1. Save Your Money, Build an Emergency Fund

If there is anything that we learned from 2020, it's that going into 2021 we should have an emergency fund built up. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN OUT OF NOWHERE. The ideal number is to save 20% of your take home income, so that is a good goal to shoot for. If you can't save 20% that likely means that you are living above your means and you need to cut back on your expenses. Have an honest conversation with yourself about what is necessary in your life and do a long term analysis. Most time you'll realize that you are sacrificing long term financial gain for the present gratification, and that's not the financially responsible way to conduct your life.

2. Start Investing, Start Small, and Do Your Research

So if you are a investing as a beginner, once you've saved up enough money its time to just start. Usually real estate investing is a bit more complicated so the easiest way is to start investing in the markets. Index Funds are typically when I would go for most beginners because it is diversified and lower risk than regular stocks. Most people don't do proper analysis on stocks while investing so the usual bet is to dollar cost average and keep buying into the market and investing so that your dollar can outpace the rate of inflation.

3. Find a Mentor

Its always good to surround yourself with people that are better than you. That's the best way to improve. It's the reason why role models exist. It pays to have mentors for all facets of your life, in and outside of work. A lot of times the older the mentor, the wiser and more valuable as their teachings are rooted in more time of experience. Don't count your family out either, as they have some good things to share with you as well I am sure.

4. Built credit

There is no reason to have a debit card, you should always be using a credit card and paying it off in full each month so you build a credit. Especially when you're in real estate investing, you need to make sure that you have a good credit score when you apply for a loan. And with credit cards come great credit card points that are just an added benefit that debit cards do not have.

5. Keep Learning, Invest in Yourself

Make a plan to learn something new and be specific with it and implement your new knowledge. Life is all about becoming the best version of yourself, and trying to leave the world a little better than when you came into it.
