100% Attempt 258
RTA: 2:03:47
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This run is 13 minutes faster than the 1:49 I did back in 2018. Many, many routing improvements and strategies have been found since then. Power Bombs before Bombs allowing us to enter Sanctuary early saves quite a bit a time, as it allows us to get Screw Attack, Spider Ball, and Cannon Ball early. Having Cannon Ball early means we can Boost without needing Boost Ball, and it also allows us to kill Chykka adult instantly. Barrier Skip in Torvus saves quite a bit of time as well, as it allows us to leave Sanctuary through Torvus, and also allows us to set up Torvus for cleanup, since we can defeat Power Bomb Guardian and collect the Torvus Key down there early. There's many more improvements, but those are the major two.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This run is okay, I suppose. Pretty rough Light Beam section and first Torvus Entry. The best sections in this run are definitely Agon cleanup and final bosses. Final Bosses were pretty much perfect. The Quadraxis and Chykka fights were also perfect.
This is a really, really low 1:36. I beat my best time by 1:24 RTA, and it's a 1:36 still. It's probably a 1:36:0x.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Compared to Miguel's run, I lose about 30 - 35 seconds on routing. I don't do Amorbis Key skip (which saves around 15 - 20 seconds), as I find that SAU inconsistent. I also don't do the Mine Shaft out of bounds, which also saves about 15 seconds, due to it being very finicky. I do a slightly different route to Light Suit, where I head to GFMC compound after Dark Missile Trooper. This route only loses 5 seconds, and is much safer (avoids softlock potential).
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This run cannot do Item Loss Skip. There is a Missile in Hive Chamber B that doesn't exist until the room is reloaded, which currently, can only happen when you trigger the Item Loss cutscene.
Scans do not count as part of the 100% definition. Only items that increase the percent counter are required (The Mission Final screen does not show anything related to scans).

I was robbed of 1:36. This has to be the lowest 1:37 possible.
I will keep trying to get a 1:36, this run still has some really bad spots that I'm not proud of.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Second person to ever get 1:39 in 100%. A pretty bad run overall. The run up to Light Suit was pretty terrible. Mistakes on pretty much every split again, but a bit cleaner than last time.
Lost around 20 seconds on Emperor Ing 3, that was really rough.
Will try to get a 1:37 or better.

Very bad, but an 8 minute improvement over my old time from 7 years ago. This run is much, much worse execution-wise than that run, but it's still a lot faster because all of the improvements found since then save so much time.
Horrible cleanup, mistakes on pretty much every single split. I should be able to get 1:3x with more practice.
I need to practice cleanup sections and Dark Samus 2 lol.

Meh run. Lost 20 seconds on Light Beam, Power Bombs, and Chykka. Will probably try to get 46 sometime soon.

Gameplay and IGT only: youtu.be/0GdpDKu0y5Y
Run is meh, lost 2 minutes from Clawshot to Spinner, some really bad things happened. Pretty solid endgame aside from dead pixel on Argorok.
For the RT5X Pro specifically, I have color corrected it within the software. By default, it has an extremely green tint, so I adjusted it using the Video ADC2 Settings.
Use this video to educate yourself on what to purchase.

Some important things to note:
- *The Retrotink 5x Pro should NOT be purchased just to have an HDMI solution to your Wii. This is an upscaler meant for hardocre retro game enthusiasts, as it's versatile for all sorts of game consoles. I'm simply adding it here because it's the best solution for a non-modded Wii.*
- To get the capture to look correct on OBS, you may have to tinker with the Color range and Color space settings. For every single one (except for the NEWCARE), I have the Color Range set to Expanded. For the NEWCARE, RT5x Pro, and the Electron Warp, The color space is set to 709. For the Mayflash and Generic adapters, the color space was set to 601. For the NEWCARE, the Color Range was set to Shrink.
- I'm capturing this using an Elgato HD60S, so there is a very small green tint due to this capture card.
- The Wii has a natural green tint. Some adapters are accurate with this, while others will either make it appear more red, or more green than normal.
- For the Retrotink 5x Pro, I'm using HD Retrovision Component Cables. For the Generic converter, I'm using OEM. The difference is pretty negligible, however, the HD Retrovision Component cables have a bit less noise, but the OEM ones are still very good.
- My Electron Warp has some issues with the colors occasionally going from a prominent green tint to a subtle one.
- The Generic HDMI adapter and the NEWCARE Component to HDMI converter have diagonal line interference. I don't know how well it will show in the video, but trust me, it is there.
- The Generic HDMI adapter has an extremely prominent red tint.
- The Generic adapter has much louder audio for some reason.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Costs for each adapter (Shipping included, though may vary. Prices USD):
- Generic Wii2HDMI: $7.00
- Mayflash Wii2HDMI: $20.00
- Electron Warp Wii2HDMI: $35.00
- Retrotink 5x Pro: $335.00
- NEWCARE Component to HDMI: $20.00
Prices for Component Cables:
- HD Retrovision: $30.00
- OEM Component Cables: Between $20.00 and $35.00
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
My opinions:
- Best bang for buck, I'd go for either the Mayflash Wii2HDMI or the NEWCARE Component to HDMI converter. I would never recommend the Generic adapter to anybody.
- The Electron Warp is great and is very color accurate to component. It's a bit more expensive than the Mayflash, but it's good.
- The Retrotink5x Pro is a very expensive device, and I can only recommend it to hardcore enthusiasts of retro game upscaling. If you're just looking to hook up your Wii through HDMI, just see the recommendations above.

Okayish run other than dying to Blizzeta. I can probably get a 3:33 or 3:32 if I played really well the entire time, but being consistent at this run is very challenging.
2nd try EMS
15s Clawshot
15s Eldin Bug
35s TD
80s Lakebed Temple
50s Spinner
20s Armogohma
30s Palace
20s Hyrule
10 Cycle Zelda
Bad hugo, horrible Clawshot split, bad Snowpeak, lost 90s on entering ToT. A ton of random bonks and micro errors that added up too.
Temple of Time and Arbiter's were decent though, maybe lost 10 - 15s max on those splits. Also did 1 bomb Morpheel lol.
Pretty solid start to this run. Bad Twilights, Lakebed was fine other than Morpheel. Lost 20s in Snowpeak, 1 minute in Arbiter's, 30-40s in City, and 20s in Palace. Sloppy Hyrule and 8 cycle Zelda.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I was going to do Glitchless after sub 3, but this happened much faster than expected. I will think about what to do now.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Morpheel was a disaster, along with Lakebed as whole. Lost a lot of time on Master Sword, bad Lanayru Gate clip, bad Eldin Watch tower bug, Terrible Palace, Failed Poe 1 skip once along with bad Poe 4 luck, and almost choked Sub 3 to horseback.

Still horrible but improvement I guess. So many dumb mistakes :(
Goal is sub 3 and I should be able to do that as long as I'm not a moron.
16:56 on fadeout 16:48 on saying yes. IL timing ~16:42.75
no LJA for barrier skip and failed bomb boost before armogohma, got hit by her laser

After three consecutive runs getting to the end, just to die to Dark Samus not allowing me to do DS4 skip, I've finally completed the game under 50 minutes. I'm so happy!
This run is still very improvable and isn't too great, no major mistakes really aside from failing the Boost Jump for Amber Gate skip once. Mostly really small mistakes that added up a lot over the run. The beginning especially was rough, I lost around 20 seconds just up to Screw Attack.
I'm happy with this for now, it's so cool that this game now has 2 leaderboard times under 50 minutes IGT. I'm very proud of this accomplishment. It's crazy how far this game has come.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I captured this on a Nintendo Wii using a Retrotink5x Pro with HD Retrovision Component Cables, plugged into an Elgato HD60S Capture card.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Twitch Highlight Version: youtu.be/FQ92QiIXmFg
For context, this is the easiest Seeker Missile door to open without Seekers, and somehow, the Screw Attack did not hit the top lock. I tried for 20 minutes to recreate it but never could get it to happen again.
I lost a minute on Seekerless locks, and fell down in Dynamo works which cost me around 40 seconds.
This run uses the "new" Barrier Skip route, which saves around a minute and half over the route my 51 did. I also did Vault Skip and 2 tank Quad Skip, which saves an additional 40 seconds.
Not happy, I will go for 49, maybe 48.

I didn't practice at all for this run, I'm also still very, very rusty, as I have not done a run of this game in 2 years. A TON of mistakes in this run. I'd guess somewhere around 10 minutes can probably be saved lol. There are a couple of moments where I also almost forgot to get something (Phazon Grounds comes to mind), or did things in a suboptimal order because I wasn't thinking (I forgot Main Research Missile after Screw Attack, so I had to get it on my cleanup trip). A lot of the mistakes are really funny though, so hopefully you get a good laugh out of it.
I essentially only did this to get a long recording to test my Retrotink 5x Pro, and to test how long it would take for my new Computer to render a long run like this in 2k. Hopefully the video quality is very good for you. Enjoy!
Scans do not count as part of the 100% definition. Only items that increase the percent counter are required (The Mission Final screen does not show anything related to scans).

So as a way to test my new Computer and the Retrotink 5x Pro I got, I figured I'd torture myself and record this in high quality as a test. :)
You can find the first time I ever did this here:
youtu.be/fS8soGxTovI
15% is currently the lowest possible % you can achieve in this game (with glitches and skips).
Collected:
- 1 Energy Tank
- 1 Ship Missile Expansion
- 1 Energy Cell
- Missile Launcher
- Grapple Lasso
- PED Suit
- Boost Ball
- Plasma Beam
- Screw Attack
- Seeker Missiles
- Hyper Missiles
- X-Ray Visor
- Grapple Voltage
- Nova Beam
- Hyper Grapple
I played in 4:3 because I like the way it looks.
This was captured on an Elgato HD60S and a real Wii using OEM Component Cables with a Retrotink 5x Pro, loaded through USB Loader GX to remove the Deflicker filter.
Very improvable, but it is deceptively hard to finish a run of this category. From falling out of bounds killing you, to the Triclops out of bounds being somewhat inconsistent, to health management to Plasma beam, it's a very, very punishing run.
I may try to improve this in the future, but as of right now, I'm busy, so I won't have much time to do so.
There's a few tricks I didn't do in this run because I decided I wanted to use a route that I could feasibly complete. Early Wild isn't used in this run because it's a 1 try only trick and doesn't change my route much. I did not do a wallcrawl in Main Plaza to access Vault from behind because I didn't feel comfortable enough doing it to save time. I did the Energy Core puzzle because I didn't want to add a wallcrawl similar to the Ice Beam one in the middle of the run.
Q: Why are you playing on Casual?
A: It's faster. There is no other reason. For a lot of experienced players of this game (and other versions), difficulty generally doesn't make the game harder for us. It just makes it take longer.
Q: Why are the scans instant?
A: If you save after completing the game, you can start a new game on that file with everything you've scanned previously.
Q: Why are you using Pointer controls?
A: It's what I'm most comfortable with. I've tried dual stick and don't like the gyro as much, and I don't like the beam switching. Pointer feels similar to the Wii version, but not quite as responsive. I use a Pro Controller as well.
IGT: 1:51
Sorry about the lower quality recording. During Phendrana cleanup (when going towards the Artifact of Sun,) I was getting Encoding problems on OBS, so unfortunately that part of the run is laggy. This is an export of my Twitch highlight.
--------------
FAQ:
Q: Why are the scans instant?
A: After beating the game, if you choose to save over your file, you can start a new game with everything you've already scanned.
Q: Why are you playing on Casual mode? You're bad!
A: It's faster. I have played this game since the original and have beaten it hundreds if not thousands of times, so making the difficulty higher does nothing for me except make the run longer.
Q: Why are you using Pointer controls?
A: Simply because I used to speedrun the Wii version of this game, and it feels natural to me. The precision with aiming just isn't matched by any other control scheme in my opinion. The disadvantage to it is that you can't turn as fast as the Dual Stick or Hybrid control schemes, but I don't really care about that.
--------------
This run is still overall sloppy, but I nailed all of the hard tricks in this run. Overall happy for now.
Watch live at twitch.tv/draconif
Casual mode is the standard mode for speedruns because it's faster. Many people, including myself, who have done several, several speedruns of the original GameCube version, the difficulty doesn't really make runs harder for us. It just makes them longer.
I play with Pointer controls on a Pro Controller, because I used to speedrun the Wii version of this game and it feels natural to me. Also, being able to aim without adjusting my point of view is a huge benefit in my opinion.
Second finished run with a completely different route that I haven't timed. it feels like a nice route, because you have Plasma and Power Bombs for Thardus.
This run is still very bad, and has several, several minutes of improvement to make.
I lost about 3 or 4 minutes on Triclops, died on IBBF once, forgot Elder and had to go back for it, and I just played super sloppy and made several small mistakes everywhere. Extremely beatable.
Ideally I would have gotten the Power Bomb in Fiery Shores early, but I haven't practiced that trick enough to want to do it in runs.
Anyway with this route I can save like maybe 10 - 15 mins on this run lol
I play with the Pointer control scheme using a Pro Controller
Gyro Skip doesn't work, which means the fastest Sanctuary Key collection route doesn't work.
This run is extremely bad, I essentially only did this to unlock the gallery lol
