Tim Hortons | Mark DeMontis - Lets Up Our Game Tim Hortons 2022-12-27 | Mark DeMontis is building a more inclusive future for blind and partially-sighted players, both on and off the ice. At just 17 — one year away from a hopeful NCAA scholarship — Mark was diagnosed with LHON, causing him to lose his central sight in a matter of days. His whole life changed. But that didn’t slow him down. He went on to found Courage Canada, a charity dedicated to launching hockey programs for the blind and partially-sighted. In 2009, Mark put on a pair of inline skates and skated 5,000 km across Canada to raise funds and awareness. In 2011, he skated another 2,000 km to continue his effort. Then in 2021, he completed a 10-day relay campaign with the goal of raising $100,000 to support Parasport Blind Hockey. Today, Courage Canada has evolved into Canadian Blind Hockey, and their mission remains the same: to remove barriers and raise awareness and representation for blind and partially-sighted hockey players across the country. Tim Hortons | Tyler McGregor - Lets Up Our Game Tim Hortons 2022-12-23 | Tyler McGregor is breaking boundaries for Canadian hockey. Tyler grew up as an able-bodied hockey player, but in 2010 (at just age 15), he was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma in his left leg, leading to its amputation. During that life-changing experience, his family stood by his side to help him weather the storm. Following the operation, he decided to try sledge hockey — determined to stay on the ice no matter what. By 2012, he had made the Canadian Men’s National Paralympic Ice Hockey Team and quickly became the youngest Canadian to win a gold medal at the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships. Then he took home his first Paralympic silver medal in 2018. Tyler didn’t let anything hold him back from the game he loves, and now — as Captain of the National PARA Hockey Team — he’s working to do the same across the country.
