MetalLegend64Hostage Executed! FFFUUUUU…Hey viewers, I’m back with another Goldeneye N64 cover. It is one of my favourite video games and the soundtrack is so awesome I simply had to do another one. This time I did the Frigate theme. It’s a great tune with that sick bass line taken straight out of Faith No More’s “We Care a lot”. And being a James Bond themed cover I decided to put on the fake tuxedo for aesthetic purposes.
Considering that this track pays homage to well known songs (The bass line is “We Care a Lot” sped up, the intro chord progression is the same as the progression to the “Goldfinger” theme, and the orchestra hits were inspired by the ones in “A View to a Kill” by Duran Duran), I did try mashing the “A View to a Kill” hits and Goldfinger intro melody with the track but it didn’t work, even when I transposed the key it still felt out of place, so in the end I scrapped the idea.
Being a Metal cover I made this rendition more guitar orientated. The synth you originally hear from 00:009 onwards have been replayed with lead guitars, and the xylophone that plays around the 01:16 mark is instead played on a clean guitar with a tremolo effect patched on to emphasize the Bondiness. The second half of the song I went all out Metal. I completely changed the Bass part as I couldn’t get the original poly rhythm bass riff to gel with some ideas I had for guitars.
Hope you enjoy this cover and stay tuned for more covers in future.

Hey guys, here is my belated Christmas/Winter themed VGM cover for this year. Originally I intended to have this uploaded during the Christams week but underestimated how long it would take to complete the cover, and as I was away the Christmas weekend I had to postpone it to this week instead. Still, we are in the winter season right?
It’s been a while since I’ve covered an earthbound song (my last being the Onett theme from years ago) so that was another reason why I chose to cover this theme. Also, it’s a song in a different genre o what I usually do on this channel.
I hope you enjoy this video and stay tuned for more VGM covers and original material.

I started writing this tune back in late September and finished writing it in November. When writing this song I pictured in my mind this song being played during a difficult & deadly racing stage in a video game where everything is at stake and your life is on the line, hence the title of the song.
Although I have labelled this composition "Thrash Metal" I was hesitent on which subgenre of metal to label this song as. This song isn't as conventional as your bog standard thrash metal song (Slightly slower tempo, snare is never on the offbeat, the use of a synthesizer in the song), but in my mind it is still more aggressive and faster than a traditional metal song.

This song you are hearing is an instrumental piece I wrote throughout the past month and really is a combination of different Metal subgenres such as Doom Metal, Symphonic Metal, Death Metal & Thrash Metal. As well as the usual heavy parts I wanted to include some soft melodic parts for variety.

Hey guys, back with another VGM cover. I’ve done another Donkey Kong Country cover as it has been a while since I last did one. However this time round I picked a song from the third game. Although I consider the DKC2 OST to be my favourite out of the original trilogy there are some underated gems of songs from this game, this track being one of them.
I changed the arrangement of the intro to give more atmosphere and to allow it build up into an epic tune. I also added in an original piece around 2:31 for some variation. On top of that I included some industrial sound effects throughout the cover as an embellishment.

Hey guys, back with another VGM covers as always. Today I’ve done a Hard Rock cover (think AC/DC or ZZ Top) of the Title theme from the Battletoads & Double Dragon game. The cover is based more on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis version as it is my preferred version.
For the most part I made sure to stay faithful to the original style of the track, even going far as to recreate the arpeggiator sfx that is present in the Genesis version (I achieved this by setting the synth setting to arpeggiator, at 16th notes, and then adding an autopan effect at semiquavers/16th note). However for creativities sake I did incorporate the air choir featured in the SNES version into this version, as well as copying a section from that version into my cover (that section being at 1:25).

Hey folks, finally back with a new VGM cover as always. Once again I’ve picked another song from Final Fantasy VI, one of my favourite games. Decisive Battle is such an iconic tune and would make for an excellent speed metal cover to kickstart the new year on this channel (quite late I know lol), and so here is my rendition of the FFVI boss battle theme.
There were some subtle changes I made from the original version. I played the bass part an octave lower so that it gels with the rhythm guitar and doesn't get lost in the mix, making the distorted rhythm guitars more pronounced in the arrangement to count it as a metal cover, tweaking the drum parts throughout the song, and having the lead & harmony guitar play the click organ parts. As well as that I included a mini guitar solo too.
I hope you enjoy this video and stay tuned for more VGM covers.

Hey guys, back with another VGM cover as always, and this time, I put on the faux tuxedo and covered another song from the Goldeneye N64 game, my first in a couple of years (my previous being the Dam theme from 3 years ago)
The silo theme is another favourite song of mine from the game which I wanted to do a cover of. It was also an easy tune to learn and put together relatively quickly. I didn’t bother changing the structure of the main song, only combining the main theme and the escape theme. The biggest change I’ve made is the addition of distorted rhythm guitars and subtle changes to how the drums are played in some parts. In regards to the genre I aimed for with this cover I went with an Industrial Metal cover sound. The genre closely resembles the style of the original version and listening to the finished product of my cover I think it bears some resemblance to notable Industrial Metal bands like Rammstein and Fear Factory, with it’s use of drop tunings, synthesizers.

Hey folks, here is my new Castlevania cover. And of course I chose Bloody Tears because it’s an awesome theme and thought it would make an excellent classic metal cover. Originally I was going to try and put this together for Halloween but postponed it for the following reasons: A. I wasn't able to play it perfectly by then and B. I have had technical difficulties recently with my Ibanez, which was the guitar I wanted to use with this cover. I temporarily fixed in the past week, but I still think the guitar needs a proper upgrade with electronics being that it’s 13 years old and some of the components are starting to deteriorate as you would expect.
Because the original theme is quite short and repetitive, I recycled many sections of the original and re-harmonised them, those sections being the intro and the main melody. I arranged these new bits to be in the middle of the cover so when the first iterations have been played just like the original there is some variation to the structure but is still recognisable so as to not through listeners off. Originally I had planned to compose a little original peace for the middle 8 but when reviewing it it sounded too different to the main theme, so I scrapped the idea and went with recycling the main theme instead.
Overall I am very proud of what I have put together for this cover and look forward to sharing it with you guys.

Hello again. Back with another VGM cover as always, and another Doom cover. This time I did a cover of Kitchen Ace. It’s a very straight forward song to play, although the rhythm can be a bit challenging at first. Like my previous Doom cover I haven’t changed the arrangement of this song, except made some subtle changes to how the drums and guitars play their part. I also threw in a guitar solo at the beginning and a Wah pedal on the lead guitar on some parts for some originality.

Hey guys, back with another VGM cover, and a new FFVI cover too. Final Fantasy VI has an awesome soundtrack so I decided to pick another song from the game to do a cover of, and I will no doubt be doing much more FFVI covers in future.
I picked “Troops March On” as it is an easy song to learn and play, so it wasn’t too taxing on my daily schedule to put this cover together now that I’m back at work. The changes I have made as you would expect being a metal cover are the addition of a full drum kit and distorted guitars. I tuned the bass and guitars down to Drop C for a heavier sound. I have the guitars imitate the bass part and cover the French horn parts. Rather than throw in a guitar solo in the middle of the song like I usually do with my covers, I decided to run another iteration of the theme but have the dynamics drop so it sounds more like the original, with the strings, trumpet, snare drum and timpani, then have it slowly build back up to full metal band again.

Hey guys, here is another VGM cover for your enjoyment. For this cover I have chosen a song from the Doom franchise. The soundtrack to the first two games is definitely a Metalheads delight, and so is the perfect track for me to do a cover of, considering I mostly do metal covers on this channel. I have already learnt other songs from this game so you’ll no doubt see more Doom covers from this channel in future.
I didn’t bother changing the style or arrangement of most of this song like I do with my other covers. Instead I’ve played it exactly like the original. Essentially think of this cover as the original version with live instruments.
Most of the lead guitar I managed to play note for note except for the fast shreddy parts, which I wasn’t able to play at the correct speed so instead I just played some trills over it. Not as good as the original parts but good enough. This time round I wanted to incorporate the finger plucking technique on the bass in this cover. Unlike my previous cover the bass part was a lot simpler to play. I must say though by the end of the track my right harm was exhausted because of the tempo. Overall however I am quite happy with the result.
I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future.

Hey guys, back again with another VGM cover. Once again I have picked a theme from Super Street Fighter II. This time I picked Fei Long’s theme. It’s one of my favourite themes from the game and so I chose to cover this song.
There were a few changes to the arrangement I made, mainly cutting down the taiko drums to certain sections of the song rather than being played constantly like in the original. I did this to create some dynamics in the cover. In other parts of the song I have the toms replicate the taiko drums to compensate. When I played the bass on this cover I copied what notes the guitar was playing on some sections. Originally I wanted to apply the slap bass and finger plucking technique to the bass part but didn’t have the stamina to maintain a tight and clean performance via finger plucking, so in the end I resorted to using a pick as always lol. In the second repetition of the theme I have a Dizi flute play the main melody for some variation. Overall I’m very happy with the final rendition.
Hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future.

Hey folks, here's another VGM cover for you. This time I have done a 80's synth rock cover of the theme "Good Egg Galaxy", from the game Super Mario Galaxy. I had originally put the bulk of this cover together over 2 years ago but got put to one side due to events at the time which took up my time. Because of that I put the cover to one side and completely forgot about about it until lately. Recently I got back to working on this cover, tweaking and re-arranging some of the sections of the song to what it is now.
I found the brass synth quite difficult to mix. The output of the preset from my keyboard produces a lot of buzzing high end which I did my best to cut out via low pass filter. It sits better in the mix as a result but I still think I cold have done a better job mixing it.
For the video I invested in another camcorder so I can film two different angles simultaneously which saves time filming.

Hey folks, back with another VGM cover. Once again like my last 3 covers I have picked a song from a franchise I have never touched before, and that is the Bomberman games. I remember as a kid playing this video game with my older brother, especially the multiplayer matches. Fun times.
I picked the Mini-Boss "Masker" theme as it's a short and easy theme to learn, and I think it covers the foundations of an awesome and lively Metal rendition, with it's fast tempo and melodies. The final result of this is a speed metal cover with some keys thrown in. I wasn't too sure what genre to label this cover as. There are moments where it sounds thrashy but there are also keys in this cover and is more melodic than your usual thrash metal song. So I've just labeled it a speed metal cover. To compliment the original style of the track I started this cover off in a drum & bass style rendition. I did my best to make the drums in the intro sound like that of a drum & bass song.

Hey guys, back with another VGM cover. Thought I’d do another street fighter II cover as I haven’t done one in ages. For this cover I decided to do Cammy’s theme. It’s not that hard to learn and play plus somebody on my previous Street fighter II video requested I do Cammy’s theme.
I’ve labelled this cover as a Hard Rock/ Metal cover as I feel although it has it’s heavy moments, the genre of this cover matches the hard rock style of music than a full on Metal cover.

Hey guys, back with another cover. This time round I thought I’d cover a tune from a franchise I haven’t done before, and that is the Tales series. Remembering back to when I played this game as a kid with my older brother, I thought it would be cool to cover one of the songs from this game. Fatalize was one that sprang to mind.
As always I try and keep faithful to the original version with my covers so they are easily recognizable, but there were a few subtle alterations I made. The main one was changing the bass line. In the original track, the bass riff goes back and fourth between the octave but me being an amateur bass player I had difficulty playing that efficiently so I simplified it. In my opinion the simplified bass line sounds more metal which is what I was going for with this cover.
Being a metal cover there’s also more emphasis on the distorted guitars unlike the original and the string section is more of an accompaniment. I also dropped out the orchestral hits as I didn’t think they sat in place well with the tune personally.

Hey folks, back with another VGM cover and first one for the new year. I thought for my newest video I would cover the Brinstar theme from the first Metroid game. I’ve never covered a song from the Metroid franchise so this is a first. I picked Brinstar as it’s a simple 8-bit tune to play around with and put together a metal rendition of.
To make the cover interesting I thought I would include the Title screen and Game Start theme and arrange them as the middle section of this cover. Overall I think the cover sounds epic and am very pleased with the result. I didn’t bother writing a guitar solo like I do with my other covers as I don't think it really needs it. The lead guitars that are in this cover should be enough.

Hey guys, back with another VGM cover. This time I have done a symphonic metal cover of the Palace theme from Zelda 2. I was originally going to try and put this cover out a month ago for a contest the VGM community "Pixel Mixers" held which was Zelda related. But unfortunately I didn't put it together in time and the past few weeks I've been busy with other errands so instead I have released this cover now.
Recently I invested in a basic backdrop kit so I can use it in future videos. Using a backdrop kit also means I don't have to worry too much about background continuity or making sure its neat and tidy. I must say it makes this video look 100 times more professional.

Hey guys. Back with another VGM cover. I thought I would do another Undertale cover as I haven’t done one in a long time. Did a straight forward speed metal cover of Muffet’s theme “Spider Dance”, so I could put it together fairly quickly and not have to worry about keyboard/synth parts.
As I have had dedicated lighting equipment for a few months now I took this video as an opportunity to experiment with different lighting positions and angles. Hey guys, Back again after a while with a new VGM cover. I haven’t posted in several months as I have been busy with other things, plus I haven’t always felt in the mood to make another VGM over. However despite that I have been working on this cover sporadically over the past few months.
Recently I have been playing Final Fantasy VI on the SNES mini which I got back at Christmas. Definitely one of the best games I have played in a while, and so I really wanted to cover a tune from this game. Plus this year marks the 25th anniversary of the games original release. In the end I did a cover of the battle theme. A nice and simple tune that would make an awesome Hard Rock/Metal cover.
I thought a unique take on this arrangement would be to start off the cover with Terra’s theme and transition into the battle theme just like in the game, which meant automating the zoom in/out motion in the video and replicating the encounter sound FX in the recording. For me I found the closest I could get on the guitar to replicate that sound was to pick scratch up the neck. To end the cover I thought adding a rendition of the victory fanfare would be a nice touch as not many people have done a cover of that theme too.
I hope you enjoy this video and stay tuned for more VGM covers.

Hey Guys, back with another VGM cover as always. I thought for this cover I would do a Metal rendition of Gang-Plank Galleon from the first Donkey Kong Country game. It's one of my favourite themes from the game and really wanted to do a cover of it. It's also an easy song to play so nothing too complicated. As always I made sure to keep the cover as faithful to the original tune so it wouldn't be unrecognizable, changing a few things here and there.
I have made an upgrade in lighting. I recently invested in some softbox lights to improve the lighting when filming. However because of the size of these lights I can no longer film in my room, which was quite small to begin with. So I've changed the filming location to the conservatory in my house which was recently refurbished.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video and stay tuned for more VGM covers.

It is one of my favourite F-Zero tunes in the whole franchise and thought it would make a excellent Metal Cover. I wouldn't be the first to produce a rock/metal cover of this song as there are others out there. In fact I find my cover to be very similar to a version somebody did a while back in which the song is performed with the F-zero X soundchip. Anyway, I made sure to stay faithful to the original structure and arrangement in the first 1/3 of this cover as I always do with these VGM covers, with a few tweaks here and there. For example, playing the bass parts a whole octave lower at 0:22 which makes the section heavier and more fuller, as well as adding distorted rhythm guitars as it's a metal cover.
As always I hope you enjoy this cover and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future.

Hey everyone. I hope you're all doing well. I was planning on uploading this cover for January but in the end I wanted to take my time putting this cover together rather than rushing it. I haven't done a cover from the castlevania games yet so I thought I'd do a Metal cover of Simons theme from Castlevania IV. Yes I know, doing a Metal/Rock cover of Simons theme is hardly original judging by the plethora of covers of the tune here on Youtube, but I thought why not. Hopefully my rendition will stand out.
I made sure not to completely deviate from the original tune. For example, keeping in the pipe organs on the appropriate parts and playing the riffs and parts of the song as close to the original version.
I hope you enjoy my cover and stay tuned for future VGM covers.

Hey all, long time no see. I'm back with another VGM cover to close off this year. I know I've been largely absent from making videos over the past few months. I have made a post on the community section of my channel explaining why I was away for a while. Here's the link: youtube.com/user/6metal6legend6/community
Anyway, for this cover I thought I would do something laid back and easy, so I could put together quickly rather than the usual Metal covers I do, which requires more time and effort on my part. So I decided to do a Blues shuffle cover of the Ice Climbers theme. It's a simple track to play which has the foundations of a blues structure plus I like to try doing a cover in a different style of genre once in a while.
So, I hope you enjoy this cover and have a happy new year!

Heys guys, back with another VGM cover. Again it has been a while since I uploaded a cover, my reasons being the same as last time, had other errands and commitments to attend to, which meant I had to put these sort of videos on hold. Sorry for keeping you waiting for new VGM videos. Nonetheless, on with the cover.
I decided this time round to cover a tune from the Super Smash Bros games, especially the Melee installment. Some of the most memorable tunes from this franchise came from this game. Although that being said this tune I've covered is probably more of an underated tune, compared to the Menu theme or the Fountain of Dreams theme. I picked this song in the end as I thought it would make an excellent Metal cover.
I haven't really made any drastic changes from the original tune. I've played it exactly like it is originally except for re-arranging the end and outro of the song using existing sections. For the outro, I thought it would be a good idea to superimpose the Menu theme motif over one of the riffs to this tune. And as a result it makes the outro sound like it's really building up to something epic.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this cover and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future

Hey folks, I'm back with a new cover. It sure has been a while since I uploaded a new cover. I have been sidetracked with other errands. That I have been a bit lazy as of late if I'm honest. My apologies to any of my subscribers who have been eagerly awaiting a new cover from me.
With that said however I have been working on this cover over the past month or two, putting it together bit by bit. Originally I was going to cover M.Bison's theme and I did put together a recording, but I wasn't too happy with my rendition and couldn't think of any ways of improving my cover without drastically changing it from the original version. To top it off one of the bass riffs in the songs was quite difficult for me to play on bass at full speed so ultimately I ended up scrapping the the idea and went with Vega's theme instead. I am much happier with the end result of my cover of this song.
As always I made some minor adjustments to the riffs and melodies. The biggest change being the beginning melody being played an octave lower. This was so I could palm mute the riff and not deaden the note unlike playing it an octave higher, plus it makes the melody heavier, suiting the genre of music I went for with this cover. I also included some chord orientated riffs as a substitute for some sections to help the cover send bigger and heavier.

Hey guys, back with another VGM cover as always. This time I did another tune from Ocarina of Time; Lost Woods/Saria's theme. It's a straight forward tune that makes a great basis for a metal cover. Hey everyone, back one again with a new VGM cover. Once again I have recently produced a cover for the Pixel Mixers community in which they have put together a tribute album for the F-Zero franchise called "Boost Power!". I love the music of this gaming franchise (if you couldn't already tell!) so I just had to take up this opportunity. I really like this song from the second game and thought it would sound excellent with live instruments as opposed to the MIDI sounds you here in the original soundtrack.
I have kept the style of this cover faithful to the original composition, with the addition of a breakdown variant of one of the riffs and a guitar solo superimposed over the main riff. The mixing and recording was done by myself and was mastered by fellow VGM artist Ro Panuganti (Swiggles1987) for the album.

Hey folks, back again with another VGM cover. It has been a while since I posted a VGM cover. I recently got myself a new audio interface and am in the process of looking for a new DAW as my current one (Cubase LE5) is starting to play up when I open certain projects. So I'm spending time getting accustomed to the features and functions of said interface. I've also been busy attending to other errands to really sit down and come up with a cover regularly.
Over the past month or two I have been taking part in this tribute album for the Mario Kart video games, submitting a cover for the album. The end result being the cover you are watching/listening to right now. This project was put together by Pixel Mixers, a community of VGM artists that often put together tribute albums and contests relating to video game music. I myself have taken part in previous contests in which I submitted covers from my channel. Here is a link to their website: pixel-mixers.com
My arrangement for this cover is pretty much exactly like the original composition, with the addition of a breakdown variant of the main riff and a guitar solo superimposed over the main riff. Hey everyone, back with another VGM cover. And another Pokemon cover. Haven't done one in a while. It took me a while to get this cover completed mainly because of technical difficulties; the interface and DAW I use have been playing up lately, with latency problems and the DAW crashing when I use a certain plugin, so it's been a right pain in the arse getting the recordings done. And of course there's other errands and commitments I have too.
I really like this tune and thought it would make for a perfect Thrash Metal cover. I made sure the harmony and lead guitar parts were played faithfully to the original composition, minus the intro lick which I did learn note for note, but didn't have enough time to practice to play at proper speed. So I came up with a substitute lick that sounded close enough to the original lick.
Overall I am quite pleased with the mix. The only issue I have with the final mix (or master in this case) was I wasn't able to use a stereo widener plugin for the mastering stage. For some reason whenever I would insert the plugin on the master track it would crash Cubase. However this error would only arise on projects where the drum parts were separated, so I'm not sure whether it has something to do with that maybe. Anyway, in short this final mix doesn't sound as wide as my recent covers. I hope this isn't much of a hindrance to listen to. I think it's about time I invest in a new interface and DAW

Hey guys, back with another VGM cover as well as another Goldeneye n64 cover. I did say that I was going to do a lot of covers from this game after all. And considering it is the 20th anniversary of this game I thought what better way to celebrate this iconic FPS than with a cover of it's most famous tune, the Dam theme.
My cover is quite similar to the original version, just with a bit more overdrive guitar and lead guitar on the string parts at the intro that were to fast for me to play on keys. When it gets to the second part of the song which plays when time is running out I go for a thrash metal stye which I think fits that section very nicely. Overall I am pleased with my rendition and believe that I put together a decent mix also.
Hope you enjoy this cover and stay tuned for more covers in future.

Hey guys, I'm back with another VGM cover. I apologize for the 2 month absence. I was busy with real life stuff so I had to postpone my YouTube covers. With that out the way, here is a Metal cover I was I able to work on during that period. It is of the Corneria theme, from the first Starfox game on the SNES, or "Starwing" as it was known here in Europe. I like this tune very much so I decided to do a cover of it.
Rendition wise my cover isn't really that different from the original version. Both are quite rocky. The only changes I have made are extensions to certain sections of the arrangement and including a guitar solo like I always do in my covers.
There's not much else to add really, just hope you enjoy my cover and stay tuned for future VGM covers.

AAAYYEEE!!! IT BURNS!!! Here is a recent cover of a tune from Timesplitters 2 I have been working on. I've always wanted to cover a track from the Timesplitters games. Another great FPS series from my childhood, with fun multiplayer matches like capture the bag and flametag especially, not to mention the hilarious quirky characters and a sterling soundtrack. Mexican Mission was definitely one of my favourite tracks from the game as well as Ice Station and NeoTokyo.
Although I went for a metal rendition like I always do on this channel, I made sure to preserve some of the original characteristics of the original, such as the use of castanets and claps and an ocarina for the intro (All of which on this recording are synthetic). As you can hear I made some major changes to the structure, omitting the percussive solo sections and swapping sections around, simply to keep the cover energetic and the listener engaged.
Hope you enjoy this cover and stay tuned for VGM covers in future.

For this cover I used organs and strings and an additional tubular bells to play the melody in order to conjure that eerie and dark vibe, then there's the usual metal rendition I incorporate as always with my covers. Another addendum I did to this tune was include a new rhythm section so I could solo over, as I couldn't really come up with a decent solo over the main chord progression. It's also nice to add some creativity to the cover. With the video I added a green glowy filter over some of the footage to replicate the green doomy sky you see in the Crocodile Isle map.

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6F Zero - Fire Field (Metal Cover)MetalLegend642017-01-31 | You Got Boost Power! New Year, New Cover. This song is such an awesome tune I just had to cover it. Also somebody suggested in the comments of my Silence cover that I do a cover of Fire Field. So here it is.
My rendition of this song is essentially a hybrid of the original SNES version and the Super Smash Bros Brawl version. The overall arrangement is the same as the SNES version but I thought it would be better to use the varied chord progressions from the Brawl version in my cover. I also included an additional lead guitar so there’s some harmonies going on to make the song sound more bigger. With the rhythm guitar I tried to go all James Hetfield and downpick nearly all of it, but couldn’t keep up the stamina, so there are only a few riffs where I downpick, the rest is alternate picking.
Hope you enjoy my cover and stay tuned for more VGM Covers.

To emphasize the Christmas vibe I included some jingle bells and tubular bells, as they are the standard instruments of choice for any Christmas tune. Originally the genre I was going to generally approach this tune with was in a 50's rock n roll style, like Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bells rock" or Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". I start composing this song in that style but in my opinion didn't sound as good as the aforementioned Christmas songs. Another quintessential formula of a Christmas song is accopella or BV's. Singing is not one of my strongest skills as a musician, not to mention I'm still not adept enough at acoustic recording to conduct recording vocals in the first place. So in the end I just stuck with what I usually do, Hard Rock/Metal covers.
With the video I added in a soft white glow effect on all the footage to give off a frosty/snowy feel to further emphazize that Christmas vibe.
The whole process of making this video/recording was very easy and hassle-free compared to my previous uploads. I'm very pleased with the mixing and mastering I have attempted.
Hope you enjoy this cover. Merry Christmas and stay tuned for more covers in future.

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Kakariko Village (Ballad Cover)MetalLegend642016-11-30 | Ding dong, ding dong! Time for another ballad cover of a VG tune. This time I did a cover from one of the most revered and exalted video games ever made, LoZ: Ocarina of Time.
The first half of this cover I kept it faithful to the original, except I took out the parts in the song where the tempo drops for simplicity’s sake, and I also included some strings just to add some more dynamics into my cover. The fingerpicking guitar part that is originally played on a classical/acoustic guitar, is re-recorded on a clean guitar. The reason for this is as I stated in a previous video description, that I am not experienced in acoustic recording and fingering chords on the acoustic is a lot tougher, which for a short time strained my fretting arm, hence why I haven’t made much covers this month.
With the second half of the cover I went with the ballad format I went with on previous covers: rhythm guitars with a chorus effect, a heavily compressed snare with lots of reverb etc. I thought the slide guitar was a nice touch, it’s more expressive and also gives off a country music vibe. It took me a LOT of takes to get it down, as well as the fingerpicking guitar part. In truth I’m still not fully happy with the outcome of the fingerpicking recording, as in some parts of the recording there is some fret buzz as a result of tuning down a whole step, loosening the strings in the process. After so many takes I just got fed up with trying and trying and just went with the one with least mistakes and fret buzz.
Hope you enjoy the cover and stay tuned for more VGM covers.

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6Undertale - Asgore (Metal Cover)MetalLegend642016-10-29 | Human…It was nice to meet you. Goodbye…Another VGM cover, another Undertale cover. As you would expect because the soundtrack to this game is awesome. I really quite liked Asgore’s theme and thought it would make a spiffing metal cover. So I chose this song to cover.
Overall I wanted to do a Metal rendition of this song but simultaneously incorporate some orchestral elements. Listening to various covers of this song many of them stuck to the Metal/Rock band formula in playing all the parts like the Bergentruckung intro. To stand out from the other covers, I included pipe organs as well as some choir and tubular bells to play the intro and interlude at 02:11 mark. I thought this addition widens the dynamic of the song and adds a layer of epicness.
Originally I had intended the parts the pipe organs play to be done on acoustic guitar. However, I am not versed in microphone recording, plus all my covers I have done have been recorded directly via audio interface. So in the end I played safe and thought of a different instrument in which I could find a decent sounding VST to use.
Hope you enjoy this cover and stay tuned for more covers in future.

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6*Re-Record* Super Mario 64 - Bowser Theme (Metal Cover)MetalLegend642016-09-23 | SO LONG GAY BOWSER! Hey viewers, I’m back with a new VGM cover. This one is essentially a re-record of a cover I did a year ago which you can view here youtube.com/watch?v=Vsm6czRUjhw&index=11&list=PLlketOKBd10TNE6vtvzjNtEM8GyzuDAXV. I decided to re-record this as listening back in retrospect I personally feel I could have done a better job with the recording/mixing/mastering, now that I am more accustomed to the process then I was when I originally made this cover. Plus it’s one of my favourite songs from the game. \m/ Pure Metal \m/
I made several changes to how the instruments were played. The biggest change were the drums, changing some of the fills and patterns, plus changing the VST used for the sound. Instead of playing the second melody you hear on the 00:41 mark on guitar, I re-arranged it on keyboard so there is more variety of sound and instruments used. Changes were also made to the rhythm guitars, incorporating more palm muting to add henchness to the cover. With the lead guitars I basically redid the solos from scratch. The bass part is pretty much the same as in the original cover with some alterations in the rhythm in some measures. And with the harmony guitars, the only changes I made to them were omitting the bends as I feel it didn’t work well originally.
Doing this re-record was a good opportunity to improve the video quality too, as in the original cover the video was slightly out of sync with the audio. The quality wasn’t great either, because I was still using a basic MiniDV camcorder at the time, unlike now where I have a HD camcorder at my disposal. And I have also come more accustomed with the editing software that I use which helps me produce a more professional looking video than the original.
I think as a whole I have improved the cover tremendously. Adding those changes have improved the structure of the song. It keeps it engaging and active, whereas the original cover seemed to me rather flat and monotone. And the tones from the amps sound much better in comparison now that I have a designated preset I use for the amp tones.
Hope you enjoy this cover and stay tuned for more covers in future.

I’m back with a Donkey Kong Country cover, my second one after my Hot-Head Bop cover back from February. I wanted do a very ballady and melodic approach to this song, incorporating a variety of sounds as possible and not be it all guitar based turn out as a straight up rock/metal rendition. So I made sure whilst arranging my cover for this song I would retain the feel of the original; for example, keeping the synth chords the same as they are. I wasn’t able to replicate that pitch bend you hear in the beginning of the original on my keyboard as it doesn’t have a pitch bender, so instead I recorded some whale noises on my guitar, which as a result invokes that vibe of being in an ocean underwater.
I used the delay effect quite extensively on various instruments to produce a big effect and to further invoke that ambient sound. On one of the synth parts I used automation so I could change the tempo of the delay, replicating what happens in the original recording. Chorus is another effect I used on various instruments, chiefly on all the guitars, but also on the bass too. However I didn’t dial too much into the instruments as I didn’t want to saturate them with too much chorus. I found it to be a very fitting effect to use, what with it’s shimmery and watery sound, further invoking that underwater vibe.
For the video I did what I usually do with editing, except on the softer parts of the song I used a fader to transition on some clips instead of jump cuts and not cutting the clips so shortly. And as you can see I used a glow filter on all the clips simply to make the video look more polished and epic and holy (LOL).
Overall I’m very pleased with this cover and believe it’s one of my best covers yet. It was a lot of fun coming up with ideas for this rendition. David Wise certainly is one of the best composers for video game music and one of the reasons why I love the Donkey Kong Country games so much is because of it’s music. I will no doubt be doing more DKC covers I future so expect more.
Hope you like this cover and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future.

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6F Zero - Silence (Synth/Metal Cover)MetalLegend642016-08-19 | Show me your moves! Falcon quotes aside, here is an F-Zero cover I did recently. I wanted to do a more synth orientated cover for my next VGM cover and so I ended up picking “Silence”, from the first F-Zero game on the SNES. It was also a case of me really wanting to do an F-Zero cover as it’s one of my favourite gaming franchises. Whilst GX is my favourite game in the series, I really dig this song and thought it would make for an interesting rendition.
I’m very proud of the outcome of this cover. The sounds I got out of the keyboard were perfect and set up a nice sci-fi synth vibe. I also managed to play the bass part with fingers competently, considering I am still a novice on bass, especially when playing with fingers. And I’m very pleased with how the trumpet section in the original track translates nicely onto guitars, as well as the rhythm guitar I wrote for this rendition. As I am still learning about mixing I also believe I did a decent job with the mixing, doing the best I could with what I knew and what I had.
Hope you like my cover and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future.

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6Undertale - Enemy Approaching (Metal Cover)MetalLegend642016-07-27 | A big-haired guitarist approaches! Hey viewers, I’m back with another VGM cover. This time I decided to cover a track from Undertale, an RPG computer game wherein you play as a human who has fallen into the underground and must return to the surface. Along the way you encounter various creatures of monsterkind, in which you can either fight them and spare them. Each action you choose upon an encounter will determine the outcome of the game. It really is a bloody good game and if you haven’t played it yet, I highly recommend you do so. It has a touching plot, fun gameplay, quirky humour and of course a top notch soundtrack.
I feel pretty chuffed with the end result of this cover. I did my best with the mixing and overall think I did a decent job considering my lack of experience in mixing recordings. Considering that the songs in Undertale have the same leitmotif/melody in each song or at least have a variation of a recurring leitmotif, I threw in one of the melodies heard in “Hopes & Dreams/Save the World/Last Goodbye” towards the outro of this rendition which I thought finished the song off nicely, also making it sound epic. I enjoyed putting this cover together and I certainly intend on doing more Undertale covers in the near future.
Hope you like my cover and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future.
Undertale and it’s soundtrack are the property of Toby Fox. I do not own the rights to it (Obviously LOL)

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6Sonic The Hedgehog - Green Hill Zone (80s Metal Cover)MetalLegend642016-07-06 | GOTTA GO FAST! Hi fellow viewers, I’m back with another VGM cover. As part of the Sonic franchises 25th anniversary, I did an 80’s Metal/Hard Rock rendition of “Green Hill Zone”, from the 1991 SEGA MegaDrive (Genesis in North America) game Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s a fun song to play from a fun game to play.
I had a lot of fun putting this cover together and I think the overall result is great. To enhance that 80’s rock tone I was after I added a chorus effect on the lead guitar which I hadn’t done on my previous recordings but in my opinion works very nicely in this cover.
Hope you like my cover and stay tuned for more VGM covers in future

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6Pokemon R/B/Y - Gym Leader Battle (Metal Cover)MetalLegend642016-06-08 | Hi guys, I'm back with another VGM cover. For this cover I did a Thrash Metal rendition of the Gym Leader Battle theme from the 1996 GameBoy game "Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow", the game(s) that launched a globally recognized franchise. Again like all my other covers I recorded and mixed it myself. I think overall I did a good job. Not perfect, but at the end of the day I'm not a mixing engineer. Anyway, hope you enjoy my cover :)

My Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/6metal6legend6Earthbound/Mother2 - Onett (Guitar/Bass/Keys Cover)MetalLegend642016-05-08 | This is the song that is played when exploring the town Onett, from the 1995 SNES game Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan). This game stands out from the plethora of other RPG’s, being set in a modern day backdrop, it’s quirky sense of humour etc, and has gained a dedicated following over the past two decades. Here is my rendition. I’ve thrown in some melodies from other Earthbound/Mother songs in the solos, hope you like :)
