Running Dry & Fast H2oMechanicHobbies 2025-09-29 | Every trip out gets this ole beautiful rc boat closer & closer to its "sweet spot".The K&B 7.5 Outboard with the electric conversion seems to be a solid unit. In a few weeks I plan on removing it for the O.S. outboard as its alot less weight on the rear of the boat. I also plan to get rid of the curved fin & run a straight one. I believe the next trip out will show massive improvements , it just needed to be trimmed a little negative to keep the nose down. The 45" RC catamaran out for its maiden run on the pond. I think the rudder is too small for the boat, but as such, it's less drag for speed runs.I'll have to tear it down & figure out if I want to increase the cable size or simply try a better cable. We're going in the right direction! Since this RC boat design requires an outboard motor, the setup is completely foreign to me, so testing various ideas & hoping they work is all i can do.The K&B 7.5 Outboard with the electric brushless conversion seems to be a solid unit!I like that the flex cable is 3/16" / .187this way, we can spin some big props!Now that we have achieved a satisfactory run in this video, all there is to do is fine tuning & adjustments. SKYRC - ABC - DrProps H2oMechanicHobbies 2025-08-24 | While shopping around online for RC boat parts, I ran across this SkyRC tire Balancer.I had a thought about adapting it to test rc boat props. I mean, if it can sense a tire, then why not a prop!?So I bought one, made an adapter from scraps I had lying around (mainly parts from my Oxidean Marine Dominator).While this is strictly just a fun idea, I think there may be something to this!I tested it on a unfinished Copper ABC prop & shows it wasn't balanced, then I switched to a Race Ready Dr Props Stainless steel & it i fact shows it to be balanced! While the magnetic balancers are excellent for getting the prop where it needs to be, maybe the digital balancer from SKYRC can confirm the prop is perfect! Down to a tenth of a gram!Simply run calibration for the weight & let it rip. The end goal for me was simply thinking outside of the box. I believe there's something here & this tool can be adapted to the rc boat community. K&B 7.5 Outboard H2oMechanicHobbies 2025-07-09 | The vintage K&B 7.5 & Prather Lap Cat II is going to get a custom "waterproof" compartment for the SMC lipo & Wfly x9s receiver. Since this RC boat was originally Nitro / gas powered, there was never a need to have a sealed compartment. The end result was very pleasing & I believe i accomplished my goal with only a slight issue with clearance on the upper cowl. Vintage RC Tunnel Hull Nitro-to-Electic Conversion. K&B 7.5 Outboard. Super Clean Build! H2oMechanicHobbies 2025-07-07 | The Vintage Prather Lap Cat II tunnel hull may be 40 years old, but now it's going to get a modern upgrade to Brushless.While the .45 nitro engine from K&B was functioning & running decent, I was ready to move on and compare the nitro setup to a new Brushless version.The K&B 7.5 Outboard seems to be a solid drive system due to a .187 - 3/16" flex cable. This Allows the use of large props up to 50mm. Since going to an Electric Brushless System, I decided to use RC Boat Bitz 175A esc and a SSS 3674 2075kv motor. This will be a solid 3s/4s Boat, but still capable of running 6s in short bursts. The ideal RPM for any Outboard is 25,000 to 30,000 Rpm, anything more may result in broken flex cables. This RC boat build turned out extremely clean, I'm very happy with how clean & compact it is now. Let me know what you think of this project now that it's finished! I tested different motors along the way, including Rocket, SSS, TP Power and Lehner motors. Now it's time for Tenshock!!!Specially the Tenshock Evo-1540. It's a 3500kv 6 Pole Power house paired with a Flycolor Kraken 120a esc.The end goal is to find a setup that will reach the 100mph mark on speed runs. Vintage 1980s Nitro RC Outboard gets an adjustable jack plate & custom steering setup. H2oMechanicHobbies 2025-05-08 | The Vintage Prather Lap Cat II had some handling issues during the second run.I believe the best fix for this setup is an adjustable trim plate. Luckily there's a company (Mecoa.com) that still has new old stock products for this K&B 7.5. I also had to fabricate new steering arms to the servo horn.
