I (Steve) am doing some vertical flying with the overpowered FT Storch. I'm running an SK3 3542 1250kv motor with a 11x6 prop and pulling about a 1.75/1 thrust ratio.
I would like to admit at this time I only have about 8 months of flying under my belt (much of which was idle due to a harsh New York winter) and I'm still learning. My biggest struggle trying the vertical climb was that I would pull it past vertical and wind up inverted without realizing it. I got better towards the end and wound up climbing higher than I ever have on that last attempt.
