This is the full trailer to 'Apollo 11: One Small Step For...' VR Experiences titled "Ascent: Eagle Has Left the Moon" that takes you on full ride from lift off to docking through two levels. Sadly, this is only a 2D fixed camera portrayal of the actual experience done through the editor in Play mode, recorded via a HDMI recorder. It does convey to you the actual feeling of being able to move around in the LM interior choosing yourself what to look at during this 20 minute experience in programmed flight mode. The key word here is "programmed" allowing you to stand back (yes it is a standing only experience, but a seated position mode will an option for those who may find standing for twenty minutes difficult). There will be a full manual mode as well to play around with the handling of the LM in both the ascent orbital insertion phase level and the docking level for those of you feel you don't need any stinking computer to help you drive this highly responsive craft.
Thanks to NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration for making the high resolution datasets available to allow for detail down to 5 meters and Unreal Engine 4.24.1's new landscape, virtual textures and UDIM capability to tame these large images that allow this detail & realism at a decent #VR framerate to be possible. Also thanks to the latest NVIDIA GTX & RTX video cards and the latest headsets from Valve, HTC VIVE Korea, Oculus and @Samsung (and any other headset compatible with #OpenVR) you too can experience what it must have felt like (except for being weightless, but I am working on that :) ) to take this "pretty spectacular ride"*
*Neil Armstrong said this at Day 4, UTC 04:24:17 as they flying over the craters Sabine, Schmidt, Ritter on Aldrin's right and to Neil's left was the huge crater Delimbre and smaller family of Theon Junior & Senior.
NOTE: This is all 'ingame' footage recorded using a HDMI recorder. Your experience should be similar with a GTX 1070 (4GB+) or similar video card and i5 or above processor. This is being tested on both an NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super and NVIDIA GTX 1070 i7 based PCs and laptops as well as an older i7 with a GTX 1060ti. It is being tested with the Oculus CV1, Quest, HTC Vive, HTC Vive Pro, Valve Index and Samsung Odyssey + in Steam VR & Oculus modes. The goal is to release parts 1 & 2 on Steam, Oculus VR store and Vive Portal on April 11, 2020, the 50th anniversary launch date of the heroic Apollo 13 launch, which will also see the launch of the kickstarter for "LUNAR WARS" (https://lunarwars.space) and the VR hardware console VRCSCC (Virtual Reality Command System Control Console) that will allow you to effortlessly store yoru VR equipment as well as mount joysticks, thrusters, rudders, yokes, steering wheels and custom switches and indicators to create your own interface for VR vehicle experiences for personal, educational and museum kiosk use. To get you started the console will include the adapted Thrustmaster Hotas X and versatile mounting kit to firmly mount your controls to the console's horizontal and vertical surfaces. Along with a laptop support brace to provide easy access to your laptop (or keyboard/mouse) and through-holes, VR headset tension pole to allow cable management and out of the way use of the headset in both a standing or sitting position at the adjustable height VRCSCC.
