What if?: TVOntario logo (1976-early 1980s)
updated
Redone from scratch, this time with a heavy use of nodes for much of the effects, as well as minor alterations. The color diagram was, much like the last revision, done with circles, but this time without the use of spotlights to color them. Instead, nodes were used to blend the colors together, with a black copy placed behind (using alpha over and HSV). Mix nodes (using add) were used to blend the colors together. Once that was done, hue correct was used to finalize the colors, and color ramp was used exclusively for the white part of the diagram (thank the dark colors). The animation of the circles also uses stepped interpolation this time to make the "zoom" animation choppy. The "IN COLOUR" text has also been refined, boldened and spaced out slightly to match the original. As for the logo forming, planes, nodes and mask layers were used. Planes with array were used to segment the eye animation, in addition to the "shadowed eye". The rainbow effect has also been heavily improved, using a textured plane (with color ramp) instead of applying the texture directly onto the eye, using a mix node (with multiply) to put it inside the logo. Finally, to mirror the animation, a mask layer consisting of a large plane was used the cut half of the animation, with alpha over and flip nodes being used. RGB input nodes were also used for the background, as well as the finished result of the logo (with alpha over being used for the fade to yellow). HSV nodes were used to finalize the colors.
I also added the B&W version. As for that, it's pretty much the same, only with the removal of the rainbow plane, the "IN COLOUR" motif, a few animation tweaks, and the colors.

Same premise as the previous version, but this time I kept the dots of the 'i' letters separate instead of using array, tracked them to the text, and completely revamped the "mississippi" text animation. Animation of the camera and its components had to be done here as a result, with focal length adjustments being an example. This time around, material ramps were used for the shading, and a full SVG of the "ETV" letters was made. The colors have also been altered to be closer to the original and I revamped the node setup. Blur was used for the glow effect, with color ramp and color balance nodes used to tint the glow. In addition, both the outline and the inner part of the ETV letters have been separated, with the outline being the bolder part of the letters (ironically filled in, just behind the thinner part). That part was used for the zooming animation of the letters. I also added in the short version.

Relatively simple one. The rainbow was made using a plane, using black lines to separate the colors. The slight shake was done with the noise modifier in the graph editor. This did mean I had to track the white part of the text to the camera. Planes were used to draw out the cutouts at the beginning. Everything else/compositing was done with nodes. Not much else to say.

As you would probably guess, I am back! Well, again. It has almost been a year since I've even uploaded, believe it or not, though if that flew by very quick in my view.
Anyways, this remake is the first to use a new technique I may be using for future scanimate remakes. This uses halos for the objects, of course (I've used that numerous times over), this time instead of randomization, this uses two displace modifiers, with a wood texture being used as a base texture. Explaining it is rather complicated, but in short, the modifiers are tracked to two objects (in this case, plain axes empties), both rotated to 45 degrees to create an authentic scanimate effect. The movement is done as a result of the movement of one of these empties, as well as the displacement strength. Nodes were used for compositing the final result, with the use of blur and color ramp to adjust the colors of the scanimate effect (what colors are chosen normally depend on the logo). Remesh had to be used before applying the displacements so that the result would look more accurate. As a result, the text is not editable. I know all of this might seem a bit simplified, but you get the point. A mix node under multiply was used to mix the color bars in.
I would like to credit plasticity in particular for discovering this effect. I think it would be especially helpful for future remakes, specifically scanimate ones. Perhaps it may even give me some ideas too.

Similar premise the previous revision, but this time I used a new SVG of the HB symbol, improved with better symmetry. Curves have now been used for the morph part, which was done with the use of shape keys. The rainbow inside the HB has been greatly improved with better colors and consistent angles. The Hanna-Barbera text inside the HB is also parented with the rainbow, allowing the text to move with that rainbow. On top of all this, nodes were used for the fading and the rainbow. A multicolored rainbow plane was used for the array of text, which were blended together used nodes. For the Taft version, I offset and slowed down the rainbow animation, as well as removing the zooming.

Same premise as the 1968 version of the 1967 logo, however the forming animation has been slowed down and the zooming animation for the HB has been removed to make way for the "a hanna-barbera production" slide fading in. The color of the animation has been darkened and stepped interpolation (this is something I'm planning to use in future remakes and this is the first remake to use this) has been used to make the animation choppy. The "hanna-barbera production" slide has been recycled from the 1968 remake, however, I have altered it by replacing the HB SVG with a different one to match the original and changed the color of the text, logo, and background. I have also added an outline to the 'a' square. The text for the byline has been changed as well as the font to match the original. As for the alternate version, it is the same as the 1967 (1968 version) remake, albeit with color changes and the removal of the byline.

Nearly the same premise as before, but this time I changed the SVG of the HB box to the one in the 1967 (1968 version) remake. The zoom effect has now been done frame by frame to match the original logo. The font has been changed to Univers Bold Extended, which is more accurate to that of the font used in the original.(also in the 1967 remake). The colors have also been altered, making the background less yellow. Nodes were used for the fadeout. As for the bylineless version, I have moved the "a hanna-barbera production" text slightly. Finally, the Taft byline version and the bylineless version have been paired into one video here.

Yep, I'm back after half a year. Really has been a while. This one was rather simple to do. The HB box was redrawn in Inkscape and imported into Blender. For both versions, I used two different SVGs of them. The zooming was basic keyframing and the forming animation was done with curves (bevel factor) and planes. As for the 1968 version, the forming animation was solely done with planes and keyframing.

Same premise as before, but this time I made the line pattern at the beginning thicker as well as using a new CBC butterfly SVG. Nodes were used this time around, with the colors of the wings done separately in a different layer. Shape keys were now used to do the wing animation. The mix node was used to give the butterfly its color, and curves were used for the colors them, and I animated them with shape keys. Speaking of the colors, the colors here have been altered to match the real logo. I also added in the announcers.

Nearly the same as the previous revision, this time with new SVGs used and I redid the rectangle animation. A build modifier was now used for the forming animation of the rooster (body and head), and with linear animation on some parts. The error with the feather animation has been fixed here as well. Render layers were used this time, and mask layers were used for the red rectangle and the rooster. Not surprisingly, nodes are involved in this too. I also redid the colors of the rooster.

As of recently, a 1964 logo has finally been found, with the logo in particular being uploaded today here on YouTube. The logo was seen on a Twitter post from a year ago, which will be pinned in the comment section. This one was very simple to remake, with the zooming being done with basic keyframing. The letters are separate too, and with this I was able to make them appear one by one. The letters did have to be modified though, and I modified them by converting them into curves and making adjusts to the letters. Not much else to say, other than I'm glad this logo has been found after all this time.

A rather simplistic one, where shape keys were the primary source for the animation. I used planes to cover the logo up, all of which have shape keys, and were animated in a way to do the forming animation. The 3D cursor played into good use too, as I used it to locate the vertices on the CTW design, with vertices from the planes being snapped to the cursor's respective locations. Nodes were only used for the fade in and fade out. The slow version (plus Christmas) was done using time remapping. This is the first time I used time remapping in a remake, and I'm considering putting it more into use in the near future. Not much else to say.

A bit of a not-so-hard one. The writing animation was done with the Build modifier. with the lighting and shading of the script being done with area and sun lights. The shading for the red bar was done with texturing, with the shine also being done with texturing. The ripple was done with circle curves and shape keying, with beveling to make the circles visible. The background was extracted from the original logo. Nodes were used for the shadows and the blur for the ripple effect. Not much else to say.

Another simplistic one. The letters were done in Inkscape, and imported into Blender, with the line through the circle (to make the letter C) done with a stretched plane. The arrows, as well as the red line on the right part of the N, were also done with planes, with the animation of the arrows being done with shape keying. Meanwhile, nodes were somewhat used in this, with mask layers being used to mark the appearance of the arrows. For the text, I did thicken it a bit (with offset), and modified the C by putting a plane in front of it. That's just about it.

This is something I remade back in June, but I didn't bother uploading it until now. The WLNY-TV wordmark was retraced in Inkscape (font was custom) and imported into Blender. The gold bar was done with a stretched plane, with the details of it done with basic texturing. The NY 55 text was animated with basic keyframing (with the NY part be parented). Nodes were used for the finishing touches. I can't think of anything else to say. I'm aware there's a different music variant, but I didn't feel like adding it here.

Bit of a basic one. I was originally gonna use an SVG of the shield available online, but I did one after I noticed differences between the original Philips shield and the one used here. I did retain the text from the SVG, albeit with spacing and offset changes. The disc was done with a circle curve, and the details were done with basic texturing. Of course, the keyframing the colors was a long process, but it was worth it. The circular thing on the shield was separated and the spinning was done with basic keyframing, with the disc being parented with the circle. The disc disappearing was done with mask layering. The rest was done with nodes, with the transition from 2D to 3D being done with alpha over.

Same premise as before, but this time I changed the resolution to a 4:3 ratio and improved the split animation. Now, a new SVG of the logo, created by me, was used. An SVG of the wordmark, also made by me, was used instead of ITC Lubalin Graph Demi this time, seeing how the PBS wordmark is actually modified from it. In addition, the P-Head now appears when the music starts, compared to the last attempt where it was just there before the music, and the split animation, although not linear, has been animated with the actual logo. I also included variants. For the SNL (3D) variant, I used the same technique for my 1979 BBC 2 remake for the 3D effect, which is using directional blur, color ramp, and mix nodes, with everything being textured. An edge of the split is curved at the beginning of the variant before the split forms out of the P-Head. The And On variant was done with the array modifier, with texturing to do the disappearing effect and alpha over to do the fade in of the copies of the logo. Everything else was just simple material changes, those being the change of color on the yellow text variant, as well as the appearance of the text in, of course, the longer version.

The bars were done with a stretched cube, with the array and bevel modifiers applied. The materials on the bars are shadeless. The Colex text was done in Inkscape and imported into Blender. The star was the most time consuming, mostly because of the sparkles (which are in the same shape in the star itself). The cut-in and fade out of the star/sparkles were done with nodes, as well as the shadow, which was done with shape keying for the bars. Everything else was done with nodes, mask layering and texturing.

A bit of an easier remake than what I was expecting, with the squares being animated with keyframes, and put in different colors. Path curves were used to recreate the FI symbol, as well as animating it, whereas nodes were used to blend the rainbow squares together. The blue background variant used nodes for blending the background in.

Something I came across while attempted to find a 1971 logo capture. In this one, the logo is still, and the word "network" is next to the logo. You might also notice that the background is a bit blueish too.

Redone from scratch, I greatly improved the animaton by using meshes of parts of the cross instead of an SVG, with the circle being the only curve. The formation of the cross has been done with shape keying (using a circle curve) and layer masking. The font has also been corrected.

Pretty simple to do. Two copies of the MM symbol were used, with beveled circles, a mask layer, and the mix node (Multiply) used to create the effect. The 5 is also a curve (modified from Social Gothic Bold), with the same things applied to it. The color effect was done with the mix node too (Add), in which the fives had to be in 5 separate layers. Pretty easy to do. The abstract 9 shapes was redone in Inkscape. The trails was done with mesh copies of the nines, along with color balance to give it its realism. Texturing was also used for the trail to do the animation. The rotation of the nines afterwards might be off a bit, but it wasn't that much of a pain to do. The rest was done with nodes and keyframing. Not much else to say.

An unexpected PBS find here. I was really gonna look for more footage of the 1984 WFSU logo, but got this instead. In my opinion, I find this better than the aforementioned logo, for reasons you might already figure out. I really like the design and animation here, more complex then the logo used afterwards. Not much else to really say.

Trust me on this - there is a lot to explain.
The Feature Presentation text is your regular lighting, shading, and texturing, with the extrusions being done with directional blur, with the addition of the color ramp node to reduce the fading. The text was divided into 2 (for the most part), though divided more to fix the spacing. It was also divided for the use on the render layers. The zooming was done with nodes, which were also used to add in the shadow. The square were done with, again lighting and shading, with the geometry option used on the texturing, giving it the rocky texture. The Paramount square to quite a while due to the amount of nodes put in. Most of the square was shadeless with gradient texturing. This even applies to the text, the stars (besides a transparent duplicate used for the shining of the stars), and the gray filling on the square, which was also shadeless and done with texturing. The bylines were pasted over the square, with the parent feature to copy the movement of the square. Everything else on the square also has the parent on, though on a different stretched cube on the parent to prevent the deformation of the objects. The warning screen was typical directional blur, color ramp, and alpha over. Doing the Paramount logos in the background was hard work to, from the masking, the node setup, and many other things. A few things were changed later on, as well the warning background for the 1989 version, which also took a lot of time. There were a few re-renders here and there, but it was very worth it.

The triangles at the beginning were made with curves, with the addition of the mirror modifiers to make them look cleaned up. The Alpha + ColorRamp technique from the Desilu update was used for the merging animation, with a modified plane for the bright part of the green line, which was animated with shape keys. A couple render layers had mask layers applied to them as well, specifically one with the disappearance with the color, which was also animated with shape keys, as well as another one to animate the forming of the outline of the tube around the satire. A white plane, modified into the diamond, was used in place when the colors disappeared. The diamond was also duplicated to set up the forming of the satire, which was also done with shape keys. The rest is just your typical keyframing. To top it all off, the finished product of the symbol itself was not an SVG (idk why i said that but yeah).

The custom logo was pretty relevant over there too and it still kinda is over there on Discord. Like many others, redone from scratch. This time, nodes were added in. 4 transparent materials were added into the circles. 18 slots were added into the ColorRamp node and colored to make it look like the real thing. Instead of using curves, extruded planes were used to trace the script, along with the Build modifier to animate it, and a Subdivision Surface modifier to smooth it. The resolution is now at a 4:3 aspect ratio, along with a Linear Interpolation to give it a more realistic feel. Pretty much all I have to say.

Similar to before, though redone from scratch. This time, object parents were used instead of object constraints. 3 copies of the inner layer of the squares were used as parents for the T, and the two W's, each one animated separately, to make sure there was a better result with the animation. The ratio is now 4:3, similar to the real logo. Plus, the bezier graph interpolation was changed to linear to have a better result with the animation. Futhermore, with the help of Lyric's TWW fonts, the fonts are now similar to that of the actual logo, with TWW now being editable. Similar criteria to last time, as usual.

I've been waiting to do this for a while (since 2015, though unfinished), but now I decided to give myself a perfect time to do it. The animation was quite easy to do, using Itogi's 2 SVG (credit to him), which was converted into path in order to properly import it into Blender. Using parts of his SVG, I made the orange stripes in Blender. As for the animation, it was basic key-framing and bevel factoring with the curves, which were placed into a mask layer. The 3D effect was all done with nodes, such as Directional Blur to give it its directional 3D effect, ColorRamp to make the effect more solid and visible, and Mix to blend the gradient in with the effect. Not much else to say. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out overall.
