I made it as far as I could, and without using the really overpowered "Dark Enegy" item.

Level 68 has a items disabled restriction, and physical attacks or Fran's Fire and Thunder spells are too weak against Exodus, who resists all elements and has over 100,000 HP. So that's a hard limit, it's impossible to get past that level if you're jobless.

You can of course bypass the item restriction entirely through hacking, but that isn't playing by the rules.
