FRAGMENTS – the album project celebrating music past and present by inviting some of today’s most innovative artists - goes into the second season by reworking the compositions of composer Lili Boulanger featuring Angara with Soleils de Septembre. “Revisiting Lili Boulanger’s Soleils de septembre was primarily driven by the emotional characteristics of this piece. The deep melancholy combined with a touch of darkness created a wide palette of possibilities for us to rework it. Lili Boulanger was also close to Gabriel Fauré, who is one of our favourite classical musicians. During the remix process, we felt a profound connection with the original work, a kind of silent dialogue between the past and the present. The piano and choir were the main elements that forged our inspiration. The Korean violinist performs one of the great violin concertos of the repertoire, Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto of 1878, a work which combines the composer's unrivalled melodic gift with symphonic ambition and plenty of virtuoso fireworks to thrilling effect. To complete the programme, conductor and orchestra present Shostakovich's Symphony No. 6. Composed in 1939, it's a work that turns traditional symphonic form on its head to begin with an expansive slow movement, followed by two faster movements, including characteristically acerbic presto finale. With one single released each month, Fragments gradually builds over the course of a year. FRAGMENTS – the album project celebrating music past and present by inviting some of today’s most innovative artists - goes into the second season by reworking the compositions of composer Lili Boulanger featuring Fejká with Cortège. "I followed my intuition with this remix. While listening to Lili Boulanger tracks, I got stuck on the piano theme from Cortège. There was something slightly hypnotic about the ebb and flow of the mainmelody. I often loop short melodies that trigger this feeling, which is why I chose it. I realised that the title actually means ‘train / entourage’ – a kind of movement. I didn’t want to change this feeling toomuch but rather build my world around it. In my drums, I increased the swinging feeling and the special rhythm. I also added a note from my sound record to the atmosphere.
