Shawarma, the hand-packed meat cooked on a rotating vertical spit, originated in the Levant region of Asia. Similar methods appeared in Turkey, called a döner kebab, or a Greek gryo (although that is a processed meat and not straight chicken, beef, lamb, etc.)
At Shawarma Taste, the juicy, marinated chicken was served warm with pickles and hummus and tahini and wrapped in a (kitchen-safe) newspaper as a nod to how street vendors wrap up the delicacies in the streets of Amman, Jordan and Beirut.
