The Killing (1956) | Planning the Heist Stanley Kubrick 2026-03-12 | In 1954, Kubrick was introduced to producer James B. Harris, who had founded Flamingo Films, a movie and TV distribution company. The two hit it off and soon moved from New York to Los Angeles with the hopes of setting up their own film production company. Harris considered Kubrick "the most intelligent, most creative person [he had] ever come in contact with", and the two formed the Harris-Kubrick Pictures Corporation in 1955.Whilst in L.A, Kubrick came across a crime novel entitled 'Clean Break' by Lionel White and thought it was terrific. Costing £5,000 to decorate, Kubrick had to do this twice when he decided to do re-shoots weeks after returning to its original state.
