updated
First part of the battle, he'll keep activating a shield around him. As long as it's up, you'll be pushed back by some sort of wind. In this state, he'll use his scythe attacks. When he does that, he'll also throw energy balls that stay on the field for a while, so be wary of what's around you. He'll sometimes use his scythe above you, just staying on the ground will be enough to avoid getting hit. He will also throw a wave of white energy balls, which can easily be dodge by simply walking away, or with earth magic if you're too close to him. The last thing he'll use in this state are those lasers. They seem to be tracking you a bit, so keep moving, and earth magic if needed should do the trick. Note that he'll use the lasers and the scythe attacks throughout the battle, but not the white energy balls, for some reason.
To break the shield, a normal attack is all it takes. Doing so will knock you back a bit, and then you can close in to hack at him. When his shield is down, he'll throw lightning bolts at you that do a bit of splash damange when hitting the ground. Again, walk around while attacking him and use earth magic when it's appropriate.
After you lower his HP enough, he'll understand that his shield is completely useless and get a few new attack. First, he'll do a series of charge attacks at you. If you are positionned properly, you can just walk away from them. Otherwise, again, earth magic will allow you to block it, but it's risky. After doing this he generally reappears in front of you, allowing you to score some hits. When close, he might try to smash you with that gigantic sword on his back. It hurts, so try not to stay too close. When doing all of this, he'll keep using his scythe, his lasers and his lightning bolts, so it makes the field a real mess. Stay concentrated.
He has one final attack that he'll use quite frequently. He'll disappear and reappear in the center of the field. When he does that, get as far as you can, as quickly as you can. He'll try to drag you in, but assuming you have enough MP you should be able to resist with your earth magic. If he manages to get you, you'll be warped to some sort of weird space and he'll beat the crap out of you with his sword, in a way that is reminding of Knights of the Round from FFVII, seriously.
Final note, try to kill him with a fireball from a distance, or make sure you're ready to run away when dealing the final blow. When dead, he'll stay at 1 HP, then he'll drag you in before exploding. It deals about 200 damage, so it can easily kill you. It's cheap, yeah.
Now, to the final boss...
The area itself is fairly straighforward. The only place where you can mess up, is when you jump down. As you can see, I went to get that Silver Bell, and then backtracked. In fact, if I went down the other way parallel to the path where the chest of the Bell was, I would've ended up at the top where I fell down in the first place. The Bell is necessary in killing the skeleton enemies. If you just blaze through the area, it's not really useful, but you'll want it because the skeletons are your best source of experience, gold and raval, and you should need all of those before the final bosses. The only gimmick in this dungeon is the gian spiked things that blaze through certain areas. They don't hurt that much, not at all if you have upgraded equipment even, but they'll knock you back, which can be a very, very bad thing if you aren't clearing up the areas of enemies. The Lotus Hammer is used to create the ultimate shield, by the way. You need 1000 raval along with it to get it created. And then you have to pay even more raval to upgrade it.
And another note, I totally missed a chest near the end. I forgot it was there, but once you jump down that pit, you can't get back up except by starting back from the beginning. There's 720 raval in it, so you'll want to pick it up.
Alright, enemy rundown : First off, you meet with some annoying bat things. They're irritating in your first run through the dungeon, wind magic is your best bet to strike them from a short distance to avoid their charge attacks. The don'T hit hard, but they can be somewhat hard to avoid. If you got upgraded equipment, they'll deal little to no damage.
Second, we got those statue enemies. They'renot very hard, but they can take a lot of damage. If you stand really close to them, their beam won't actually hit you. Be careful, they'll occasionaly start moving around and shoot in a wide area in front of them. Dangerous.
After, you got some 4 legged jumping creature. They're probably the least threatening of all enemies in there. They'll drop fireballs when jumping... and that's it.
Next, you got those undead soldiers. They have only one attack, which consists of a small charge in front of them. It hits hard, but with a fairly short range. They'll also jump back a lot to dodge your attacks, so stunning them is the way to go. They're very numerous in the area, so take advantage of that.
After, we get those very annoying mage type enemies. They're surrounded by 4 flames that'll damage you if you come in contact with them, making fire magic the simplest way to take care of them carefully. They have two attack, one where they'll throw a bunch of flames in front of you, and the other one will throe a homing flying book after you. Neither are really hard to dodge, and they don't hit very hard either. They're still very annoying.
After that, we have the giant flower monster. This one is annoying. It takes a lot of hits to bring down, and it make fire rain on the field. The fireballs will come down on you from VERY far, never underestimate the range or you'll take it up the ass. It also hits very hard. The best way to deal damage to them is direct hit from a charged earth magic. Also, don't jump over them when they fire, it hurts.
Finally, we have those big demon things. Well, they are actually quite frail and they tend to die fairly fast. But they hit extremely hard, their attacks are just brutal. Basically they have 3 moves, one of them is a combo attack that they'll use after charging at you, they'll sometime use their second move right after, which consists of a dive attack that creates a nasty shockwave. The last one is those energy balls they can fire, generally 2 or 3. They hit really hard, and they really aren't worth killing, especially since there's no real safe way of doing it. Avoid them and move forward.
And that's it! Next up, the final bosses, and this isn'T going to be easy at all.
After that first phase, he'llclone himself to attack, again, it's very simple. His attacks hurt though, so don't get hit stupidly, you'll your HP.
The 3rd phase is still mostly a joke, he'll spam his attacks much faster and he'll clones all over the place. But again, same thing, it,s a joke.
It gets serious when he's at around 1500-1700 HP left. You'll see a bunch of robot things appear. Those things will home at you and then shoot a laser. If that's all you had to worry about, it wouldn't be that bad, but Dularn will keep using her attacks. It's really complicated to pay attention to everything what's happning. To avoid the laser, try to go perpendicularly to how you're being targetted. Try to avoid using your earth magic as much as possible, if you rely too much on it, you're fucked as soon as you're out of MP.
Anyway, overall it's not too hard, compared to what's coming.
First half of the fight is usually easy to keep under control, even if he doesn't have a set pattern. Basically he'll run around and shoot those beams with his swords. Never stop moving and try not to stay too close to him or he'll either try to slash you or jump back and throw that bird, both hurts.
Whenever you see a huge halo surrounding him just earth magic your way out of the explosion. He'll often follow that move by two beams + his thrusting attack
The thrust attack comes out WAY more quickly than in the first fight with him, so stay concentrated and jump over it. After that, attack him, but don't button mash or you'll get hit as soon as he gets his shield up. Also, notice that after he uses the thrust attack, he has an energy field around him, and hitting him will hurt and knock you back. So time your attacks properly.
The only other way to really attack him is to wisely use your dive attack, like I did. There are moments where it'll work and anything that makes this fight faster is welcome. Attacking normally in any other circumstances is a horrible idea.
This battle becomes messy halfway through. He keeps doing the same move, but he'll shoot three beams instead of one, and he'll constantly teleport around the field making making him even more unpredictable. Just try to stay away, try to use your earth magic only when really needed, and jump to avoid the rest. You really need to be careful, you can't go all out on that guy in any way.
Enemy rundown : First off we get some of those grey slime things. Equip your stone shoes, because the green goo is slippery. Besides that, they're pretty inoffensive, and anything will get rid of them.
Next up we get some big armored thing. They barely move, but they hit really hard and at a 180 angle. Jump behind them, stun them and whack away. They also give a lot of experience, and chances are you'll want to gain a level or two before the next boss fight, trust me on that one.
And finally, we got those crossbow wielding animals. They're completely worthless and a joke to kill. Nothing to worry about.
As for the area itself, it's really not that bad. You have to light up a few torches at one point, which isn't so obvious when you don't know what's going on. The platforming is made a lot easier thanks to the wind magic too, so take advantage of it.
The best way to damage this bastard is with your earth magic. You can only hit him from behind, and missed regular sword swipes will knock you back, which is annoying. So just charge up your earth magic, and unleash it wisely, he'll go down quickly.
Anyway, he'll always do the same things. He'll shoot a wave of missiles, they cannot hit you directly, just the explosion will damage you. This means simply a well timed jump will get you out of it.
The homing missiles are more annoying. He'll shoot three pairs of them, and they'll follow you until they explode. The explosion stick around for a few seconds, so be careful. A direct hit obviously also hurts, but this can be avoided fairly easily just by walking around and jumping.
He'll also shoot everywhere with his gun. He'll altern between short and long range with this attack too, so watch out. Earth magic is the best way to avoid it and deal damage at the same time against this attack.
Sometimes he'll also try to jump on you. Well, not quite, since what will deal damage is the shockwave. You can dodge it just by timing your jump properly, but Earth magic is way safer.
He'll also sometimes shoot you with a huge laser beam. Uh... I'd love to tell you that it can be dodged, but not really. Unless you somehow manage to predict it you might be able to get some earth magic to block it, but otherwise, you'll get fried. It doesn't hurt that much though.
Finally, he'll occasionally throw landmines behind him, they're nothing more than an annoyance.
Anyway, new enemies, and some annoying ones ; first, you get those giant plant things. They take a lot of punishment, but their attacks are easy enough to avoid. And they give a lot of experience, so in that area with the Battle Saber, you can grind quite quickly.
The next enemy is that stupid lobstrosity thing. It hits quite hard by making a double leap at you. They're easy to kill, you just have to be careful, as they can get to you from a very long range.
After that, we got the most annoying enemy possible, those stupid mini worm thing or whatever they are. They're like the cockroaches from the Lava Zone, but obviously stronger. They damage you just by running into you, it's better to try to avoid them altogether. Oh, and they also self destruct for massive damage. I don't think they do that on lower difficulties.
And finally, you get that giant flying bug. He deals damage with his powder, and by flying into you at high speed. They are actually quite hard to avoid, because they go really fast and it takes them forever to stop.
So yeah, first half he'll be doing the same three things over and over. First, he'll spit fire. You can easily jump over him and score a few hit from behind when he does that. Be careful, sometimes he can use this 3 or 4 times in a row, and it can get dangerous. Also, the hitbox for it is a bit flawed, is you stand directly in front of him, you won't take damage. But this is a bad idea, because his second attack is a simple bite. The problem is that it's unpredictable and he unleashes it very quickly, and again, he can spam the hell out of it. If you're cornered, he'll rip your face apart. His third attack is simply the dash, you can simply jump over it. It's also the best moment to counter with the charged earth magic.
When he has less than half his health left, shit hits the fan. He gains two new attacks, one that is really useless ; he'll howl and a bunch of baby wolves will rampage through the arena. Just hover over them, and after you'll be able to score a lot of hits against that jerk.
Now the other attack seems to be largely impossible to fucking dodge, correct me if I'm wrong. He'll turn into a ball of fire and bounce all over the fucking place. There's not one single goddamn safe spot, not even in a corner. He can do it for a prolonged period of time, so earth magic won't allow you to block everything either. The best thing to do is to use your boost mode as a defensive tool, use your earth magic appropriately, and pray to your fucking gods, whatever they are.
The basic soldiers now carry a spear. The positive thing is that they won'T block your attack with a shield, the negative side is that you still can't attack them from the front or you'll take severe damage. They'll also occasionally charge at you to knock you back. Those knive-throwing bitches are still there, the same thing.
The witches got upgraded too, they're twice as annoying, harder to kill, harder to hit, they teleport and their light ball will track you a lot more. It's best to avoid them altogether, as much as possible. We also got that laser throwing machine thing, it doesn't move, but it can be quite irritating when the area is already surrounded by enemies. Despite it being a machine, you can still stun it with a dive attack. Go figure.
The lizardmen also got the upgrade. They basically do the same thing, but faster and stronger. Quite annoying.
As for the area itself, it's far more aggravating than the other wing of the castle. Keep your stone shoes, the area with the ice is loaded with enemies, and throw in there rolling giant stones to piss you off. Trying to climb from the middle is a bad idea, even if the sides are full of those spear traps. The area with the battle shield is actually less annoying that it's counterpart with the battle armor, since they spare you the spear traps (no pun intended).
As for the final room, it's loaded with fake tiles. Enemies can stand on them, but if you do, the tiles will fall and you'll have to come back up. It's not fun, The Nightfire gem allows you to see what tiles are trapped, so make sure you have that handy little thing.
First thing to note, you got no break in that fight, he won't waste half his health doing nothing like a lot of bosses do. When the battle start, anything will hurt him, but very quickly he'll do something and start flashing green, meaning you can hurt him only with wind magic. He'll eventually switch to red, yellow and white. You can figure out the first two, and white means regular attacks only. Everytime he switches, 4 lines of spike will pop around him, so watch out.
As for his attack, he's got 4 of them. The one he'll use the most is the flame disks throwing. You can see that he'll be using that when he stops moving and charge a bit. Try to jump behind him and attack him with whatever is relevant at the time. It doesn't hurt a lot, but you can take a lot of hits from that move.
Second attack is pretty simple, he'll just close in towards you and slash twice or thrice. Not hard to avoid, just jump over him.
Third attack can be annoying. He'll levitate a bit and launch a bunch of light arrows at you. The easiest way to avoid it is to stay close to him, that way the arrows will fall on the ground. The problem is taht when he launches the arrows, he'll make a bunch of spears appear around him at a semi-random distance. So watch out. You can avoid the arrows if you stay very far away from him too.
The final attack is extremely irritating. It's very unpredictable. He'll just get somewhat close to you, and start rushing 5 or 6 times at you. If you have fire magic ready, switch quickly to wind or earth. The easiest way to dodge it really is to hover with the wind magic, but blocking it with Earth magic is also an option.
Here you go.
As for the enemies rundown, we've got quite a few annoyances here. First, the basic soldiers will block your attacks from the front, so jump and stun them, then hack away. In group, try to disperse them using charged up earth magic, that works wonder.
After that, we got those knive-throwing wenches. They're not too hard, but they'll try to run away when you close in on them. Wind magic or stunning them will tear them apart.
Now we got those lizardmen, and they're quite irritating. They'll dodge most of your attacks by jumping back, and will counter by jumping and diving on you. They deal quite a bit of damage too, so be wary. Cornering them or stunning them is the way to go. Wind magic works well too.
Finally, we got the witches. Their only attack is that ball of light, so that's not so bad. They jump back a lot to avoid your attacks, and will jump over you when cornered, so they're hard to kill. They don't like fireball at all though, a few in the face and they're dealt with.
As for the dungeon itself, well be careful with the spear traps, they can hurt. Falling down the pit is also quite dangerous, as you can see. Also make sure you're still wearing your stone shoes at the segment with the spiked iron balls. It makes things a lot simpler.
Next up ; a very, very aggravating boss.
That boss was actually kinda easy. Early on, he does almost nothing. Just use your earth bracelet and smash his knees to hack away at his head whenever he's knocked down. that's how you'll damage him throughout the battle.
When he gets lower on health, shit gets serious. He'll start making icicles fall, and he'll send wave of said icicles towards you. When he does that, you see him lifting one of his feet, that's when you strike. Earth magic, 2 or 3 times and he'll be knocked down. You need to time your hits well though, if you don't want to take damage. And he hits really hard. He'll also flap his wings to push you back and send some icicles flying towards you. Jump and use your Earth bracelet appropriately if you need. If you,re on the side, it's easy to dodge.
When he's near death, he'll fly up, make more icicle fall and try to grab you to drop you down the cave from what I imagine is the top of the mountain. Don't try to avoid his grab, it's actually riskier. The attack is easy to neutralize as well as you time your earth magic properly. When you fall, just stick to a side, concentrate and use that bracelet whenever a rock is coming.
I also left the following scenes because they're pretty neat. Deal with it!
Edit : I screwed up again. The end of the scene is cut.
Dogi gets stabbed.
Overall, this is a very annoying area. I can't wait for Valestein castle. The coming boss is also pissing me off, but he shouldn't be too hard. I think.
So about those new enemies, first those spinning things can hurt you a lot. To kill them you have to dive attack in their face, otherwise they're immune to everything and you'll take severe contact damage. The only other noteworthy enemy in this vid are those ice golem. They're extremely hard to kill without the Earth magic, so just skip them until you get the bracelet.
First thing, as soon as the battle start, GET OUT OF THE WAY. They don't mess around and if you'Re slow you'll get it right as it begins. Anyway, the blue one will tend to stay away from you, occasionalyl throwing feathers like the others, or using its special attack, which is more feather throwing. It's easy to evade, just keep your eyes open. It's immune to both your wind and fire magic, the way to go against that sucker is good old regular attacks.
The green one will generally charge at you and spins at you, just like you can do with your wind magic. It's vulnerable to your wind magic.
and the red one will also stay farther away. Its special attack is a diving attack, which is also fairly easy to attack.
OBviously you're fighting all 3 at the same time, so it can get tricky. But keep moving and with enough concentration it's not too hard. Watch out because some times they'll all shoot feathers twice in a row at the same time. It can be hard to dodge depending on how they're positioned.
After a while they all fly and come down for a singing attack, which is stupidly easy to avoid, but this is where you need to plan what you'Re doing. The easiest to kill is the blue one, but you'll also want that one to survive the longest. The hardest to kill is the red one, because of how innacurrate fireballs are, but you'll also want that one dead fast. So my strategy was simply to first keep damaging the red one, deal damage to the blue one during the singing attack, without killing it.
Once the red is down, switch to wind magic and deal with our green friend. If you think the blue bitch can take more punishment before killing the green, go ahead. When they're only two, they'll sometimes do a series of dive bombs, which are very easy to avoid and which gives you a free attack once they stop. They'll also use their singing attacks at the same time or not, and when they're weaker they'll throw two waves of notes at the same time.
When one is left alone, it keeps its previous attacks, but gain a new nasty one. The red will throw three fireballs at you, at VERY high speed, they're extremely hard to avoid and deal almost 80 damage. That's why you don't want her dead. The green one will just have an improved whirlwind, but when it keeps spamming, dodging it becomes pretty hard. While with the blue here, she just throws more feathers and it's not very hard to avoid. At that point, boost mode when appropriate, and blast away.
Anyway, I hate this place and I hate all those enemies.
But first, I know I missed a few things in there, but I wanted to get that vid out of the way for the next boss fight. There's a chest with Raval very early in there you can get by jumping down, it's not too hard to find. And near the very end, you can reach a pot with plenty of gold in it by going through a hidden passage in the cliff. You can barely see it.
Anyway, new enemies here. Those pig orc things are pretty strong and can take quite a bit of punishment. They have a double attack, can jump, and WILL follow you around if you don't get rid of them. Second, those underground worm things. Avoid them, jump over them, they're not worth killing and it's hard not to get it. If you insist on killing them, try to make them jump, step back and whirlwind the shit out of them. Those bees can hit hard, but they're weak to either fire or wind, so they die fast. The blade throwing plants aren't worth noting, there's only a handful of them and they're easy to avoid. Then you've got those weird animals with a helmet. They're weak, but their dash attack hits hard.
Nothing much more to say. The real deal is next vid, with a nice boss battle that I like a lot.
I have to admit I kinda like this boss battle, there's plenty of action. It also got MUCH harder than in easier difficulty level.
First half of the battle is pretty straightforward. He'll come out of the ground and do two things. If he stands there and do nothing, he'll wait for you to come close and then try to smash you. This is usually easy to dodge, but as you can see, the shockwave tends to stick around longer than it should. If he doesn't do that, he'll spit some crystals. The crystals can become extremely dangerous if you let them be. If there are 3 or 4 they'll start reflecting the laser beams all over the place. You can see it a bit at the end of the battle against the worm, but it can get almost impossible to dodge if there are 5 or 6 crystals out there. The easiest way to beat him is to use wind magic in front of him to try and destroy the crystals as soon as he spit them. Try to avoid getting behind him, or he'll use a spinning attack that's really hard to dodge.
Once he's done, stay clear of the remaining crystals, since they explode and deal damage.
The second part gets pretty fun since he has a fair amount of attacks. Sometimes he'll just move through the stage leaving eggs behind him. Those eggs explode and deal around 60 damage. You can also attack him from behind if you're crazy, but it's really not worth it since you can't deal a lot of damage that way. He'll also shot 4, 6 or 8 sparks that will explode and spread, those are easy to dodge, most of the time, but they hurt a lot, over 60 damage again. Then he'll start spamming his beams things all over the place, but there's a pattern and it's not too hard to deal with. Finally, he'll sometimes create some weird shield around himself and charge at you. The hit window of that attack is pretty small, so you shouldn't be hit by it. It deals over 120 damage though, so that's more than half your HP.
Where it gets really hard is when he starts chaining his attacks very quickly and for a long time without giving you a chance to attack. Stay concentrated, try not to overuse your wind magic, since if you run out of MP and you need it, you'll get hurt.
When he opens up, close in quickly to avoid the pink beams, and try to time your jump and the wind magic so you can avoid the explosions from the eggs that he spawned.
First off, you'll want to obtain that new accessory to at least repel some of the darkness. To get it you need Bob's pendant, which can be found in an already explored part of the Quarry. You couldn't access it without the Wind bracelet. Once you got it, showing it to a NPC in Redmont will net you the Nightfire gem. It's not mandatory, but you'll want it for this dungeon, and it's also useful in another one later on.
As for the dungeon now, it starts off pretty easy. The slime enemies are annoying, but weak. They don't like fire at all, but spamming wind magic might work better, most of the time. Those lizard dog things are pretty lame as well with their high defense, but they're still easy. Their stronger counterpart deeper in the dungeon are really annoying though. They have a very long range and they hit fairly hard. It's better not to try and avoid them since they tend to follow you around. Watch out for the plant enemies, they also can deal a fair share of damage, but they're easily stunlocked. You'll also come across some weird lightning throwing medusas. A bit of wind magic in the air takes care of those bastards.
The really annoying enemies here are those freaking ogres creatures with their hammers. They hit hard, have a long range and are hard to kill. Kill them if you've got room to move around, otherwise don't hesitate to run away, like I did in the last part of the dungeon.
Also, as you can see, the text of the mural is not translated. I know that someone created an additional patch to adress this issue, but the author has since then removed the patch from where it was uploaded and I don't know any other sources. But I'll admit I didn't look very hard. Anyway, here's an accurate translation of what it says, made by fatedsoul on the Ancient Land of Ys boards :

All credits to fatedsoul, again, for this. So that settles it for today's vid. Hopefully I'll be able to upload more regularly now, since I'm done with the area I hate the most in the entire game.
Fun fact, in the first large room you go in, you can actually avoid getting the double jump by cleverly using the wind magic. I don't think you can finish the whole dungeon, since you might get stuck in the last part though.
First, when you see where he's going to appear from, get away, let him close in and use the wind bracelet to stay up. Usually he'll just circle around you, letting you hit him with the bracelet again. Sometimes though he'll do a weird move and go farther away before coming back to ram into you, which hurts a lot. The time he stays on fire is random, sometimes it's barely a few seconds while other times he'll do 5 or 6 turns around you like an idiot.
Once he's extinguished, he'll do three attacks and then dive back in the lava. Those three attacks are randomly picked between the fireball, while he's in the air, and the breath, when he goes closer to the ground. When he's down is the best time to attack him. Downward thrust really hurts him early on since he's bigger, but it gets harder to hit him the more the battle progresses, and it gets safer to just use the wind bracelet.
When there's only the head left, his pattern will still be the same, the only difference is that he'll leave a very dangeous fire trail behind him when circling around you. It hurts a lot, so watch it.
He goes down without much trouble, usually.
Now, we also get those cockroaches things. In the room were those enemies are, I missed a chest, down from where I broke that vase. I didn't get it because there are A LOT of those cockroaches and while recording it made my game unplayable due to lag. Chest contrains 18 raval, nothing amazing but eh, still worth getting. Don't miss the Firedragon Amulet either, you need it to walk in the lava. Deep lava will still hurt and kill you though. You also find a new and shiny broad sword, so equip that too.
Finally, you see another new enemy, some sort of armored beast. It's easy to kill, but be carefull when it jumps, the rolling attack hurts. Finally, you might have noticed a chest I didn't get near the end of the video, that's because you need the Wind Spirit Bracelet that I just obtained to reach it. It contains an Emerald, which acts just like a Ruby, but for that new bracelet. I'll be using it extensively later on, so no worries, you'll see what it does.
The two next videos will be bosses. This means there's a small part of the dungeon I won't be showing, but there's nothing that important in there anyway.
THe battle was a close call, I could've done better, but eh. Always keep in mind that when in boost mode, you take less damage, so use it. It saved my butt there.
New dungeon means new enemies. First, the owl things are worthless, I wouldn't bother with them. The wolf things are annoying too, especially when there are more than one. But when it comes to annoyingness, those flying dragon head things are the worst. Their attack consists of just flying into you, and they can it multiple times easily that way. The magicians aren't that bad and give a lot of experience.
Later on you'll see those crab things. To kill them you have to do the downward thrust, stun them and hack away. But what makes this dungeon really annoying is not that they introduce new enemies, it's that they introduce new enemies, and then a few minutes later you run into more powerful version of those already new enemies. The hell is that! That explains why I stopped killing stuff later on.
The quarry isn't very long now.
You can get that chest by using the little trick I mentionned in the previous video to use against Dularn. Swinging your sword allows you to get to that chest, you need to swing it three times, the last swing slows you down, but keeps you up a bit longer. A few more ravals that I'm not going to use.
Don't miss the ruby there either, to get it you have to light up the torch on the wall. It's not obvious, but you'll see a few more of those later on in the game. The ruby allows you to charge the bracelet, and to actually make it somewhat useful.
Now the boss itself, Elefalle the Azure Queen of Death. What a goddamn bitch. Dularn didn't get a difficulty boost on Nightmare, really. He had more HP, but that's all. Elefalle is definitely harder, she ain't kidding this time around. The first half is pretty easy, but I still screwed up my timing early on, so I really didn'T expect to succeed on this attempt. Make sure to not jump too early, because the horizontal discs follow you. Try jumping after it appears on the screen. It's better to charge up your bracelet than to spam weak fireballs too.
The tornadoes are when things get serious. They're really annoying to avoid, especially when she spams them and throws discs in a completely random manner. The other attack usually isn't hard to avoid, but it tend to hurts. With some effort and more tries I would have been able to do it without being hit, probably.
You can also clearly see a cut before I go run into Dularn, that's because I planned on making two videos, then I realized it took me less than 4 minutes to mess around the quarry, so yeah.
I also gained a few levels, one outside and a few more inside the dungeon before making the video, it helps a lot because you can barely damage those goblin things at level 1 or 2. And the additional HP definitely helps.
Dularn isn't particularly hard, but he can hit hard. Swinging your sword while in the air will give you allow you to stay up there for a few split seconds more, so it helps avoiding the four sword attack. I still got it once because I delayed a jump a bit too much, but eh, can't do everything perfectly. When you're halfway through the fight things really start to heat up, so be careful. The shockwave and fireball attacks really hurt, but they're easy to avoid.
How I'll be making my videos is pretty simple. I won't show story scenes, unless they're short and in dungeons. I'll probably grind offscreen a lot, and I'll just record runs through dungeons, picking up all the items. Most bosses will have individual videos dedicated to them, since I expect all boss battles to be really damn intense.
Like I said in the description of the first part, two things can happen when your time is up, either you're at the Vega node and jump out of the system, or you die in the supernova. I think surviving is boring, after all you've been through. Plus, the ending where you survive, you don't even get mentionned at all, while in the one I decided to go with you're seen as a hero. Anyway, if you want to survive, head towards the node in advance, I was at about 6-7 clicks from it, no chance to get there when you get the warning.
Anyway, what's next after this, I don'T know. Maybe I'll record playthroughs of some mods, or maybe I'll jump on an entirely different project.
There's like a 5 second part of the ending I forgot to remove, that's because I didn't want to record them from within the game, since as you can see they run like crap in this resolution. I grabbed the files from somewhere else and added them, it looks better. Don't pay attention to those few seconds.
Anyway, all you technically have to do in this mission is to survive for about 12 minutes and thirty seconds, after that mission's over, no matter what. You have orders to defend the convoys that are trying to evacuate, but it's almost impossible to save everything and everyone, especially the third one. Constants waves of Nahemas, Nephilims and Seraphims jump in and they're hard to take out, you have only one chance to rearm safely, and you have to deal with whatever you had left in the previous mission. Your wingmates as well as the other wings will end up being decimated about halfway through this, they just can't take it.
You have two choices to finish the mission, they will lead to a slightly different ending. The first choice is to die like a hero, trying to save as many people as you can, the other one is to run away like a pansy towards the Vega node. I thought the heroic death was more... fitting for a game like this, so I went with that one.
If you just want the "good" ending, just head towards the node and stay there for 12 minutes. Mission over. Game over. The second part of the mission will also include the ending, as short as it is.
Anyway, the first part here isn't too hard. You'll be very very busy all along though, since there are bombers incoming constantly. All the Aeolus cruisers are already badly damaged, and so is the Bastion, so be very careful. The Bastion also has no beam turret operational just to spite you. ALWAYS check on it, the Cruisers will most likely be hit and destroyed at one point or another anyway. It won't take more than one or two Shivan megabomb for them to be wiped off the galactic map. Speaking of the Megabombs, your wingmates won't always target them first, so do it yourself.
The default weapon setup includes the Infyrno, but I personally don't like it very much, since the missile travels way too slowly, and the AI tends to use it very dangerously. I got killed by a wingmate quite a few times. Shooting 8 tornados is a safer alternative, and it still is pretty efficient. The Trebuchets are useful, but not against the Nephilims, don't bother. It can severely damage a Seraphim or a Nahema though, so don't hesitate to use them. Rearming in this mission won't be easy, so use whatever you decide to be equipped with wisely.
You'll also have to deal with Dragons near the end of the mission, this is pretty much the only moment you might be targetted, so get your shields up.
Once the Bastion jumps, the mission ends automatically, you don't even need to jump by yourself!
Also, the star has even more Sathanas around it now!
I don't think I would've been able to edit that one to make it fit, unlike Dunkerque. There's almost always something going on, and cutting the end would suck.
I also was messing around with the cameras to see the fight from another angle. Since there was nothing else to do, eh.
Start up by destroying all three freighters, not much of a big deal, the Mephisto can be annoying but the Erinyes can take it on easily. Once that's done, there's not much else to say, just take down everything that jumps in. Keep your Trebuchets for the cruisers, blowing up a beam turret from long range helps a lot.
You get support from 2 Vasudan and a Terran cruisers, and they do a decent job at helping out. One of them seem to always end up blowing up before the end of the mission though, but that's no big deal.
At this point you should be used to the Cain cruisers, so deal with 'em. The Lilith is slightly more annoying, but in the end it's just a slightly bigger Cain cruiser. Get behind it, blow the Beam turret and trash it. You have all the time in the world to deal with the cruisers since there aren't that many fighters.
The mission pretty much ends after the Rakshasa, and again that thing's not a big deal. It'll go for one of the alliance cruiser, but most of your wingmates should still be alive, making short work of that giant piece of junk. Once you've taken care of it, nothing else jumps in, and you can watch the Colossus from a distance, while a Mara wing close in to you from 15 000 KMs.
Also, notice how the amount of Sathanas around the star increases mission after mission. Yeah, I love that, it's so ominous.
I also just noticed the extremely low sound, I have no idea what happened.
I just noticed the additional 20 seconds of nothingness, don't ask, I don't know why it'S there.
This mission isn't hard at all compared to the other ones. I almost didn't even get shot at all, the Nahemas never target you. Still be careful with both Lambdas shuttles, they can die if you don't pay attention. Other than that, just blow the crap out of everything, targetting bombers first. THe only thing is that the enemies will jump in from very far, so yeah, be quick.
Random trivia, the name of the mission refers to a battle in the city of Dunkerque in France during the second world war. The German Blitzkrieg was pushing back British and French troops towards the north. What made this battle famous is that the British managed to use their Air Force well enough to be able to cover their retreat and save a lot of their troops, this possibly preventing an eventual German invasion on the Great Britain territory.
You'll also notice a load of blimps on your radar on which you can't get a lock on, well those things are all the Sathanas that you see surrounding the star of the system. At this point, you know bad stuff's going to happen m i rite?
So first thing, check your weapon loadout. Get rid of the Tempest you're given by default and load up with those nifty Trebuchets. Stick with Kaysers as primary weapons.
As for the mission itself, first thing, you can call Theta wing in reinforcement, and I'd suggest to do it without hesitating. They'll save your butt.
Now, first thing that happens, you'll see a Vasudan cruiser, the Nebtuu, fighting off a Moloch cruiser, the Abraxis. The result of that battle is somewhat random, sometimes the Abraxis will go down in flames almost instantly, while other times the Nebtuu will die first. You don'T want the Abraxis to survive, that bastard will spam missiles at you and you'll die quickly. If it wins the battle, chances are you might be able to finish it, so do so. Otherwise, well restart. Also, you cannot keep the Nebtuu alive for all the mission, it's pretty much impossible. He's always a priority target for the bombers, so you'll miss a few torpedoes at one point and it'll go down. Keeping it alive as long as you can helps though.
As for the mission itself now, first, 3 Nahemas are escorting the Abraxis, Trebuchet the crap out of one and blow up the other two. Make sure you intercept the warheads first, the ones the Shivan use int hat mission have a very long range, so turn this into an advantage and destroy them quickly.
For the first half of the mission, you'll see wave after wave after wave of bombers. Don'T hesitate to use your Trebuchets to deal with some of them from far away. Avoid other fighters as much as possible, your wingmates should deal with them, but if you're in danger don't hesitate to turn around and blow up one or two.
Eventually you'll see some Seraphims jumping in. Those things are pretty damn dangerous, even heavier than the Taurvis, and they're wel equipped. If a whole wing gang up on you, chances are you'll die. Sucks eh?
Also, the Gibborim jumps in fairly early, but don't worry about him too soon. At one point the bombers will stop swarming in. The Gibborim should be between 3 and 4 clicks away, so at that point you can order all fighter to raid it. It's just a Cain cruiser, so it can't take a lot of punishment before blowing up. Once that's done, there's not much to do but wait. Some Maras and a few Nahemas will pop up, but nothing threatening.
Mission complete!
As for the mission itself, first thing first, DIVE. I love how it begins, if you don't move quickly you take some pretty abd damage, since the moment you jump in, a Sathanas is jumping out. The objectives are pretty straightforward, you'll see some strange unidentified objects far away. Go to them, aim for the central crystal, missile the shit out of it and the whole thing explodes. You can try to avoid most enemy fighters until you start being in real danger, they really don't seem to be too agressive.
It's really no complicated. This mission basically sets the premise for the rest of the game. Being in Shivan space itself is pretty amazing, those planets look great and mysterious, the third Knossos portal is really interesting, and seeing a whole fleet of Sathanas in the same system is an interesting thing for sure.
Also, in the second part, near the end, as you cans ee I ran across a little problem. I had firefox running in the background, and ForecastFox decided to update me on the weather, and it caused some weird graphical glitches. Nothing that impacted the gameplay, and I didn't feel like wasting 15 mores minutes to redo the mission, so deal with it. Some models look a bit strange, nothing else.
For those following those vids, I don't know if I'll be able to finish the game by next Wednesday (April 29th), and if I don't well I won't post more for 3 weeks. So yeah, stay tuned.
I love this mission, it's definitely unique. First, you get some new toys to play with. You finally get a chance to fly the Erinyes heavy fighter, and that thing kicks ass. You also have access to the Kayser primary weapon, and I heavily suggest you equip two of those things, even if they take a lot of energy, they're pretty damn efficient, as you can see.
You're also equipped by default with a bunch of those good old dumbfire missiles. Keep them, you won,t be able to get any aspect lock in that mission.
Onto the mission itself now. You have to follow the buoys in the Nebula, but the EMP makes it really hard to target them. You have to use your radar and look for grey blimps and reach them. You'll make encounters along the way, but there's absolutely nothing threatening. When you reach the Graal, it's not too hard, but the Nahemas can really hurt, again. Destroy the first wave, then call Lambda 1. Mission done.
I also forgot to note that this mission is optional, and that you fly a Terran ship, so at that point you're done with the Vasudans.
Mission starts without much problem, the Maras won't even turn against you, since they concentrate on the Aquitaine. When you take them down, get to the Abaddon quickly and destroy its main beam turret, that'll make sure the Aquitaine won't take too much damage. Once you've done that, NORMALLY, the Aquitaine should be fairly safe.
Anyway, you get 8 more enemies to deal with right after, and that's where problems appear. The Astaroths are a joke, as usual, but those Nahemas will kill you. Then kill you again. Then feast over your dead carcass.
If you're alone against a whole wing and they start targetting you, GET THE HELL AWAY. You have limited countermeasures, and their missiles will annihilate you in one or two hits. Same goes when dealing with the Taurvis to a lesser extent. The best way to deal with Taurvis and Nahemas is to set your secondary weapon to dual shot. You use a lot of missiles, but if they all hit a Nahemas it goes down instantly, it doesn't work that well against Taurvis though. That's why I told you to get more Tornados, the Harpoons aren't that useful.
Anyway, you alos get to deal with some Nephilims and Basilisks at one point, not very threatening.
The Argo and the Agrippa never are really threatened either, unless the Nephilims jumps out right next to them (it's semi-random apparently), but it happened to me only once.
Also, this mission never gives you a real break except where I stopped. But you still should try and rearm as often as possible. Another thing to note, the way the mission works is that once all the pre-prepared waves of enemies are done, they'll just keep sending more and more Nahemas. So there's no real hurry to kill all enemies, since more will always come.
Also, once two fighters of your wing are down (because Command thought one wing was enough to defend a ship of the size of the Aquitaine) they'll send Delta to help out. They're better than your wingmates too, so yeah don't worry about teammates getting killed.
Again, be careful with the Cain cruiser, that thing can wreck you.
And yes, the Rakshasha's designation is "Sephiroth", and no it's not a FFVII reference. Sephiroth is an Hebrew word that carries a meaning in the jewish Cabbala. All ships are designated with names from a bunch of mythologies, so this is not surprising.
Anyway, for the rest of the mission, not much to note. You've got a wing of Dragons to deal with, so be careful. When the Psamtik jumps in, don't worry about the 6 Astaroths after it, they're not a threat. And considering what happens right after... it really doesn't matter. Also, try not to get disintegrated by the beams at the end, it hurts.
The default weaponry in this mission is just a bunch of Hornet missiles, but you're bound to need to rearm at least once, so better switch to deadlier Tornados.
Anyway, early on the first wave of Maras isn't dangerous, but the Cain cruiser can really kick your ass. Its missiles are extremely dangerous, and even with shields at full power, they'll plow through them. The beam turret is hard to destroy. The best way to deal with this is to fight off the Maras, and then order all the ships to destroy the cruiser. It won't las long.
Whenever bomber appears, kill them. The Nephilims can be hard to shoot down, so don't hesitate to missile spam. Be wary of the Astaroths, since they tend to shoot a lot of missiles. Once the Cain and the first Astaroth wave are down, order everyone to deal with the Rakshasa, it's more resistant than the Cain, but it still goes down quickly.
Watch out for the Nahemas, they use a zone supression anti fighter missile sometimes, and it can result in a very brutal death, so whenever you hear the sound that a ship is locking on you, well do something.
After the Nahemas wave, everything go well, the Qeb never is really threatened, even if you lost a lot of wingmates.
I somehow got credited for the kill against the juggernaut
Anyway, this mission is fun. Your objectives are, first, to destroy at least 2 of the 4 main beam turrets on the Sathanas. As you can see, you can blow up all 4 and the Flak cannon with relative ease. Just call the support ship as soon as the mission begins, but don't let him refill you until you're out of Helios. Normally, a double shot of Helios should take care of one turret, but sometimes they won't be direct hits. If it's at 10-15%, finish it with Trebuchets, otherwise, well try another helios, or just spam all your Trebuchets.
Also, when Command tells you to get out of the way before the Sathanas jumps, well DO IT. If you get stuck in front, chances are you'll be rammed and killed. No fun.
Second part is dealing with the Demon.Normally you should still have some wingmates left and they can help. Don't hesitate to call in Epsilon wing since they're just waiting for your call. The turrets aren't hard to destroy, just make sure not to waste some Helios by shooting them while the turret is shooting at the Thebes. IF everything goes well, the Thebes or another wing will take care of the Beleth's engine and at that point you can just finish it off slowly.
I'm not sure whether you absolutely have to destroy the Beleth or not though, but whatever, it's not hard. When it's done, just Trebuchet the crap out of any fighters left, those missiles one hit kills them.
I edited out 30 seconds of nothing at one point, because it went over the time limit. This mission is annoying with that because you wait a while for nothing when Lambda is setting up the bomb.
You have to deal with Dragons here as well, the most annoying Shivan fighters ever. Not much more to say.
