Two siblings cursed in prehistoric times survive for millennia by feasting on the entrails of young people, prowling in what eventually becomes a park in contemporary Los Angeles. In an attempt to break their curse and achieve immortality, the brother conceives a child as a virginal sacrifice. Silly, sleazy, trashy, cheesy effects, stomaches ripped, hearts eaten, dissolve effects, zombies, a young Linnea Quigley, Aldo Ray, cannibals, prehistoric times, hilarious old age make up and wigs among other things. The legend Robert A. Burns also worked on this film and also assisted with effects. A documentary issued to police in the 80's on how to survive edged-based attacks, primarily blades -- with often comical and novel examples. Strap yourself in for the wild safety video that was actually used by law enforcement in the late 80's into the 90's. How many blades can you count in the film. An intense, funny, bloody, gory, and over the top little film that even throws in some actual photos of those who didn't survive edged weapons and interviews with those that did. Prepare to be educated on how to defend yourself of almost every scenario dealing with blades. Also the Milwaukee accents are thick and heavy at times. We're headed to the wooded Outback with this mean, rough, and nasty low budget SOV directed by Mark Savage, this being his first movie, in the vein of The Last House On The Left, Death Weekend, and even The Boys Next Door. It's got some amateurish acting, but even on it's minimal budget it has some decent camerawork and production which doesn't make it look as rough as some other SOV's. Three people driving into Los Angeles for a Dodgers game have car trouble and pull off into an old wrecking yard where they are held at bay by a bloodthirsty psycho and his crazy girlfriend. We're going back to the early 60's with this mean little film starring Arch Hall Jr, known for roles in Eegah!, Wild Guitar, and The Choppers, as the unhinged villain, Charles 'Charlie' Tibbs, and Marilyn Manning as his equally nasty mute girlfriend, Judy. The film is based on the true crimes of Charles Starkweather and his 14 year old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate, who's crimes would also go on to inspire such films as Badlands, Kalifornia, and Natural Born Killers. This cheapo B-movie filmed in two weeks with a budget of $33,000 and to save movie they used real bullets, in which Arch was actually a sharpshooter, so it was nothing for him. Also this is the first film for the legendary cinematographer, Vilmos Zsigmond, being credited under the name William Zsigmond. He would later go on to work with Spielberg, De Palma, and many other high caliber directors. This is a tense and well acted little film that deserves more recognition. A group of teenagers win a trip to a summer camp they had attended as children. However, soon after they get there they begin to disappear one by one. The survivors suspect that the disappearances may be connected to the death of a handicapped child at the camp years before. Here we have an 80's slasher film set out in the woods. This film was actually filmed in '82 and uses the same locations as Friday the 13th Part 3 but was held off from being released until 5 years later in '87. It features a decent bodycount, but the kills mostly happen off screen. It feels similar to other movies from the same time period as well. So there's nothing here changing the game. It stars special effects artist, Cleve Hall, as Mathew and Rhonda Gray as his sister, Laura, in her first role. There is an over the top freak out from a boyfriend named Dean, "Hey, don't ever call me a pussy!" There's also a buff Asian guy named, Tak, that has the same expression throughout the film. Cheesy, rough around the edges, goofy acting, slow motion scenes, cliched scenarios, but not horrible. Twisted Nightmare from 1987 is worth a watch. . Tune In. Passmore//Klaus Vetter . It's time to get down with the living dead here in this double feature from the early 70's exploitation/horror drive-in era coming from The Golden State and The Great White North. The high off the fumes are starting to kick in, the graves are trembling, and the fog is starting to roll in, so let's get into this... Kicking things off is the 1972 film Garden of the Dead. A short film clocking in at an hour that features a group of convicts that live on a compound out in the woods. Some of the convicts in their down time like to get high by sniffing the fumes of an experimental formaldehyde that's easily accessible. One night they try to escape only to have it shot down along with themselves. After being buried, well, I'll give you a guess on what happens next. This low budget cheapo horror film from director John Hayes features pale faced zombies that run, jump, use weapons, and even talk. But one of their weaknesses...light. There's also a good creepy atmosphere that includes lots of fog. Shot in 10 days in Topanga Canyon, Cali, and originally released as the second feature to the sleazy bloodsucker film from the same year, Grave of the Vampire, also a film directed by John Hayes. Next up is what's considered Canada's first "Gore" film from 1974, Corpse Eaters. Before things get going we hangout at a funeral home for a bit. Then we join a group of friends are wanting to do something different from their same ol' routine on Friday the 13th. How about, uhh, you know, spend the night in a graveyard and do a seance. Another simple story and another feature that's clocking in at under an hour. It was produced by Lawrence Zazelenchuk who owned at The 69 Drive-In in Ontario, Canada and made so that he could screen it as a second feature at his drive-in, where that remained the sole location of its screenings. Zazelenchuk was disappointed in it's original director, Donald R. Passmore, after 4 days of filming and then replaced him with Klaus Vetter. This being the only directing credit for both. The effects and gore are actually pretty decent for it's 36k budget, but if it bothers you don't worry because there's actually a warning that pops up to let you know something's about to go down. It'll let you know everything you need to know at the beginning of the feature. So it's time to breathe in more of the fumes and eat some faces with these two, plus an extra bonus, extremely low budget drive-in classics that are both a fun time. Garden of the Dead from 1972 and Corpse Eaters from 1974 are both worth a watch. . Tune In. Stay Weird.Sweet HomeRalphus Shenanigans2023-07-01 | CMV#065 . Sweet Home ~ 1989 . There's also special effects from Kazuhiro Tsuji, he also has an impressive resume with this here being his first film. So things look good here. A shaman goes on a hacking spree in the mountains of Colorado but really...it's Italy. The film features Krug himself, David Hess, as the intense camp caretaker, Robert, and veteran actor, Charles Napier, as the sheriff. Sleazy, some pretty nasty kills, and the always off kilter dream like atmosphere Italian horror films are known for, and the killer Claudio Simonetti score keeps this movie afloat.
