Created in the 60's as an asnwer to a request of the chinese government to have their own military watch instead of depending on other countries for supplying one, the 1963 chronograph was created using a swiss origin. Venus, one of very few Swiss companies manufacturing chronographs, was developing a new movement and offered their last generation the Venus 175 for sale, with all the blueprints, tooling and know how. They offered it to the Soviets, but they already copied an older Venus design when they made the Strela. So Venus turned to China, who at the time was developing their own chronograph, and they agreed to buy it. They slightly modified it, added a couple more jewels, and the legendari ST19 was born, and with a short stoppage in production, it has been the same as back then.This variant of the watch is as close to the original as possible, design wise, as it has been upgraded with sapphire and an exebition caseback. After more than 20 years out of produtcion, Casio decided to reintroduce the DW-6600 in the Limited 40th anniversary Remaster Black series!The new DW-6640 is a faithfull recreation style wise but the functions have changed. Created in the 60's as an asnwer to a request of the chinese government to have their own military watch instead of depending on other countries for supplying one, the 1963 chronograph was created using a swiss origin. Venus, one of very few Swiss companies manufacturing chronographs, was developing a new movement and offered their last generation the Venus 175 for sale, with all the blueprints, tooling and know how. They offered it to the Soviets, but they already copied an older Venus design when they made the Strela. So Venus turned to China, who at the time was developing their own chronograph, and they agreed to buy it. They slightly modified it, added a couple more jewels, and the legendari ST19 was born, and with a short stoppage in production, it has been the same as back then.This variant of the watch is as close to the original as possible, design wise, as it has been upgraded with sapphire and an exebition caseback. From the materials used, a liquid metal ceramic to the zirconia ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and a titanium brand, it should be scratch resistant and also shock resistant as a smart watch can be.Loaded with functions including a dive mode with depth meter and decompression stops calculator, it is a powerful tool while having truly stunning battery life!I wore it in rotation with my other watches and when I did wear it, I constantly played with the functions and yet, the battery is still holding after a month and a half, meaning using it daily you really can expect the claimed 8-14 days between charges!The pockage also contains a rubber strap that makes the watch even more comfortable while the quick release system and sizing on both the bracelet and strap mean you can efortlessly switch between the two.This amazing battery life, combined with the fact it is very fast and responsive, makes it THE FIRST smartwatch I actually enjoyed using! It's not a Zippo2. I also used the oportunity to do the tutorial on how to setup and use them.Nixie tubes, used in the 50's and 60's as a first digital display technology has a perfect retro future and steampunk vibe. The bigger model is actually 55mm which I found out later when measuring them, even though the specs on the site say it is 50.
