Hm, I wonder if anyone will like this new series...
This is what the standard General MIDI synthesizer sounded like before everyone had wavetable synthesis. It is referred to as frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. Similar to 16-bit game consoles like the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), it functioned by modulating (drawing) the sound waves instead of playing back recorded sounds. The earliest sound cards that had onboard MIDI often sounded like what you hear in this video. This is not an emulator.

This is a MIDI version of the (alternate) PokéMart theme from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, ripped straight from the game. Its another song from the GB Player. Because I couldnt get a proper recording, I ripped a MIDI, fixed the instruments, and recorded it instead.
