This is a full playthrough of the newly released demo for Menthal, a first-person psychological horror game where we are locked inside an isolated laboratory and forced to act as a human guinea pig for experimental medicine.
The core mechanics in this one are super interesting and get incredibly stressful. Instead of your standard run-and-hide survival horror, it plays out like a twisted medical anomaly hunt. The entire goal is to survive seven days. To do that, we have to take our assigned daily dose, wait to see how our body reacts, and then log onto the terminal to report any forbidden side effects we experience.
If we misidentify a symptom, miss a detail, or send the wrong verdict to the boss, the consequences are brutal. The developers at OfficiallyEmptyStudio built some massive atmospheric tension here, and the psychological dread of just sitting there waiting for a horrific side effect to kick in had me on edge the entire time. We are running through the complete demo to see if our attention to detail is sharp enough to survive the week.
