above, ninja pirates really stingy, had to fall back on 21+6 Ridley fight. Missing out on opportunity for 4-6 second faster fight.Super Metroid 100% 1:12:36behemoth872023-11-20 | Satisfying PB. A few runs recently were close to pb with slow mids so to finally pb with an equivelent mid slow is nice. This is the main bulk of my remaining time save. The other slightly smaller one is missing Draygon spike suit and then bonking the door entering Aquaduct so the Plasma split probably has around at least 7 seconds to save? There are a few sloppy mistakes still of course like the rubble clearance after Phantoon. Looking forward to running against this now as the Gravity split isn't so punishing, along with that generous maridia time save. It also felt good to get my best ever early game segment to Phantoon, golding my PB's split by 2 seconds, bringing my sum of best down to 11138 and arriving at Phantoon door with 2010.Super Metroid 100% 1:12:41behemoth872023-08-15 | Didn't think i could pb this big so soon. This was a WR by nearly a full second but is still a 1:12:41 in my eyes. There was some persuasion that it could be a :40 though. Thank you guys for frame checking everything you know who you are! What can i say really just a very strong run. fast fast, full composure. I had been having major issues with spring ball baby skip so decided just earlier in the stream to start Stashio skipping. Right at the very end I failed to shoot the landing site door and lost probably 2 seconds and prevented the :3x, oh well. But yeah fun times indeed!Super Metroid Any% KPDR old route in 42:14 (World Record)behemoth872023-07-04 | Super happy with finishing this category for now with a time a bit lower than I expected to get. This is a strange run where I didn't put together a clean segment at the start (up to bombs) but then played really well to Phantoon and won a lot of time back. With those kind of paces a medicore set of patterns (fast/slow) is good enough to run away with and try and pb which thankfully this did comfortably. This is also one of those weird pbs where unfortunate and uncharacteristic mistakes occurred here and there which admittedly do irk me and only go to show what could have been rather than something to gloss over, for me anyway: Missing fish tank jump, messing up Botwoon slightly, shooting Ridley's tail made me have to force another swoop. From Ridley kill to the ship - while no golds - was very strong and probably the highlight of the run as far as lengthy period of gameplay goes. There was also a close call at Phantoon narrowly missing getting tagged from both Phantoon and the flames and almost being too close to pull off the final air doppler. The Metroid skip being turned into a 4 jump is probably the least satisfying part of the run since I've been very consistent at 3 jump. It was another close call where the lag was so intense and could've easily forced me to jump early and ride the wall trying to escape. Glad I focused there. Sometimes a pb is more memorable for its mistakes and rollercoaster moments than its actual time. Guess I can live with this!Super Metroid Any% KPDR old route in 42:20behemoth872023-06-22 | Crazy consistent run with a slow mid. Containing a fairly big Ceres PB and a huge 4 second gold at Ridley. Just some issues in WS after phantoon and much later on backtracking to G4. A small mistake in escape parlor and no landing sight luck prevented the 42:19 which is my goal but chances are I wouldn't be satisfied with that. My ideal run is to play just as good along with netting a favourable set of Phantoon patterns to 'comfortably' get the 1x.Super Metroid Any% KPDR old route in 42:22behemoth872023-04-27 | This might be my best run at this game so far, especially with a slow-fast Phantoon which you could consider merely average. Only failing to get Plasma spark irks me a little while all other mistakes were minor. It's possible I try to beat this soon and I'll be using a small handful of timesaves and hopefully get a tad more lucky with Phantoon to try and get this down to a 42:1x. For me this run/route has a lot of history and prestige associated with it so getting this was very rewarding to come full circle and attack it with all the knowledge and experience after many years with this game. Big shoutouts to zoasty for setting the bar so incredibly high.Super Metroid KPDR 42:29behemoth872023-04-06 | This barely even registers as a pb and it's probably like a 42:29.97 by my estimate. I noticed the :29 was on the table in the final room but then felt that it just ended up a :30 on the final input. Thanks to Eddie and Co for making me look into it. The whole sequence after Plasma was terrible and then Ridely made me explode with some rage, apologies for that. Shoutouts also to, "this can't pb" and, "i'm not uploading this".Super Metroid KPDR Any% 42:30behemoth872023-03-24 | 1 second pbs aren't normally a cause for celebration for me but this one has taken a while so it felt good to break the ice with this. Not much to say here, just a good run and it beat the previous pb with an inferior set of phantoon patterns (mid-fast vs fast-fast). This was world record pace in Tourian and while it was a good Tourian overall there's a couple of things you can point the blame to for this not making it: Zeb skip being as unruly as ever, having to wait to shoot MB1 due to the turret, MB 3 shot misses/bad fight end position, parlor mistake.Super Metroid KPDR Any% 42:31behemoth872023-02-25 | Pretty unreal this happened so soon. Got fast fast and actually managed to contain the nerves and play for once. it didn't hurt that Phantoon's drops were decent. Draygon here gave me the slow pattern again which is 3-4 seconds loss and I also failed to get either blue/spike suit, having to womple jump Colloseum and lose another 5 seconds. Everything else was pretty damn spicy especially Tourian.Super Metroid KPDR Any% 42:42behemoth872023-02-23 | The second of the back to back pbs. It was both astonishing to do this run at all so quickly but also just how calm i felt doing it. As the run unfolded I was being reminded of all the things that I was doing better than the :46 and as a result feeling empowered by the time saves won along the way. The pace after Ridley was quite staggering yet unfortunately I tripped over a few times leaving LN and Tourian left a bit to be desired. I really want to go for a 423x now.Super Metroid KPDR Any% 42:46behemoth872023-02-23 | The first of the back to back pbs. Was playing in the fading afternoon light so the room got all dark. Was a fantastic day of runs. Something to note, MB did this weird ketchup cancel when there should have been a 2nd one. Definitely not complaining about that but it most likely helped secure the 4x.Super Metroid KPDR Any% 42:56behemoth872023-02-02 | There was a minor pb from several days ago of 42:58 but i never uploaded it. So I'm running against those splits here and not the 42:59.
Not a whole lot to report on this run. It's reassuring to get this time with some quite nasty time losses in a handful of places, like fish tank, wasteland speed ball, plasma spark room and other stuff. Can at least see a pathway to a relatively comfortable 42:4x and a more brutal 42:3x.Super Metroid KPDR Any% (Classic route) 42:59behemoth872023-01-23 | My first 42. Been back on this route for about a month already but haven't been able to commit to it as much as possible due to other commitments and coming down with a nasty cold/flu after New Years. Previously I had a 43:07 a few weeks back and prior to that from a few years ago a 43:13. Both were not uploaded.
This is the first run of KPDR from myself that I can say felt half decent. 42 is quite the challenge and feels somewhere in the ballpark of trying to get a 41:2x or thereabouts in PRKD. The skill ceiling is arguably higher in this too, at least in terms of movement and high speed tech. The tradeoff perhaps is that PRKD specializes in boss fight skill with a slightly lower emphasis on movement skill. Both qualities are desirable of course. I would like to try and get this to 42:4x before deciding what to do next.Super Metroid GT Classic 32:16 WRbehemoth872022-12-11 | It took a while but got there in the end. Just felt fearless doing this run. Only until Tourian really did the nerves ramp up a bit. I'd also only gone live a few minutes prior and went straight into this run, however I was still partially warmed up from offline practice 1-2 hours earlier. This was a fantastic run but a few things that bug me were Ridley being poor yet again and the Dray to Phan segment had quite a few costly mistakes. I'm 100% certain that if I was to grind this for several more months I'd get this down to 32:0x but this will do for now.Super Metroid GT Classic 32:21behemoth872022-11-16 | Couldn't ask for a better run at this stage, with rng on my side and no major mistakes creeping in. The stream as a whole was incredible. The 21 game time was a real icing on the cake Thank you everyone!Super Metroid GT Classic 32:35behemoth872022-11-05 | First PB using the 1 Energy Tank lavadive strat. This is a really brutal strat that uses a kago from the Namihe for i-frames instead of the highly damaging fireball. You have to first get inside with an initial kago, then precisely time a jump + turnaround for a 2nd kago before downgrabbing and wall jumping away. This took a while to really lock in. Shoutouts to Decalled for his great idea to intentionally get health bombed by Kraid which gives you a higher chance of making it to the lavadive without excess farming.
Good parts: 1 ET Lavadive Clean GT to Ridley Good Ridley Clean Ridley to Draygon Got Foosball lol Clean Tourian
Bad parts: Bad early game/Varia split No spike suit Off screen Phantoon Microwave kill Very bad reverse Ocean/G4 split.Super Metroid GT Classic 32:40behemoth872022-10-28 | Earlier in the stream I did a 32:47 which had a slow phantoon and no spike suit. In that run I golded Tourian and did it 12 seconds faster than my previous pb 32:44. So this 32:40 is a little underwhelming for me to only save 5 seconds in Tourian. I flubbed my movement hard in room 1 and a bit in room 3 and not having supers for MB1 also sets you back a few seconds. These splits might feel a lot worse to run against now since it had 1st try lava dive and a better early game overall. Still a nice pb regardless!Super Metroid GT Classic 32:44behemoth872022-10-26 | A few weeks back into SM with this category. This run came out of nowhere and included a lava dive room reset of all things which isn't terribly uncommon of course. Despite the many golds the run started off pretty badly and ended a bit weak as well so there's still lots to improve. An eye opening run for the time it got in spite of these issues.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, No out of bounds speedrun in 1:27behemoth872022-10-21 | 1:51:40 real time. First 1:27 game time.
Pretty good run. Below is a roundup of the things that stood out to me the most but of course there were many more strong and weak points in the run. I'm certainly capable of a 1:50 (1:26?) but I'm probably done with this for a while.
Positives - Good early game pace Didn't utterly choke Chykka Great Dark Samus 2 Great Quadraxis Didn't get puddled to oblivion on Emperor 2 Clean Dark Samus 3/4 Generally no major failures resulting in catastrophic time losses.
Negatives - Back to back Light Beam and Super Missile segments were poor. 1st phase of Chykka - Adult was a scam 2nd attempt Seeker Missiles air ball escape 3rd attempt Abyss Boost jump 3rd room of Spider Guardian went horribly. Some struggles during STK cleanup Minor choke on Emperor 1 due to spotting a 10x missile drop above me and got greedy and dashed to the left by mistake.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No out of bounds in 1:28 (5 second pb)behemoth872022-10-04 | 1:52:32 real time. Went back to Normal difficulty for a bit as Hard mode Boost Guardian was starting to kill all my runs. This was also an offline run since my internet has been bad of late. Kind of a surprising PB to squeeze out at the end after dipping into the red there. Emperors 1 to 3 were good. Still plenty to work on again like the Chykka fight and the last phase of Quadraxis has apparently broken. Also need to get better at a couple of rooms that went badly. This run is more like a 2x as there were a couple of accidental pauses. 1:51 seems like the ideal "limit" for me given my current strats and commitment - hopefully that's also a 1:27 game time. Will aim for that before returning to Hard mode.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Hard - No out of bounds 2:01:28behemoth872022-09-23 | It was a 1:37 game time strangely, while the 2:02:13 was a 1:36. I really don't like that game time is prioritized on the leaderboard. Anyway this pb sort of broke a little wall I had, being unable to finish a good run for a while. Dark Samus centering and other new ways to choke a good run presenting themselves. Despite the setbacks I generally feel much better at this run as a whole and the pb finally proves it. This run set a great pace starting out but it definitely lost its way as it got deeper into Agon. The "first time Boost Guardian kill or reset" became my modus operandi so each run that achieved this usually put me at a 1-2 minute lead. It all became a matter of maintaining it. There was a large setback in the Fortress getting scammed on the pb drop which cost me 30 seconds, the STK cleanup was generally quite poor and all 3 Emperor phases were pretty bad. Luckily DS cooperated with an amazing 5 screw attack kill. Good pb but not at all the finished article.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Hard - No out of bounds 1:36behemoth872022-08-22 | 2:02:13 real time. Once again died to Boost Guardian but decided to continue on an otherwise better run than last time. I really should aim for first time kill or reset now if i want to edge closer to my goal of sub 2hr, since dying there loses in the region of 90 seconds +. A small highlight of this run is utilizing the screw attack method for the last phase of Quadraxis which basically removes a vast majority of the RNG associated time loss.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Hard - No out of bounds 1:37behemoth872022-08-15 | 2:02:51 real time. Solid improvement over previous PB despite dying to Boost Guardian. This means the run is sort of invalid as far as game time goes unfortunately but I personally favour real time over game time anyway, of which I still pb'd by over 2 minutes with many gold segments. It's really a bit of a coin toss whether you succeed in the Boost Guardian fight or not so the goal now really is to do a deathless run and keep most things the same.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Hard - No out of bounds 1:40behemoth872022-08-01 | Previous pb 2:08:22. I tried to upload it but it got stuck on processing, Dark Samus centered me badly costing me 3 minutes on that run.
This run is 2:04:58 real time. A run of two halves: Bad 1st half, good but not great 2nd. Only pbd by a huge margin due to not being centered quite so aggressively this time. It still happened right at the end when DS had an inch of health. That still cost me an entire minute and prevented sub 2:04Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Hard - No out of bounds 1:44behemoth872022-07-30 | Done on 24th July. Real time 2:09:04. My first completed speedrun of Hard mode No out of bounds. I'll be uploading each pb as and when. This was quite a low hanging fruit as only a few runs existed on the leaderboard. Taking all the acquired knowledge and consistency from the Normal difficulty runs I was able to get a WR by nearly 40 minutes. One of the big strategies for this run was continuing to skip Dark Suit which is an enormous timesave. The Boost Guardian however is the true boss of this category and many runs can and will die here. As long as you pull off the continuous puddle trick and keep taken damage to a minimum though you can survive with just 4 et's like Normal difficulty. I did collect just one extra et in this run which was the Transit Tunnel East one bringing my total to 5 for Boost Guardian. I have since dropped it now to 4. The only thing that really separates this run from Normal is the main boss fights like Boost Guardian, Chykka, Quadraxis and also some of the earlier pirate encounters in Agon. All of which have increased health and so there's the extra battle on your hands staying alive long enough from the atmsophere while chipping away at their increased health.
One thing I learned when watching Tanisan's run is that the Japanese version "fixes" the bosses for Hard mode giving all of them 2x health. Both NTSC-U and PAL have the same mixed bag, with some bosses 2x health, and others not. This makes the JP version inferior to use for runs, despite more care and attention put into Hard mode.Super Mario Bros. 2 Any% in 8:58behemoth872022-07-18 | Performed on July 10th. I had some plans to improve this but got sidetracked with Echoes now so i'm uploading it. Sub 9 is no easy task whether you're resetting more trying to net those big early time saves like fastest Toad 1-1 or veggie glitch 1-2, or if like me you choose the path of least resistance approach and barely make sub 9 possible that way. This was also performend on emulator with the noticeable input lag which definitely makes things a little harder. That said this is about as standard a sub 9 as you're going to get I think, strat wise. Thanks to CurtsNewBrand's sub 9 tutorial for laying down the blueprint which this run predominantly follows.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No out of bounds speedrun in 1:28behemoth872022-06-18 | Tied game time WR. Real time is 1:52:38. Couldn't really ask for a larger pb at this stage I guess. This achieved my goal of a 1:52 comfortably and then the 1:28 game time as an added bonus! It would take an extremely clean run with my current skill set/strats (or lack thereof) to bring this down to 1:27, namely E-dashing which i'm terribly inconsistent at. Any interest in returning to this category for the prospect of wittling away a minute or two i'd have to learn and be consistent at this trick to enable some chunky shortcuts in key rooms. So for that reason I think it's a good place to stop grinding this for now. I could feasibly get a 1:51/1:27 already on a clean run but I need a break from this 6 month journey that I've been on with my favourite Prime game!
In terms of general movement and consistency this run was pretty damn good overall with no real issues there. What was disappointing however was the majority of the bosses went just averagely or even poor in some cases like the Chykka adult. I'm particularly disappointed with the Dark Samus 2 fight being sloppy as it was a fight that had been rehearsed to the point that the fastest kill was a near certainty in practice.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No out of bounds in 1:29behemoth872022-06-07 | First ever 1:29. 1:53:27 real time. I feel like 129 game time is quite an important milestone in this category so i'm pleased the efforts have paid off to be able to push it this far. Solid run overall but still marred by some standout mistakes/bad luck. Probably a very high 129 as well because there was a few accidental pauses throughout. The biggest time loss here was the near zero health drops from Chykka, causing me to panic and sit still for a long while trying to think what to do. Dark Samus 2 was also pretty bad, as was Emperor 2 despite having 3 power bombs. Screw those little Ing puddles! Emperor 3 and Dark Samus 4 though went very well.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No oob in 1:30behemoth872022-05-28 | Previous pb 1:55:17 not uploaded.
1:53:43 real time. This took longer than it should have done, thanks to Dark Samus 4 destroying so many runs, luckily she behaved on a run that was also comfortably in the lead. I'm gutted it's still a 1:30 game time, that was really surprising. I played kinda poor in the final sky key cleanup around temple grounds. There's always something to nitpick in a run this long so I'm going to concentrate on the highlights which for me were Dark Samus 2 and Emperor 3. Bosses that had previously been very problematic.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No oob in 1:31behemoth872022-05-08 | 1:55:24 rta. This was actually done on April 30th right before i headed out for a vacation and didn't have time to upload it. A nice pb but still a little way off from switching over to 1:30 game time. As of now MrMiguel has the record of 1:30 - 1:54:47.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No oob in 1:31behemoth872022-04-26 | First ever 1:31. 1:56:02/03 rta. Real nice run with some solid segments and good Chykka and Quadraxis boss fights. I got screwed by the crucial PB drop in Sanctuary which set me back around 40-45 seconds and Emperor 3 was a train wreck + bonked and fell down on the escape. I got pretty mad in this run at the end for those mistakes so apologies for that. A 1:29 would probably be somewhere just south of 1:54:10. Certainly a run that would need to pull everything off with very few mistakes with my current skill level and strat choices.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No oob in 1:32behemoth872022-04-22 | First ever 1:32. This run is a meme, uploading only because it ended up being a 1:32. This is a 1:57:05, just 10 seconds faster than the previous pb. The run sorta died in the dark forgotton bridge trying to get that last Torvus key and only decided to continue to finish out a run for the stream, since i'd been resetting all the other attempts.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No oob in 1:33behemoth872022-04-15 | Previous pb 1:58:44 real time not uploaded.
First ever 1:33 game time. Dark Samus chewed up a big pb and spat it out. I want to be happy about this run i really do. It was partly my fault for possibly letting go of charges too soon. For a run that somehow surpassed my expectations and ended up being 1:55 rta pace and probably 1:31gt this was hard to accept. Oh well. The rest of the run was really nice and i was totally in the zone. I'm sure I can reproduce it though.Metroid Prime 2: Echoes No oob in 1:34 - 1:58:52rtbehemoth872022-04-06 | This was my first world record in this game/category for realtime. It's been so much fun to speedrun what is one of my favourite Metroid games. I started learning this game around December 2021 and didn't start running until early February or so. Thanks to the Prime 2 community for being so helpful along the way in discord and twitch chat.
As for the run itself i expect this to be beaten very soon, like within days by me or Miguel who has expressed desire to return to this category. I was very unhappy with how the first half went as you could tell by the red splits and the cursing, then all of a sudden I brought it back with a very good Screw Attack split and kinda held the pace from there. I'd been practicing late game a lot to be fair. Later I fell down the Gyro room twice!! This should simply not happen if you're just careful. So along with early game being piss poor i really want to get a 1:57 now at a minimum.Super Mario Bros. 2 Princess Only in 9:22behemoth872022-01-23 | Performed on Bizhawk 2.2.1.1
With the strats I'd set for myself I couldn't ask for a better run than this! My goal for emulator was around mid 9 and I chose not to do every single strat due to the latency limitations of emulator. This run has:
No veggie glitch in 1-2 No potion jump in 6-3 (safe shyguy crouch jump instead) No yolo Wart fight Very few ladder jumps.Super Metroid 100% 1:12:55behemoth872021-12-09 | Massive pb for me after a long struggle, self doubt and thoughts on stopping at times. I Pushed through after giving myself a little ultimatum to keep playing until Dec 31st and then got this just a few days later. Many runs, including ones with a better pace than this heading out of Wrecked Ship got brutally destroyed in one way or another which I knew to be a result of nerves. Going head to head with my previous pb of 1:13:04 this is actually an inferior run somewhat. There's some funny mistakes like bonking the door to the early supers and just having a rough time in there, a minor scare at mission impossible, losing focus heading toward Plasma and Ridley not quite behaving again. This is by no means perfect and I feel capable of better but I'm super happy I got it done and never giving up!Super Metroid 100% 1:13:04behemoth872021-09-09 | This run came out of nowhere. Did not expect to get a pb with a slow slow at this stage in the game and easily one of the strongest runs I've ever done. Phantoon was in full shitlord mode with all 3 runs of the stream up to that point being slow slow, so I had to roll with the punches and keep playing to maintain sanity. At one point in the run I even answered a question regarding the likelyhood of pb's depending on what Phantoon brought to the table and I said that a slow slow would not grant me a pb :D For me this run is a lesson to myself and hopefully to others to not allowing Phantoon to dictate the run and ultimately the players attitude toward it. To have the belief in your ability and the ongoing climb to better speed and consistency which seems to never have a peak.Super Metroid 100% 1:13:08behemoth872021-07-30 | For twitch highlight and chat twitch.tv/videos/1102741213
Long awaited pb, and a big one! Good start along with the infamous fast fast put me on a pace seldom seen. I had finally been playing very consistently in last week or so, enough to not choke this one away while predictably dealing with the dreaded nerves. I will try to improve it for a while, if only because i'm still relatively fresh into the grind again and still enjoying it, and it'll be fun to see where this consistency can take me. If i don't pb for a very long time or at all, so be it. Thank you to everyone who supports and believed in me, it means a lot :)
Apologies for the frequent gust of wind sounds. That is coming from my air cooling fan located in front of me on the floor. My streamlabs obs suddenly crapped out on me recently where I couldn't stream or record without an error popping up so I was forced to use obs studio, which does not have the better noise suppression filter that I like to use. If I'd known it was this bad ahead of time I would've tried to remedy it first.Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion (gbc) in 19:32, on Hard difficultybehemoth872021-07-06 | The 4th and final Turok game for an 8-bit system continues the top-down perspective from Turok: Rage Wars but shifts the action up a notch or two. The plot: After years of fighting, the Solidarity Order has managed to sway discontented members of the Amaranthine Accordance to their side. As the First Vicar and the Endtrails lose power, Hellis'Sin, the son of the last bloodqueen, emerges from hiding to reclaim his rightful place on the throne as the new bloodking, now backed by the Solidarity Order.
The Amaranthine Accordance has decided to use a dimensional gate to travel to Earth and use the soon-to-be-conquered humans' weapons against the Order in an effort to regain control. Hellis'Sin contacts Turok, knowing that with his help the Order can prevail.
This game attempts to inject some dynamic gameplay to preceedings with vehicle stages acting as a sort of level map to travel to your objectives. The 5 levels are very short but pretty action packed courtesy of the spawning enemies.
Removing the stupidly OP infinite weapon glitch from TRW this game is a bit more robust and perhaps more well thought out than its predecessor. Better late than never also is the inclusion of some heavy randomness to a couple of bosses, making the vision on what the ceilings are in this game a bit more blurry. I couldn't completely rule out, for example, a run finishing in 18:xx for those more dedicated.
This concludes my 8bit Turok crusade! I hope at least a few people got enjoyment from these runs. It's been a blast to finally get round to playing them all and ambitiously speedrun them.

The story is a sort of sequel to the GBC Turok 2 plot where the Amaranthine Accordance has used dimensional gates to travel to four different planets where they plan to set up bases from which to launch an invasion of earth. With only 4 planet levels it is rather short but very challenging due to the large enemy numbers and their quick movements. Each planet has its own defining, albeit cliche features - green jungle, arid desert, frozen and volcanic. The scroll stages from T2 were expanded upon, lasting a bit longer but offering more range of movement and enemy engagement.
Without going into any details this game is very broken lol. You can basically keep a weapon forever just by jumping after each shot. This made the sky the limit when it came to optimising and I had a fun time constantly pushing this one to sub 20. Feel free to ask any questions.

This also marks the point in the series in which each game separates itself from its N64 big sibling in terms of the story, along with the locations and enemies offering at best a distant relation to it. The Amaranthine Accordance is trying to bring a massive Dinosoid army to Earth from the Lost Land in an effort to restore dinosaurs to their rightful home.
This is the longest of the 4 games and possibly the worst, depending on who you ask. The gameplay is a little more tired and linear compared to its predecessor but it still has some great ost courtesy of Alberto Jose González.

Turok: Battle of the Bionosaurs was developed by Spanish company Bit Managers and released on the GB at the end of 1997 for NA and 98 for the EU. Despite the subtitle "Battle of the Bionosaurs" actually follows the N64's Turok: Dinosaur Hunter plot very closely and is rather like a companion piece.
I did all these runs on Bizhawk emulator for the crispy capture and the accessibility. With this game being on the original Game Boy I decided to give it a custom palette job which I think turned out quite good.
I had in mind to write a huge description for each of these games detailing everything from the story, the speedrun tech and my thoughts on the run. What I ended up writing for each game was so ridiculously long that it wouldn't have fit here anyway, so I decided to keep things brief and reserve any detailed explanations for replies to messages. I put a huge amount of time into learning these games inside out and running them extensively enough to achieve some very challenging goals so I'm very proud of them. I hope you enjoy !

Since you start the game with 30 missiles, Low% in Metroid 2 collects just 3 items: Bombs, Energy Tank, Ice Beam. The Bombs are the meat and potatos of low%, using them to break the numerous blocks across the planet, climbing the giant empty rooms with the (in my opinion) best bomb jump physics in the entire series and of course dealing the 5 heavy blows to the Queen's belly. Ice Beams role is to freeze and therefore kill the 8 Metroid Larva located right before the Queen herself but it also does prove to be a useful tool throughout the run. Lastly, the Energy Tank is simply to enable you to survive the damaging effects of the Queen's belly. Echoing the Ice Beam though it is also very handy in providing you with that extra buffer.
Being that my 1:57 from 2018 was really just a semi fast playthrough with the aim of completing a low% run in Metroid 2 for the first time, I knew that if I put the time and effort in I could save as much as half an hour or more. I achieved this initially with my 2nd completed run in 1:25:21 on 24/4/21. The only thing stopping getting this category lower than 1:20 was being able to kill the Queen on the first visit when you have just 20 missiles. To pull this off you need some good Queen RNG to not run out, along with tight execution and steely nerve. Even with a perfect fight you finish the Queen with just 4 left over if you start with 20, at least with the safety first strategy I use. Roll on the stream just a week later I somehow managed to beat the Queen on the first visit in two runs. The first of these was a 1:16:36 with a textbook fight. The run was really good but earlier I fired off a missile by mistake during a few important nest areas which cost me dearly having to leave the nests to refill and then come back. Feeling that the mission was accomplished however, with no real expectation of beating it any time soon I still had plenty of time left in the stream to play for a bit more where I managed to repeat the success instantly with another first time Queen kill in this 1:14:57.
Sub 1:15 far surpassed my expectations of how low I could get this category so I'm quite happy about that. Some bomb jump Issues aside and less than steller missile drop RNG overall, there were no extra missile refill backtracks here that plagued my other runs. The Queen kill here was extra clutch at the end too. Spotting that her head was too high to roll into and using the final missile to stun her lower was a really cool way to close out the run.
The Colour scheme here was achieved after hours of experimentation with a complex arrangement of OBS filters, so I'm still playing the game on my TV with the usual dominant blue scheme for M2 that the Gameboy Player (GBI) provides. Below is my filter arrangement if you want to recreate it or something similar. Note: The order in which you put the filters also matters so if these were to be jumbled there will be some undesirable effects. I got my LUT filter from this site rocketstock.com/free-afte... ,and zeke39 is the final LUT in the downloaded list.

First ever 51. In a similar situation to the 100% run I feel as though there's a bit more left in the tank to get this down to a 51:4x. However it was turning into a grind where the game started inventing new ways to troll me out of achieving this. Either way I'm happy and relieved I finally got this tough minute milestone.
This run uses a new route I developed that was inspired by the any% TAS in 45 mins by Cardboard. Where the old route would end up with 3 energy tanks/120 missiles, this route goes 2 energy tanks/100 missiles by skipping two large item rooms in the early stages of the run. There's an initial 61 second save from skipping these two rooms but what ensues is a much tougher route due to the constantly lower max health, along with a dependency on farming for missile drops and health to enable you to proceed without losing bags of time. In the end after all the room adjustments and farming the route only saves anywhere between 10 to 25 seconds, depending on how lucky you are. This is a game that normally takes pride in having such little RNG and accessibility, yet this route kind of gives that accolade the middle finger, bringing it a little closer in spirit to more luck based speedruns of other games in the series. I put a ton of work into developing this route and number crunching every detail. Finding out that it did indeed save time and to finally run it was very satisfying.

Super clutch ending. First ever 55 in 100%.There's still a bit more left in the tank I felt after getting this. Some of the mid game Gamma fights didn't go as well as they can go and some movement slop here and there, but overal I feel like it's a solid 7.5/10 run. I said I'd do M2 any% after getting a 55 so that's what I'm going to do but I may return to this afterward to try and whittle it down some more.
My Roxio HD capture device doesn't seem to capture the sound properly when going through certain door transitions, so that's why the sound stutters during them. I don't know what to do about it but I don't think it's too annoying anyway.
