We cooled it with liquid nitrogen.
We boosted the power circuit
And we even swapped the crystal oscillator.
But, we cannot get past 3.6 GHz.
Even if our software says 4 GHz.

There’s CCD0 which boosts to 5.7 GHz.
And CCD1 that only boosts to 5.4 GHz.
With the Fmax Boost Override,
You can increase that to 5.9 GHz and 5.6 GHz respectively.
But CCD1 will never match the maximum boost of CCD0.
So that makes it clear that the Ryzen 9 9950X has two CCDs of very different quality.

Here’s a Ryzen 5 9600X with a default frequency limit of 5450 MHz.
But with Fmax Boost Override we can increase this to 5650 MHz.
However, no matter how good our cooling, it’s not possible to boost higher.
Unless you use asynchronous ECLK.
Because if we set that to 105.5 MHz.
Our new theoretical maximum boost frequency is 5961 MHz
And our actual maximum boost frequency is 5818 MHz.

I do this by leveraging asynchronous eCLK to stretch the V/F curve beyond the Precision Boost limit. Of course, that also requires finetuning with the new Curve Shaper. In this video, I break down the Ryzen 7 9800X3D tuning process into four unique overclocking strategies for beginner and advanced overclockers.
1) enable Precision Boost Overdrive 2 and EXPO.
2) tune with the Precision Boost Overdrive 2 toolkit (incl. Curve Optimizer)
3) tune the memory subsystem performance
4) maximize performance by leveraging asynchronous eCLK.

The previous record was with a 7.1 GHz Core i9-14900KF.
Of course we need liquid nitrogen to get the job done.
By overclocking the CPU to 6325 MHz.
We set a new record of 269.35 points.
We also get second place in the SSE benchmark..
And there’s more to come!.
Because this CPU can be overclock beyond 6.8 GHz.
And our actual maximum boost frequency is 5818 MHz.
This particular Ryzen 9 9950X is not that great of an overclocker as I demonstrated with in the SkatterBencher guide. However, CCD0 of any Ryzen 9 9950X should be capable of surpassing the 6 GHz mark. Together with the 9700X and 9600X, this 9950X is my third 9950X that could hit 6 GHz.
I'll first show you the BIOS configuration and highlight the important settings. Then we go into the operating system, and I show you what I do to get to 6 GHz.

That’s because better cooling will undervolt the CPU.
At 85 degrees, we only get 5575 MHz at 1.3V.
But at 40 degrees, we get 5825 MHz at 1.375V.
Then, at 0 degrees, we get 6 GHz at 1.375V.
And at -40 degrees, we get 6 GHz at only 1.25V!

This particular Ryzen 5 9600X is a surprisingly good overclocker! With the right BIOS settings and finetuning, I could surpass 6 GHz effective clock just like I could with the Ryzen 7 9700X.
I'll first show you the BIOS configuration and highlight the important settings. Then we go into the operating system, and I show you what I do to get to 6 GHz.

Let’s see how it goes with the V-Ray 6 Benchmark.
At stock we get 24,255 points.
After enabling PBO, we get 26,250 points.
Then we enable EXPO and get 26,749 points.
Now we tune PBO with Fmax override and curve optimizer and get 28,443 points.
And lastly we finetune the memory timings to get 29,353 pts.

This particular Ryzen 7 9700X is a surprisingly good overclocker! With the right BIOS settings and finetuning, I could surpass 6 GHz effective clock on two out of the eight available cores. That beats the 6 GHz I was able to achieve when the Ryzen 7000 launched.
After recording I noticed quite some frames dropping. Next time I'll use a better laptop!

Curve Shaper is a prominent new overclocking feature AMD announced alongside its Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” processor line-up. It’s an evolution of the Curve Optimizer tool enthusiasts have been using since Zen 3 Ryzen 5000.
Curve Optimizer is a tool that lets users exploit the voltage margin by Undervolting their processors. Undervolting an AMD Ryzen CPU helps in two ways: first, it lowers the operating temperature and power consumption. As a consequence, the Precision Boost 2 algorithm can use this additional headroom to boost to higher frequencies. So, you tend to get lower temperatures and extra performance. It’s a win-win.
Curve Shaper adds to the Curve Optimizer functionality by expanding its flexibility with 15 additional tuning points. Let’s see how it works.

Instead of a BIOS interface, there’s a config txt file.
Here you can add the overclocking parameters.
However, I prefer to separate my OC settings in its own file.
A single line of code will increase the Arm core boost frequency to 2900 MHz.
And with this line we offset the V/F curve by 25 mV.
And there you go, the Raspberry Pi 5 runs at 2900 MHz.

In theory, it should, because it doesn’t have integrated graphics.
But after using the Precision Boost Overdrive toolkit.
Consisting of Fmax Boost Override to overclock.
And Curve Optimizer to undervolt.
The 8700F boost to only 4771 MHz in an all-core workload.
Which is 300 MHz less than my 5 GHz 8700G.
So, I was wrong to think the 8700F would overclock better than the 8700G.
We get a 3X speedup in cool down performance, 1.2X speedup in heatup performance, and +20% efficiency with 500ml of LN2. More information about the project here: skatterbencher.com/worlds-first-ai-generated-3d-printed-ln2-container

The Radeon 740M integrated graphics paired with DDR5-4800
Scores almost 1300 points in Furmark.
However, after enabling XMP-7800.
We get well about 1500 points.
And after fiddling with the memory timings
We get over 1700 points.
So, it’s obvious that memory finetuning is crucial for AMD Hawk Point APUs.

You can find the so-called “dense” cores on a Phoenix 2 APU.
They work like Classic Zen 4 cores but operate at lower frequency.
On the Ryzen 5 8500GE, the four Zen 4c cores run at 3.7 GHz.
But with the Precision Boost Overdrive Fmax Boost Override.
We can immediately increase it by 200 MHz.
Then, we need to use asynchronous eclk to further increase the frequency.
Unfortunately, the cores are not entirely stable.
But we can still say that Zen 4c cores can overclock to more than 4 GHz.
