Johan Jaehyong Heo, a co-founder of the non-profit organization Root Impact in 2012, identifies and supports changemakers who innovate solutions for social and environmental issues, cultivating an ecosystem for their sustainable growth. Root Impact drives initiatives for “Equitable Future Education,” “Sustainable Cities,” and “Workplace Diversity and Inclusion,” including programs like “Reboot Camp” to assist women who have experienced career interrupts due to childbirth and childcare, and the communal workplace daycare center “Forest for All.” In 2022, he was recognized for his contributions to building South Korea’s social innovation ecosystem, selected as an Obama Asia Pacific Leader and receiving the Presidential Citation at the 4th Korea Social Economy Fair. Prior to founding Root Impact, he graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Business Administration and worked as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company.

Jean Mackenzie is a foreign correspondent and documentary maker for the BBC. She is currently based in Seoul, covering the Korean Peninsula, where she has reported on gender equality issues in South Korea and exposed human rights violations in North Korea. Jean has reported from across Europe, where she sought out under-reported countries and stories, and has spent time in the Middle East.
Prior to her work abroad, she reported on UK current affairs, pursuing her passion for reporting on women’s rights. Jean’s investigative journalism has led to laws being changed. Part-Scottish, Part-Londoner, Jean was born in Scandinavia and grew up in the UK.

In 1980s, she engaged in various women’s empowerment movement organizations such as the Youth League within the Korean League of Women Voters, the Korean Women’s Hot-line, and The Women’s News. In 1989, she serves as an aide to the late National Assembly member Park Young-sook in the 13th National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, assisting in legislative activities such as family law revision and childcare law. In 1994, after participating in the ‘East Asian Women’s Forum,’ she returned to the women’s movement field and was appointed as the standing vice president of Korea Women’s Hot-Line. Alongside this, she was appointed as the Secretary-General of the ‘Korean Women’s NGO Committee’ formed for the preparation of the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. Since her appointment as the Coordination Officer of the Special Committee on Women, overseeing private organizations, international cooperations, and the Women’s Development Fund during President Kim Dae-jung administration in 1998, she has been involved in the formulation of women’s policies throughout Kim Dae-jung's tenure, serving as the Policy Coordination Officer, Director of the Discrimination Improvement Division at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and Women’s Policy Secretary at the Presidential Secretariat.

Tamara Mawhinney, Ambassador of Canada to the Republic of Korea
Ambassador Tamara Mawhinney joined Global Affairs Canada in 1993. She began her career as a Cabinet Liaison Officer and then as a Lawyer within the International Trade Law Division. Assignments overseas included the Mission of Canada to the UN in New York (1995 to 1998), the Embassy of Canada to France, Paris (2001 to 2006 and 2013 to 2014), and the Mission of Canada to the European Union in Brussels where she served as Political section head from 2007 to 2012. After 2 years as Advisor to Mme Michaëlle Jean, Secretary-General of La Francophonie in Paris, she returned to Ottawa in 2016 to lead the UN Security Council campaign team. Ambassador Tamara joined Canada`s Mission to the UN in Geneva in the summer of 2018 as Deputy Permanent Representative. Ambassador Mawhinney has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in History and Literature from Trinity College, University of Toronto (1987) and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Toronto (1991). She also has a Certificate of Political Studies (Certificat d'Études Politiques) in European politics and Law from Paris Institute of Political Studies (Institut d'Études Politiques, France, 1998) and a Diploma in French and EU Public Administration, Management and Law from École Nationale d'Administration (France, 2000).

Eminent academic, distinguished scientist and Advisor, Professor Eun Mee Kim was appointed as National Goodwill Ambassador for the Republic of Korea in January 2024. Professor Kim is the 17th President of Ewha Womans University and has been a trailblazer in the field of international development studies, dedicating her research efforts to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. She is Professor in the Graduate School of International Studies, Director of the Ewha Global Health Institute for Girls and Women and former Dean of the Graduate School at Ewha Womans University. She was appointed by the UN Secretary General in December 2016 to serve as one of the fifteen Independent Group of Scientists to work on the Global Sustainable Development Report 2019, which was presented to the UN Secretary General and heads of member states at the UN General Assembly in September 2019. She served as President of the Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (2011, 2012). She has served on the Committee for International Development Cooperation under the Prime Minister’s Office, the Policy Advisory Committee for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. She received a research grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on her research for three times in 2013, 2016, and 2019. She received the Chang-Lin Tien Distinguished Leadership Award from the Asia Foundation in 2021. She was appointed as the Vice-Chairperson of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO in May 2021, and the Chairperson of the 5th Science and Technology Basic Plan (2023-2027) Committee of the Republic of Korea in December 2021. She received the Building Bridges Award from the Pacific Century Institute in the US on February 16, 2023 on behalf of Ewha Womans Universitt for strengthening ties between countries and peoples across the Pacific.

Md Shamsud Douza is the Deputy Secretary of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Office in Cox’s Bazar. The RRRC is Bangladesh’s government agency providing relief to Rohingya refugees. As of 2023, the 33 camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf, two sub-districts of Cox’s Bazar, sheltered almost a million Rohingya people UN Women spoke to Mr. Douza to learn more about the RRRC’s strategies to prevent and eliminate violence against Rohingya women and girls.

Lieutenant General Ingrid Gjerde | Chief of Staff of the Norwegian Defense & Former Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus
Lieutenant General Ingrid Gjerde of Norway was the Force Commander for the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) from 2021 to 2023. In addition to UN peacekeeping missions, Major General Gjerde has a distinguished career in the Norwegian Defence Force. She was recently appointed Chief of the Norwegian Defence Staff. Before this appointment, Major General Gjerde was the Chief of Public Affairs for the Norwegian Defence from 2018 to 2019, as well as Chief of Staff and second in command of the Norwegian army from 2016 to 2018. She headed the Army Military Academy (2013-2016) and led her country’s contingent deployed to Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012. Among other postings, she commanded the Norwegian King’ 's Battalion from 2006 to 2009 and was deployed within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) commanding a Norwegian platoon (1994-1995). Major General Gjerde is a graduate of the Norwegian Military Academyม and the US Army Command and Staff College and the US Army War College. She holds a master’s degree (Cand. Polit.) from Oslo University

Our Collective Action (the Storytelling Initiative) is a project implemented by UN Women Nepal with financial support from the Government of Finland that aims to promote social norm change on gender issues. UN Women India, in collaboration with Gender at Work India, is striving to advance gender equality and empower young leaders in the complex socio-political landscape of India. The Feminist Youth Leadership Programme (FYLP), led by Gender at Work India and supported by UN Women India, aims to promote feminist leadership among the youth in India through research, discussions, and engagement. In its first phase, the programme has engaged 27 young leaders from 20 states and union territories of India working towards social change through collectives, NGOs, and governments. The cohort members share a common interest in issues related to leadership, representation, and the feminist movement.

The Women’s Market in camp-5 was established in 2021. The women's market is a safe and inclusive platform tailored for women's and children's unique needs. It features 24 shops, including a cloth shop, tailoring services, handicrafts, stationary, beauty parlour, grocery store, woman's canteen, display corner, and cosmetics store. The market also hosts fairs on key days, with several external women shopkeepers participating.
Day by day, the Women's Market strives to enhance its impact and support the economic empowerment of women in the Rohingya camps.

Diana joined the gender-perspective entrepreneurship and digital training from the Together Digital programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection. The training also invited male partners or family members of the women entrepreneurs.

In December, a summit took place in Manila which brought together representatives from the uniformed services to celebrate this milestone and showcase women’s salient contributions to peacekeeping and security since 1993. Among the delegates at the 30th Anniversary Fellowship of Women in the Uniformed Services in the Philippines were some of the trailblazing women who were among the first to join the country's security and law enforcement institutions.
The event was jointly staged by the Philippine Commission on Women and UN Women, supported by the Philippine National Police's Women and Children Protection Center. It was an activity contributing to the impact of the UN Women Regional Framework Towards Peaceful, Inclusive Societies in the Asia-Pacific region.
UN Women’s technical assistance for peace and security initiatives in the Philippines is possible with the generous support of the governments of Australia, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, and Global Affairs Canada.

코리 브래독 대령은 미 해안경비대에서 19년, 육군에서 8년 근무를 포함 총 27년간 미군에서 복무하였으며, 현재는 미 해안경비대 원정군수처장으로 근무 중에 있습니다. 이전에는 스탠퍼드대의 후버연구소에서 국가안보연구원으로서 해양 회색지대 활동과 정부 예산 개혁을 전문적으로 연구했고, 이외에도 미국과 한국에서 주요 지휘관 직책을 수행하였습니다. 브래독 대령은 미국 육군사관학교를 졸업했으며, 아메리칸 퍼블릭대와 하버드 케네디스쿨에서 석사 학위를 수여 받았습니다.
