Another Fresh Start - VB45

Gadget John 2023-02-18 | Removing the old ecoflow wiring revealed no more problems thankfully, though the task was a real pain as it meant removing the toilet and seating area again! Then it was in with the new Renogy gear, which thankfully has been a real breath of fresh air, it works great, plenty of power and it's back to a basic, for me, system I feel much more confident about.

Campervan Toilet Makeover - VB41

Gadget John 2023-02-08 | Now I've completed the kitchen it's time to remove the entire toilet room and start again, the idea is to make it smaller, well if that's going to be possible.

Completing my Campervan Kitchen - VB39

Woke to water dripping from my ceiling on my face - VB35

Gadget John 2023-01-25 | Having water drip on your face when you're in bed is never the best way to wake up, and it's not the best way to start your day trying to work out where the water came from too.

As it was way below freezing outside with a very thick frost and high humidity that didn't help my situation, mainly because I've not been having the heating on overnight in the van for a while due to the epic space technology quilt I've recently started using.

I didnt expect this to happen - Returning from Ukraine - DV23

Gadget John 2022-12-30 | I recently travelled to Ukraine with humanitarian aid and spent 2 days meeting the locals in the city of Lviv, hearing their stories and handing out what I'd brought from the UK to try and make their everyday life a little easier, but also to let them see that people all over the world are thinking about them and want them to know we care about their future.

This video is of me leaving Poland, collecting my van after it had been repaired and making the long drive back to the UK, where along the way I had time to reflect on the trip and what the trip had meant to me.

I spent 2 days in Lviv Ukraine handing out aide I had driven over along with Aide Ukraine Now charity.

I wanted to make this video to show you what life in Ukraine is like right now, how the Ukrainians are living without electricity for up to 12 hours a day and how the hospitals are having to spend money on war defences instead of patient care, and just how that patient care looks.

Delivering Aid to Ukraine in my van didn’t quite go to plan - DV21

Gadget John 2022-12-20 | I was recently contacted by a friend I'd not heard from for a few months, it turns out he'd been in Ukraine helping out the locals during the war. He wanted to know if I could get a few of the big power bank companies to send a few products over to ukraine to help out families during the frequent power cuts. I said I'd contact them and see what they said, this is when I found out they were not interested.

Giving to charity is a very personal thing, you give money or your time for the things you believe in, so why should we expect to get free things for a cause that we believe in.

So I reached out to friends, told them that I was funding the entire trip, and I also bought a lot of products to take with me, but I asked if they could help, without judgement, and was very happy when 3 of them stepped up and also bought some products for me to take to Ukraine.

Although it wasn't really the huge load of goods I had originally hoped for it was still enough to help out a lot of people, and after checking this with my friend in Ukraine he agreed the trip would still be worthwhile.

He works with an aide organisation over there and they agreed to not only provide some security for me but to also select those most needing the assistance i was bringing over.

So I booked my crossing and headed over to Ukraine, and not long into the journey I started to work out there was a big problem with my van, which towards the end I was just begging it to get me there.

Installing my diesel heater under the drivers seat - VB27

Gadget John 2022-12-09 | I had this idea I was going to quickly, and easily, install my diesel heater under the drivers seat, just like @Mevi has done, he kindly sent me the PDF instructions too, they show it fitting slightly differently than I wanted to fit mine, and they show a 2Kw heater and I have a 5kw heater, but I figured I could make it work.

So what you're about to see is 12 hours of me making this work how I wanted it to whilst the van fought me every step of the way.

I went for the Maxpeeding Rods 5kw diesel heater with bluetooth as I was drawn to the gadget side of the remote heater management idea.

Adding the van roof lights - VB23

Layout Mockup Time - VB22

Gadget John 2022-11-22 | Before I start building partition walls I needed to mockup the kitchen layout with the items I've bought to build my van. So I get my fridge & freezer, the kitchen worktop and sink out and see how the layout works and get some measurements for how I need to start constructing the cabinets.

I got the sink, tap and kitchen worktop from magnummotorhomes.co.uk and the 2 fridge / freezers are 12v compressor units, so use little power but as they are drop-in they keep their temperature really well and those are from Direct 4x4 direct4x4.co.uk/products/45lt-portable-compressor-refrigerator

Thoughts on the Solway Panel kit - VB20

Gadget John 2022-11-18 | Is it worth the money? That's a big question, well I do think it is if you want to avoid the wood material look that a lot of sel built vans use.

Is it worth the effort? Yes, again the wood material finish can be a lot faster as you are adding the wood as you go, but you also lose a lot of space using wood and make your van build much heavier.

Overall would I use this kit again if I built another van? YES, 100% YES!!

Completing the Solway Panels Installation - VB19

Gadget John 2022-11-15 | I fit the final Solway Interior van conversion panels into my van after completing the ceiling installation. The full panel kit looks great now, I'm very happy with the way it's now all fitted and the ceiling panels also went in quite well and together the finish is far more than I ever expected I could achieve by using the regular self build materials.

Starting to insulate the van - VB12

Gadget John 2022-10-22 | In a recent video I talked about the loud wind noise caused by the maxxfans when driving along a motorway, so I ordered the seal kit to sort this issue out and fit the seals to my 2 maxxfans. I also remove the ply floor and get it cleaned up ready for the insulation board to be bonded down.

Fitting the Windows - VB07

Gadget John 2022-10-10 | Aside from the huge cok-up from the first attempt at doing this that ended in needing a new door, the effort that goes into installing double glazed caravan windows is huge in comparison to the very simple task of installing bonded single glazed windows.

I used 27mm rough cut wood for the frames, then used black sikaflex 522 to bond the windows and the frame to the van, amzn.to/3VhZwGy
