ABOUT THE TRACK:

BAD GIRLS is the latest hot release from LA producer ATOM SMITH with British session singer and pianist ALANNA LYES. Combining seriously dirty jazz vibes with Electro Swing energy, it positively sizzles with 21st century attitude, setting a swaggering vocal against wobbly bass and a Big Band brass section in full swing courtesy of Hollywood studio arranger ELLIOT DEUTSCH. It's a deliciously naughty cocktail.

The track is already in the running for several high profile syncs, and shows all the signs of a crossover hit for Freshly Squeezed. It follows last year's lower-key collaboration between Atom and Alanna when he took production duties on her brilliant debut album LIES HERE.

ABOUT OUR COLLABORATORS:

The Original Puppeteers (AKA @toddlenoodle86 and @trickiedickie89 #originalpuppeteers ) are a phenomena on TikTok with their constant stream of wildly inventive and eclectic pop re-interpretations - all in their own inimitable style. Fans of electro swing may recognise them from the Parov Stelar videos, but check too their version of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill (from Stranger Things) for another example of their art... needless to say we're huge fans and delighted to be working with them on this, we hope, the first of many such collaborations.

BREAKING NEWS: After 10 years, 4 albums, 14 singles and one EP - with well over 50 million streams to date on Spotify alone since 2015, and more than 25 million official video streams on YouTube - not to mention hundreds of live shows at festivals and clubs worldwide, Loredana, the voice and co-founder of the SWINGROWERS is set to move to pastures new.

LOVE! will be her last single with the band.

This song is a suitably bitter-sweet end to a formidable career with the band featuring as it does, a beautiful and sophisticated melody celebrating the eternal themes of love, given an added poignancy.

The current line-up of the band will continue to perform farewell dates live through-out the summer 2022. SWINGROWERS will continue to release new material with a new singer in the autumn. ABOUT:

With eclectic influences from Jazz to Electronica, Billie Eilish to Pink Floyd, ALANNA LYES is a British singer, pianist and songwriter from Leeds. More by accident than design she became the go-to session singer and top-line writer for the Electro Swing community creating melodies and contributing vocals to numerous songs for labels including Wagram, Ragtime Records, Electro Swing Thing, Adapted and of course Freshly Squeezed. She worked with numerous producers including Riff Kitten, Wolfgang Lohr, Balduin, Emma Clair, Varrick Frost and Duke Skellington.

For this project she decided to focus instead on a solo path, taking a creative lead and working with guest producers on a long-form album that dropped the tempo but turned up the heat to create a smouldering new sound that is all her own.

Sultry, confessional and highly personal lyrics fuse with a dark, contemporary and jazz-infused electronica. Lush and deep, this music will whisper in your ear one minute and slap you round the face the next!

Brighton band THE SWING NINJAS evolved from a walkabout busking trio via 3 self-released cover version albums, to their current fully-formed big band line-up of local jazz talent. A New Orleans influenced group whose first self-penned studio album of originals DO YA HALLELUJAH? (2015) showcased their quirky vision and on-point songwriting honed over many years working the streets, festivals and bars of Europe. Their new, 6th (!) album HONKY BARDO (2020) takes their swing sound a step further and adds the secret sauce of vintage Rhythm & Blues to the gumbo. The playing and musicianship is relaxed, understated and authentic as you'd expect after years honing their craft in front of live audiences.

After 3 classic (and universally acclaimed) underground albums IDIOLALIA (2018), SCHEMING (2009) and the debut DOES IT SCARE YOU? (2007) 12 STONE TODDLER continue to defy expectation or easy categorisation with their unique and quirky sound. Before the release of their last album IDIOLALIA they recorded a live set in the studio to a small invited audience. In the mould of a Sofar Sounds or MTV Unplugged session. ABOUT THE BAND:

THE SWING NINJAS evolved from a walkabout busking trio via 3 self-released cover version albums, to their current fully-formed 7-piece (or more) line-up of local jazz talent. A New Orleans influenced big-band whose first self-penned studio album of originals DO YA HALLELUJAH? (2015) was released on FRESHLY SQUEEZED and showcased their quirky vision and on-point songwriting honed over many years working the streets, festivals and bars of Europe.

Since then they have continued a busy gigging schedule holding down a weekly swing-dance residency in Brighton while gigging weekends everywhere from the WOMAD festival (released as their 5th LIVE AT WOMAD album) to the BAHRAIN JAZZ FESTIVAL and even a short tenure in their spiritual home of NEW ORLEANS. Sounding like a mongrel cross between Squirrel Nut Zippers, Pokey Lafarge, Dr John and Allen Toussaint, fans of this Youtube channel may also recognise the band from their appearance in our videos from THE SPEAKEASY THREE including the multi-million WHEN I GET LOW I GET HIGH.

ABOUT:

The retro-styled pianist and singer with her band were early on the Electro Swing/Vintage Pop scene back in 2012 with the massive single DON'T STOP. The track SILENT MOVIE is part of a more recent EP released on FRESHLY SQUEEZED. Jazzy vocals, dance beats, sophisticated lyrics and classic song-writing combine to lift the quality bar high with killer remixes from JAMIE BERRY and ODD CHAP completing the package. Mixing 20s and 30s vintage swing with modern dance music has of course invited comparison with the likes of Caro Emerald, Swingrowers and Swing Republic to name but a few, however Little Violet remains very much it's own thing.

LITTLE VIOLET were due to play the Festival circuit in 2020 but the current lockdown has put a halt to that. We hope to return with a LIVE video when we can (it was already half cut!), but in the meantime, enjoy this tribute to the brilliant Hollywood film THE ARTIST. If you haven't seen the movie already, you really must. We loved it. Clever, funny, and exceptionally well made.

Freshly Squeezed 2020-05-27 | Brighton's cult band 12 STONE TODDLER are the stuff of local legend. After 3 classic (and universally acclaimed) underground albums IDIOLALIA (2018), SCHEMING (2009) and the debut DOES IT SCARE YOU? (2007) they continue to defy expectation or easy categorisation with their unique and quirky songs.

Before the release of their last album they recorded a live set in the studio to a small invited audience. Very much in the mould of a Sofar Sounds or MTV Unplugged session. The Swing Ninjas - Do Ya Hallelujah? (New Orleans Music Video 2020)

Freshly Squeezed 2020-05-01 | Swing dancers, fans of the vintage lifestyle, New Orleans music heads - "...this is that rare thing: a revivalist band that actually has contemporary relevance." (RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE.) Brighton based THE SWING NINJAS evolved from a walkabout busking trio via 3 self-released cover version albums, to their current fully-formed 7-piece (or more) line-up of local jazz talent. A New Orleans influenced big-band whose first self-penned studio album of originals DO YA HALLELUJAH? (2015) showcased their quirky vision and on-point songwriting honed over many years working the streets, festivals and bars of Europe.

Since then they have continued a busy gigging schedule holding down a weekly swing-dance residency in Brighton while gigging weekends everywhere from the WOMAD festival (released as their 5th LIVE AT WOMAD album) to the BAHRAIN JAZZ FESTIVAL and even a short tenure in New Orleans itself. (From whence these clips come.)

This new release is the first single from their forthcoming 6th Album HONKY BARDO (Autumn 2020). As before it features their acoustic vintage sound (no Electro here) and as such comes across as a mongrel cross between Squirrel Nut Zippers, Pokey Lafarge, Dr John and Allen Toussaint. Fans of the Youtube channel will also recognise the band from their appearance in our videos from THE SPEAKEASY THREE including the mega hit WHEN I GET LOW I GET HIGH.

Listening to the Ninja’s is to pass an open door to a subterranean jazz cellar; a clarion call to the back alleys of Brighton’s labyrinthine Lanes. Part jaded lyrical cynicism, part joyous musical celebration.

Swingrowers - My Mood - LIVE in Chartres - Electro Swing

Freshly Squeezed 2019-12-04 | SWINGROWERS are one of the true pioneers to have emerged from the global Electro Swing scene. As well as a string of ever-evolving singles, EPs and albums, they have carved a solid reputation as a brilliant live band - as anyone who has seen them will testify. From festival stages like Glastonbury or Boomtown in the UK to international tours of countries as diverse as India, the USA and Japan, the band have been almost continuously on the road since their debut in 2012.

This video was filmed in late summer 2019 headlining the Chartres Fete Nationale in France to a 15,000 capacity crowd. MY MOOD was the encore of their live set and is a different version to the one found on their OUTSIDEIN album. Huge thanks to everyone who was there, the organisers at Chartres (especially Frederic Ligneul at Ville de Chartres), the festival sound desk and our own video team.

ALBERT TALES - I Wanna Know (Official Music Promo) 2019

Freshly Squeezed 2019-08-22 | Bad day? I WANNA KNOW is the second single from a new female-fronted, 8-piece funk and soul band ALBERT TALES. (None of whom are called Albert BTW). The video is the sequel to their debut TIPSY and was shot in a Tel Aviv apartment... (sorry for any breakages!)

Lyrically the song represents ‘Anger’ (the second in the five stages of grief - the other 4 of which all also make an appearance on their upcoming debut EP) and this heavy subject matter along with a video about coping with intense emotion while the world about you carries on oblivious is typical of what this band are all about. Deep. As ever, infectious choruses, funky brass and tight melodic hooks are all also present and correct... welcome to the conscious groove of ALBERT TALES. We can't wait for you to hear the full EP which drops next month.

Freshly Squeezed 2019-08-01 | TIPSY is the debut single from a new female-fronted, 8-piece funk and soul band ALBERT TALES. The video brings together a psychedelic animation sequence with a classic short narrative and a tight funky groove. Think Amy Winehouse on acid! The track itself kicks around a loose introductory brass riff before dropping into a verse that shows off the true oasis at the heart of the bands sound - the lush, shimmering vocals of Keren Siri.

Lyrically the song represents ‘Denial’ (as in the five stages of grief - the remaining 4 of which each make an appearance on their upcoming debut EP) and warping this heavy subject matter about escapism and social anxiety into deceptively light-hearted soul/pop is what these guys are all about.
