2021 Quickie Q200 Flight from KPIE Q2 FlyMeAirplane 2021-05-11 | Today Monday May 10th we'll fly the Q200 up to Crystal River to test the high altitude climb rate. We're thinking of flying out to Denver and the ground there is 6000 feet high. Got to 6,500', baro 30.05, OAT 64F, 15%RH. Slowed to take off speed and then went to full power and when the climb was steady at 100Knots (115 mph) the plane was going up at 850 FPM. Climbed to 7500'. Calculating the density altitude gave me 8800'. This is excellent performance. Had 10 Gal of fuel, 20 lb of baggage, 1 person aboard.

2022 4K Q200 Avare demo Takeoff and Landing FlyMeAirplane 2022-02-01 | Q200 Takeoff and Landing. Added a screenshot of my Avare App moving map display to the video. Interesting to see all the air traffic. I notice the GPS displayed Altitude is quite poor and the rate of climb is kind of bonkers on the Avare screen (GPS driven). I typically climb out at 1500 fpm and 100Knots. On landing the sync between the Moving map and video is not great. At 56 Knots I'd be on the ground. The Avare App automatically switches to the Airport Chart when it sees the speed below stall speed. This was shot Jan 30 2022 with an OAT of 57F. I went to 5500' where it was about 40F. I had all the fresh air vents closed and was still pretty cold in the cockpit. My very old engine monitor LCD display freaked out from the cold. It came back to life back on the ground, so I need to work on that. That system has seen way colder in the past!

It shows the wide variety of coral reef and how shallow it is. This was an off the beach snorkel. This was the first snorkel for Yuly, (see 9 min in) now she thinks everywhere is like this! 2021 Q200 Over Controlled FlyMeAirplane 2021-08-09 | This video syncs the cockpit voice recorder with the Flight Aware map. The controller puts me on base for RWY4, then a 5 mile base, then straight to the numbers, then SE, then follow a Cherokee that's going 40 knots less than me! Then the guy in the Cessna that's #3 to land says he has the Tie Fighter in sight! LOL. Rarely is it like this! You don't hear the engine in this video cause my mic is darn good! The clicking is my transponder.

This video is a slide show of the various Gulf of Mexico beaches shot at 1000 feet up and 150 mph. Lots of the dark areas are not Red Tide, they are lack of sun due to hitting clouds first. Look for the irregular shades of dark water near the beach.

In June the water vis drops to a few feet so while this video is maybe 10' vis it does show the only place that is decently snorkel-able in the Tampa Bay area. It was a bit of a rough day with waves so excuse the non-stable video. And what is that idiot doing fishing with a dive flag up. Too bad no marine patrol showed up today!

2020 Last Landing FlyMeAirplane 2020-12-28 | My last landing of 2020. Flight down the beach, past Clearwater FL and into KPIE. The tower told me to go straight for runway 4. No long straight in stuff for me. I figured out why. An Airbus had just taken off on 36 and another one was on final and the tower wanted me to cross RWY 36 right away. Note, the camera was set to the left 45 degrees.

The camera vibrates inside the Underwater Housing and sounds terrible. Will try and fix that! Saw a few Dolphins but they didn't stay around.

The coral has really improved in the past few years and water visibility was probably 60 feet. Awesome weather.
2020 Facet vs BraveX fuel pump FlyMeAirplane 2020-06-20 | This video is only for people wanting to know what's inside these fuel pumps. Why is there such a price difference between the Facet and BraveX pumps? As reported earlier my 20 year old Facet Fuel pump failed last week. These things now go for $70 (auto parts store) but the BraveX (knockoff?) sells for $20. I've got one flight in with the BraveX and seems to be nice. It's virtually the same form fit and function as the Facet but it runs quieter.I made a video so you can hear the difference in the two pumps when dry. They are both pretty quiet when they have fuel to pump. The video also shows the 20 year old Facet pump insides. I'm always curious what's inside stuff so I took it apart. The Facet previously did nothing but on the bench when I jumped the protection diode the darn thing started working and won't quit.Funny that now Facet advertises the pump as new "Solid State Fuel Pump" but it looks like 20 years ago it was also solid state! Marketing...We'll see how long the BraveX runs!

Dynon EFIS Stratux Avare PFD FlyMeAirplane 2019-09-16 | Here is an in-flight demo of the Dynon EFIS ($2200) compared to the $15 AHRS and $10 GPS used with a Stratux ADS-B receiver. Wow, huge price difference but can we find a performance difference? As of today 9-16-2019 I'm using the latest Stratux load (stratux-v1.5b2-8f4a52d739.img) and Version 8.1.1 Avare. On Avare I have selected use internal GPS only. Avare is a free Android App that is an awesome flight planner and moving map. I've turned on the PFD feature that takes the data streaming over WiFi from the Stratux ADS-B box and presents an Attitude display. I'm not sure why the GPS speed does not appear on the Avare PFD. Will see if anyone else has that issue. The Roll is selected to be reversed in the Avare settings. Realize the Dynon is displaying true altitude and the Avare a GPS reported altitude. GPS is generally pretty poor +-200 foot of your true altitude. I'm using a Samsung S4 phone for the Stratux display and a 10.5" Samsung Tablet for the Avare App display. Without touching any setting I was able to make another flight. This thing is actually working!

2019 Stratux in Flight and Avare Moving Map for Android FlyMeAirplane 2019-06-14 | This video shows the Stratux functions while in flight! I have seen a bunch of Stratux videos but all are on the ground. We're going 140 to 160K in this video in the Tampa Bay Florida area. Look at all the traffic displayed but wait, I'm filtering to only show airplanes within 3000' of my altitude so there are lots more airplanes flying around! Then while I'm at it I demo some of the Avare App functions and how they work with Stratux. This airplane is ADS-B in and Out equipped.

2019 Avare Demo a 47 minute flight with the AVARE APP FlyMeAirplane 2019-05-23 | Don't watch this unless you are curious about how AVARE with ADS-B works! Don't give me a thumbs down, i warned ya! If your thinking of using the Android APP called AVARE you might want to take a look. AVARE is not jumpy like this video shows. The capture program seems to take a picture once a second so it's the way I captured the video. Oh, the Tablet is mounted vertically thus the reason for the vertical video. I hate it when people make vertical video but this was a screen capture from Android.

I have ADS-B in (Stratux) and out (Stratus ESG). I use a Samsung S4 for a traffic only display and a 10.5" Samsung tablet for moving map, traffic, and weather display. You can only panel mount these in an experimental aircraft. They are not TSO approved. Using Android devices in your experimental is by far the least expensive and most capable way to improve your instrument panel! Remember to give this video a Thumbs Up and Subscribe!

2018 Stratux AHRS. With AHRS and GPS I flight test the Stratux, 1080p FlyMeAirplane 2018-08-17 | Using the Stratux AHRS app we do some maneuvers and compare the Stratux to the Dynon EFIS. The $25 addition to my Stratux ADS-B in system was really interesting. Come fly with me and see how well it works. Note: If you lose GPS lock the Stratux data is garbage! My Samsung S4 that was running Stratux did not like having Avare also running. This caused it to lose GPS lock even when there were 10 GPS satellites being tracked. If you need to use the Stratux AHRS then close all your background apps. Update 5-23-2019. I believe I was using Stratus-v1.4r5 for this video because after updating to Stratux-v1.5b1 the AHRS no longer works well!

2018 June Flight in rather wet conditions Quickie Q200 Q2 Q-200 Q-2 FlyMeAirplane 2018-06-30 | There was a nice full sky double rainbow but it is barely visible in the video. 3 Cameras were used, one forward outside, one looking to the cockpit outside, one inside. The inside one was recording the intercom audio. Dashware software was used to put the speed and altitude tapes on the videos. Dashware seems to only work with Win7 SP1 with no updates. So i built a junk computer just to allow me to use Dashware. So sad that GoPro bought Dashware and then stopped supporting it. The original canard used on the Q2 and Q1 lost lift when wet. The LS1 airfoil that is used in the Q200 doesn't really care if it's wet. I get wet 3 times in this video!
2018 Q200 Heavy FlyMeAirplane 2018-06-14 | This was my takeoff and landing at 1136 lb gross weight. It really extended my takeoff and landing distances! Had a 275lb passenger. Still was climbing 600 fpm on a 85F 85% humidity day which isn't shabby.
