kicktothegroinYet another all new puzzle--and already my new personal favorite! Again, the concept is that it is a rhombic dodecahedron that has slices that are parallel to each of the 12 faces, only the slices are not as deep this time as they were on the "Toru" puzzle. Every last piece is original, not a modification of anything. As well, this puzzle was printed via FDM in Wellington, NZ, and the quality is substantially better than other services I have used thus far. As such, the movement of this puzzle is absolutely perfect!
As you can see, it also changes shape in a rather complicated manner...

It was terribly labour intensive to make, as I hand-made all the pieces. As such, a few are little un-even, but those are the breaks I guess. Perhaps I'll make a cleaner version in the future via 3D printing or something, but for now I'm quite happy with it as it has proved the concept quite well, and it's a rather difficult puzzle as well!Presenting rua tekau ma-wha (or simply 24)kicktothegroin2008-08-31 | After many, many hours (and dollars) of designing, testing, adjusting, and occasionally failing, I have done it! The worlds first (and at this point only as near as I know) deep-cut, edge-turning cube. Tah-Dah!
This cube has 12 axis of rotation, and is "fully functional" in that the pieces can even be re-oriented--or "jumbled" as I've sort of shown here. Clearly, I havn't mixed it up yet, and won't be for a while...
As well, large size is necessary due to the very complex internals of the puzzle. However, despite the shear complexity of the internals, the motion is very smooth and easy, but turns do need to be alligned properly first, as is visible in the video.
Cheers!New puzzle Torukicktothegroin2008-06-15 | An all new puzzle; the basic concept is that it is a rhombic dodecahedron that has slices that are parallel to each of the 12 faces. Every last piece is original, not a modification of anything. As a result, the movement is not perfect yet, but that will be fixed in future revisions.
I accidentally mixed it up the other day, and now have no clue how to solve it. Oh well!
As you can see, it also changes shape in a rather complicated manner...
