‘Husband-pleasing coffee’.

Folgers coffee ads from the 1960s largely centered on one idea: serving one's husband a decent cup of coffee. Has rhetoric in advertising changed?

The first ten seconds of this ad are quite possibly worst of 'relationships and sexism' ever. Harvey and his wife's breakfast bliss is shattered when he rips into her coffee making ability. Harvey even suggests that he may start looking for other women because it's the fault of the wife's poor coffee making skills.

Of course it's advertising after all so the solution to their the rift is found in Folgers Instant Coffee. It all ends well when the loving couple enjoy a romantic evening in their now completely dark living room. Folgers has made its point.
