Sorry to keep you waiting...

But, like, actually. If I were a smart YouTuber, I probably would have done this one first instead of the 23/8 hellscape that is 4rd Sanctuary. I really enjoyed this fight, and its song was one I actually felt a bit intimidated to take on. When I finally started it, I knew I wanted to give it the time and hard work it needed, but it was tough seeing so many other channels come out with their own covers so quickly. I tried to use that as motivation and keep pushing toward more of an “it’s done when it’s done” mentality. I tried very hard not to release this before I felt proud of it.

Boy, this song is WELL above my vocal range, though. I spent a long time trying to squeak out some of these notes, enough that I actually blew out my voice for days after recording. While I do feel like I’ve found my vocal style (shout-out to the one guy who called it “drunk uncle screaming which made me giggle) I do think it’s possible this song could have been better served by lighter vocals. However, with the very aggressive punk rock/metal direction I took, that just wouldn’t have worked with my voice in particular. I’m very proud of how it came out, and I hope it captures the same energy as the fight. There are already so many amazing covers out with all sorts of different styles so please go give them some love too!

I did make some slight tweaks to the words because of how they sounded when I sang them, so I apologize if that feels strange. That said, because the original only has the lyrics on screen rather than a vocalist, I welcomed the room to give it my own interpretation.

Also, JESUS, that bassline. I have no doubt now that, out of all the songs I’m planning to do for CH5, 4rd actually might have been the easiest one for me.
