(original: caramell)hi!!! you may have noticed there's no chip prefixes in the title. this is because i wrote the cover in OpenMPT, and this is obviously not a traditional chiptune cover. i've been in a really tough spot both writing and life wise so i'm just focusing on making things that sound good to me and leaving it at that for the moment. this does not mean i am back. after this cover i'm going back into my hiatus until i really figure things out. i actually threw everything here together (including the song) rather quickly, over the span of a few weeks, just because caramelldansen was a big part of my childhood and i wanted to celebrate it turning older than me! i would have included the vocals but my hand hurts at audacity and i refuse to find a decent DAW for it. I started this way back in June but I also started college and it's a really tough curveball for me, so I wanted to put this on hold until I had time to really go through this one perfectly. This one was by far the most difficult one to make with all the speaking and gradual changes, but I learned a lot about supersawing and stretching out the meta parts of Famitracker. I also tried to upload this in 60FPS 1080p but it took up like 50 GB of my drive so I decided to go with 30FPS 1080p instead (I also had to reupload this twice because of audio issues!). I hope you don't mind.I feel like a lot of Spirit Phone's messages are becoming more relevant this year. [VRC6 8-bit] Persona 4 - Reach Out to the Truth 14.4ml 2020-07-06 | i spent so much time rendering this video omgThis is a j0cc-Famitracker chiptune cover of Reach Out to the Truth by Shoji Meguro (performed by Shihoko Hirata and Tamari, written by Reiko Tanaka). I actually started working on this in February for a friend's birthday and originally planned for this to be multichip (S5B+VRC6) JUST so I wouldn't have to resort to using DPCM for drum samples, but I only came back to it when P4G came out on PC a few weeks ago LOL. Then I realized how cluttered it looked and convoluted it would sound to have S5B, so I ended up scrapping it and keeping VRC6 and using DPCM samples. I also mixed this in stereo a little bit just so some parts can hit a little harder, but you can listen in mono and it'll still sound good. [10th@Famicompo Pico 4 Originals] Hello 14.4ml 2019-04-14 | 2A03+N163 6+SS5B chips used.This was my first Famicompo, so I'm really happy to have gotten 10th place/48! I made it mostly on a school computer over the course of 3 weeks and spent the last few hours mixing it at home.As you can tell (especially at the end. I kind of regret the DPCM spam there) I didn't really know what direction to take the piece so I opted for adding more ornamental, sparkly things rather than improve the actual composition which in retrospect was a mistake. I feel like if I had started this earlier than 3 weeks before FCP4 entries were due I would have come up with something more full-bodied and worth its 4 minutes. But hey! I got a lot of good feedback when results came around and I know what to do now for future compos.
