As the weather changes, we can take that opportunity for a time of reflection and gratitude. Spiritual and emotional shifts may take place during this time, and having grace, compassion & patience with ourselves is crucial. Personally, I can be very affected by time change, weather, lack of sunlight etc., so finding a seasonal routine is very important. I’m not as outwardly ambitious during cold months, but I am captivated by the fall and winter, and a unique version of my creativity comes alive. It’s very important to stay in tune with the seasonal shifts and focus on appropriate self care. Spring comes, and we can awaken slowly and bring out the new, but fall teaches us that it’s ok to let go, shed the old, and spend more time inward. Here are some things to keep close during the fall and winter transition:1. Routines - Rest & recover. Quality food, exercise, deep breathing, stretching. This will add value to everything you do. 2. Being present - making coffee, walking the dogs, time spent with family, self care, staging beautiful spaces, prayer & meditation, educational podcasts.3. Creating a seasonal vision board - recipes, visuals, goals & ideas.4. Warming your body In the morning - Light movement, pilates, stretching, walking.5. Fall bucket list/planning outdoor adventures - hikes, fishing, carnivals, fairs, farmers markets, thrift stores. 6. Warm & cozy- Fall teas, coffees, warm stews, soups & hearty recipes 7. Creativity - journaling, crafts, knitting, sketching, practicing music, cooking, sewing, quilting, winter photography & capturing nature.8. Hibernation period- Prepared, aware, & present. Not letting seasonal depression/ hormonal cycles take us off guard. Journaling and being completely tuned into thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the body. Listening to music, or a good podcast. This may feel a bit uncomfortable because we are so used to being busy. It almost feels wrong to slow down. It can feel a bit lazy. We can mimic the seasons and find that balance within our own lives. 9. We don’t need rush, or compare. There is no one exactly like you, or anyone with your exact story. A New Beginning Rachel Talbott 2022-09-18 | 💜 PLEASE READ -- I know I haven't been on YouTube for a bit, and I wanted to come in and give a brief update about our recent move. As many of you can hopefully understand, there are many factors that go into making such a big move, and this decision was not made lightly, or with haste. We understood what a huge decision it was to uproot our family and our life, and it was incredibly hard to make this choice.. especially at this time. There were lots of questions, tears, and prayers, but we kept feeling like this was where we were being guided. I decided not to film and share content during this transition because I felt it was so important to create the space to process this move and stay present with my family during every choice along the way. We have been feeling like CA might not be our forever home for a while now, and after a challenging few years in both the economy and our personal life and business, we decided this was a new beginning that was very necessary for our family. We stayed in CA for as long as we could, and now it's time for a new chapter.. A few things I want to address:We did this move via PODS, and very much DIY. We drove our two cars and animals across the country over a period of 5 days. We minimized a lot of possessions in the process of this whole move, and fit everything into one large pod. Overall our experience with them was very easy, but you do pack and unpack everything yourself, and they transport it for you. We considered taking the farm animals, and looked into several different options to see how it might work. We looked into how we could possibly move and board the animals while we built infrastructure for them out this way. We decided after much consideration that the family who bought our home would keep our current flock of chickens and steward them + the eggs provided for their family. They are also continuing to garden and tend to the trees and everything we planted. Their heart is to continue to grow food for their family and others in Southern California. I felt at peace passing that home to them, as I believe they understood our heart for that home & land, and with hard work the land will bless them as it did us.The goats were re-homed to a loving family. I had some struggles with the goats that I never discussed here on my channel, and in the future I will share more info on my personal thoughts on if we will ever own goats again. They are beautiful creatures, but may not be the right fit for us on our next property. We'll have to see.. As for chickens, we definitely would love to have more down the line. We have to build another chicken coop (hopefully a better one), and prepare for our next flock. I have so many reasons that I believe chickens are a great addition to any property (especially here in Tennessee), and will share more of that down the line as well. There's a saying that says "blessed are those who plant a tree though they may never sit under the shade".. We really find great peace and enjoyment in spending time gardening and growing food. It's a way that we connect to the earth, and a shared passion as a couple. There's a true joy spending time with nature, and together as a family. I'm both intrigued and inspired by this new location, both its possibilities and challenges. We are excited for the seasons, and all the rainy days, and green trees. Did I mention that I'm absolutely in love with Tennessee, and it's gorgeous landscape!? I'm so happy every time I drive through our beautiful town. Everyone is so lovely here, and we're so thankful for the warm welcome! For the future of our business and work lives, we see a lot of potential to grow here. We are 25 min outside of Nashville in a small town. There are several work opportunities out here for both of us, both now and for the long term. There are beautiful people, churches, and community events to plug into. As a couple we have been working towards different financial goals, and not relying on debt. It's no secret that California home prices are very high. We felt it was prudent for us to sell at this time, and take part of the equity (avoid a high interest rate loan, or having to refi down the line etc) and just consolidate and pay off a home. This gives us freedom to invest what we earn in a different way going forward. Ultimately we feel it's the best move for our foreseeable future, but life has many lessons to teach us. Many things have changed that I would have never expected. I remain grateful and inspired by the beauty I see all around me. Cheers to the next chapter... Creating Vignettes- A vignette (in terms of interior design) is a tiny, curated style statement, made up of a group of objects that are displayed on a shelf, a table, or elsewhere in the home. Sometimes I will use my oil right away (if I'm being impatient), but make sure to add more oil to cover the herbs completely, cover the jar, and then let the jar sit in front of a sunny window for several weeks. The dried herbs should be submerged below the oil, and keep an eye to make sure mold doesn't form. After the oil has infused in the mason jar for a few weeks, strain, and add to a dark glass bottle. Choosing Simple (Finding Joy In Less & Closet Cleansing) Rachel Talbott 2022-03-05 | I'm sharing about my closet cleansing journey NOT to project my decisions on to anyone else, but just to share my personal journey. Although I still get caught up in consumption, I'm trying to find more joy in what I contribute/create vs what I consume. I started viewing things in my home as unnecessary if they weren't being used and loved in everyday life. I started in my closet first, and I do feel so much "lighter" and free. I will be cleansing different spaces over the next few weeks. I love a good cleansing.. It's healing for me. I like Poshmark for selling certain pieces. The downside is that they take 20%, but the upside is that you really don't need a following to post. All posts can be seen in the search engine when people are looking for certain brands or items. It's nice to earn a little $$ back from when I shopped more. I usually invest that money so it can accrue interest, and I feel less guilty about how much I spent lol. I donate a lot of clothing pieces that I think might be most needed at a local woman's shelter (jackets, lightly used shirts, tanks, jeans and pants, blankets, lightly used kitchen items, unused makeup/hygiene items, lightly used toys and clothes for kids etc). I cleanse my closet and create different piles for donating vs selling. My niece also likes to search through my closet and sometimes steals things haha On many days, I'm chillin in leggings with my family and our animals. I'm thankful for all the experiences that led me to the person I am today. I'm just trying to choose simple, stay present.. Making Challah, Dinner + Cleaning The Garden Rachel Talbott 2021-09-06 | Hey everyone! For today's video we're cleaning up the garden + cooking up a lovely supper for the whole fam. I hope you enjoy! I’ve recently rediscovered my love for baking. 👩🍳 Fun fact: I met my husband @byrontalbott when I was in high school, and decided to take culinary classes at the local college. I was in baking 102 when we met. ☺️Recipe- 3 1/4 cup unbleached, all-purpose flour 2 1/2 tsp dry active yeast1 1/4 tsp kosher salt3/4 cup room temperature water1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil1/4 cup honey2 whole eggs + 2 egg yolk To a mixer with a hook attachment, add the dry ingredients: AP flour & kosher salt. In a separate container, add honey to the room temperature water. Stir well. Add the yeast and cover for 15-20 minutes. This gives the yeast time to feed off the honey and activate.Slowly add liquid until fully combined. Add olive oil and eggs to mixer and turn the mixer on medium to high. The dough should pull away from the bowl, feel sticky, and climb up the hook as it’s mixing. Remove the dough (it should feel fairly sticky).. on a floured surface, gently roll doll into a ball and place in an oiled bowl. Cover and let rise till it’s doubled in size. About 1 hour.After it’s doubled in size, divide dough into three. Roll each piece and begin braiding. Cover and let rise for another hour. It should double in size. Once it’s doubled in size, take one egg yolk + teaspoon water, mix, and brush onto the top of the braided dough. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and cook until golden brown. 🙏🏻 Tip: depending on where you live (humidity etc) you can always adjust the liquid so that your dough looks sticky and not dry. 👍🏻For the braised chicken. I made enough for 6 people, so gauge ingredients accordingly. In a large pan, add olive oil and get the pan very hot. Add chicken and brown both sides till golden and crispy (it won't be fully cooked at this point internally.) Add salt + pepper. I added approx 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, sliced white onion, and let all of that cook together and caramelize (about 5-8 minutes). Add pomegranate vinegar, hefty splash of red wine, 1-2 tablespoons of honey + water to cover the chicken. Use a pan that can be transferred to the oven, and let the chicken braise in the oven or on the stove for 1-2 hours. The chicken should pull off the bone easily.
